Re: Player Housing

Oh, do we ever know you guys want housing. As it turns out, so do we! It won't be in at launch, but we will be implementing it at a later date - and no, I can't say when that is yet, unfortunately. Right now we're just focusing on getting a polished, solid core game out the door.

JIPPY! A big hooray to all! I can't wait till they add the housing systeem. For now, I'm countdown till the launch. (Only 60 minutes to go!)

LOTRO keeps sounding better and better as time progresses.

Sven...I think when the ring busted through your sig, some of the WoW sign was disintegrated

While housing will be a great thing I wonder if it will be real housing or instanced houses ,

Just what I expected, just the kind of answer we would get from a great company. Turbine haters, seriously, they have reformed.

    Currently Playing: Everything but MMORPGs
Cancelled: L2, FFXI, VSoH, LotRO, WAR, WoW
    Looking Forward To: SW:TOR

Good question. I should hope with the focus on roleplaying and lore that it would be real housing ala DAOC or something

As much as I would prefer non-instanced housing, I don't think the world is large enough to support it.  I would certainly hate to see a bunch of player houses cluttering up the landscape as is the case in SWG.

A DAOC type solution might work, but would still constitute a serious 'lore cookie' to have to swallow.

I would suggest using the 'multitude' of doors that go nowhere as the 'instanced' player housing, such as in EQ2.  Later on when new content or commercial expansions add  the areas between the Shire and Rohan allow for a form of 'sandbox' type play there including possibly, player built villages and so on.

When the tyrant has disposed of foreign enemies by conquest or treaty, and there is nothing to fear from them, then he is always stirring up some war or other in order that the people may require a leader.

it be nice to see an instanced zone that was like the world. you could run around and explore it but this zone would be dedicated to player housing.  you could build in it in many locations....other players could run around this zone and see everyone elses house...enter them possibly etc.....

i think the great thing about swg was it had real houses...not instanced ones like eq2. i think people loved them for that reason. but i think it would be hard to find even a few people that would tell you they didn't mind the urban sprawl swg had. it was out of hand near the end and ruined alot of the game world. it would be nice to see housing contained in a sense but not to the extreme of owning an instanced door.

I hope they go the instanced housing areas with SWG style large/medium/small houses with gardens that can be landscaped an lots of different furnishings. Pretty much what the poster above said LOL

    I miss DAoC

Man, I wish Vanguard took that approach .

Anyway, I hope the housing won't be instanced, but since everyone and their mother is instanced in LoTR:O, I doubt it. Still, yay for housing!

There is an entire, large area around the Fair Grounds in North Bree-land that has no mobs and a lot of open space. I guess they could allow individual house lots like SWG in areas like that with out cluttering the rest of the game.

Just a thought , wouldn't count on it though. :)

I like this idea....I loved SWG housing but the size of SWG ( 7 planets for housing) was incredible compared to middle earth as it is now.  I do realise the world is a work in progress, but even with the addition of the unfinished map areas it will be what,  one maybe two planets on SWG?  Player housing crammed into middle earth would ruin it.  I see no other option except for some sort of instanced housing.
