WORLDS BEST GAME in your opinion?

DuraheLLDuraheLL Member Posts: 2,951
PLEASE READ THIS:

Before you decide which game you think is the best game ever made in history, I want you to do the following:

Think very hard, the first games that pops up in your mind might be false. They might be the games you have had the MOST FUN WITH in your life but that is NOT what I want you to do, I want you to say the BEST game that perhaps was ever made in history.

Best balance, most fitting graphics (notice I didn't say BEST graphics I said the graphics that fit the theme/mood of the game better, let's say Fallout 2 for example, the game's graphics might not be GOOD but I can honestly not find any other graphics that would FIT the  game better).

Simply put,

THINK THIS ONE THROUGH CLOSELY!!!

My answer is:

STARCRAFT (RTS game - PC - Released 1998)

Link: http://pc.ign.com/objects/002/002159.html

Comment: Oh my, oh my... this is THE GAME to me. RTS in all the pride but StarCraft is something special. Might I say the most balanced game ever? The graphics and style is overwhelming and I never find the art old. It's dark and gritty, the music gives me the creeps, not to mention the terran songs I keep singing to myself and I am yet amazed they managed to get each and every race so different... it's like 3 different games playing each race. The game is still enjoyable today and it's still the golden obvious game for every LAN party I have. Then again, the game is "the national sport in Korea" :)

Runner up:

PERFECT DARK (FPS game - Nintendo 64 - Released 2000)

Link: http://ign64.ign.com/objects/003/003906.html

Comment: Some might think Goldeneye 64, but Perfect Dark is basicly the same thing but 10, or even 20 times better! Built on the same engine, this game offered endless multiplayer functions for everyone to like. I also have to admit it's the only FPS game I've been able to play on a console. The controls are just incredibly for a console, and even more so, the N64 controler! If you haven't played this game, or goldeneye, you have simply missed alot. This game probably also offered the most enjoyable gaming sessions to date for me and everybody I knew back in the days.

    Starcraft and its expansion

Never before has any RTS been so perfectly balanced.  The game is fun to play a decade later, and every game is different...while the graphics have become dated, they were good for the time, and fit the game nicely.  The story is also the best of any RTS game ever made in my opinion.  Above all else though, it's the lasting appeal that makes Starcraft so great...the fact that the Battle.net servers still have people on them at all is a testament to this, but there aren't just a few people, there are still dozens if not hundreds of games being hosted at any given time.  Starcraft was as perfect as I believe the RTS genre will ever come to perfection.

    Runner Up: Metal Gear Solid

Metal Gear Solid brought the stealth game to the consoles and has been the biggest influence behind other games like Splinter Cell.  But, as with Starcraft, no other stealth game really does it the same as Metal Gear Solid.  The graphics for its time were AMAZING, the voice acting was superb and the story was one of the best I have ever seen in any game.  The boss fights were also something else, challenging, but not frustrating...it was also nice and long, but not so long that you got so bored that you never bothered to beat it.  Truly a revolution in gaming.

Your argument is like a two legged dog with an eating disorder...weak and unbalanced.

A very old game this but my favourate amy be Realms Of The haunting.

It was one of those Movie games with a strong occult/medievil theme set in modern times.

I never experienced any lag while playing Perfect Dark. Not even when I played 4 players.

The original Doom (maybe doom 2). It was one of the first games i've ever played, and it was the first game that i was completely terrified of. So much i only played it when my mom or brother was sitting right next to me.

It's the best in my opinion because it along with wolfenstein 3d, sparked a genre, and i dont believe i'll ever experience the insanity of playing Doom in any other game.

RTS-wise i would say Warcraft 2: Tides Of Darkness (no expansion). I remember getting that for christmas when i was 7....

Hmm... I think that after observation... Halo and Half Life.

The graphics are consider good, and i think the game play is nice although i didnt manage to play it for long, it still has a good impression on my mind.

    Total Annihilation.

Had accomplished so much when it was released nearly 10 years ago, that so few RTS's today have even been able to replicate.

Imo, was the greatest RTS of all time. Sheer genius.

Thats probably because your four players were all clientside, there was no online play, hence no lag.

Best game? Damn. I don't know. I could pull an SWG Pre-CU, but I don't think that was the best game, just the best MMORPG.

Well, lets go with Morrowind. Morrowind is the best damn sandbox game, period. No other single player game has ever held my attention for so long. It was just the perfect RPG. Good stories, good combat/action, good graphics (For the time), etc.

Runner-Up..... Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Because nobody has mentioned it yet, and it deserves a mention. It is a very fine game.

A thing came to my mind tho. Methane probably didn't have the extra add-on to N64 which were supposed to make the graphics better or just make it run better. The one you placed in front of where you put the cartridges. Could that be the reason maby?

I'm gonna do three, because well... the top two are tied.

Tied for numero uno: Knights of the Old Republic. I'm not really a big RPG type guy, but something about this game just made me play it over and over. I played it something like 14 times straight through and did every quest available over and over. That doesnt even count the times I went back and played it like a year later. The story was excellent and the characters were great. It lacked lots of things, but the things it lacked were typically things that didnt infringe on the quality of gameplay (for instance, the game coulda used more character models... it had a very small amount). It really did a great job of immersing you into the atmosphere of the game.

Tied for numero uno: Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. First off, I loved the old Zelda games and had played them since I was a kid. However I was never very good at 2D games, so when Zelda made the leap to 3D... I was in heaven. The game had excellent characters, alot of goofy things that just made you laugh, great puzzles, a good combat system, good boss fights, and (even now... several years after its release) it had alot of quests and things. I would love to see the Ocarina and Twilight Princess have a beautiful baby together.

And for 2nd place (just because I feel like ranting even more): Command and Conquer: Red Alert. This was really the first video game I really played besides Wolfenstein 3D and Doom. I really was addicted to it for many years. I think I played it from 4th grade until 8th grade. I'm not a big RTS fan (never played SC... blasphemy I know), but I love the C&C games. Red Alert in particular was just alot of fun. Red Alert 2 was just as good, but I just didnt get so into it as other things came along.

Honorable mentions: Goldeneye, Twilight Princess, Mario Kart 64, Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem (excellent game that no one seems to know about... if you have a gamecube and like HP Lovecraft type stuff this game is definitely recommended!).

My vote goes for Super Mario Bros for the NES. Also, according to the Guinness Book of World Records, this is the world's best sold game.

In my opinion, all consoles after the 6th generation have no value. They are just re-makes, nothing more. But that's one man's opinion

hehe. nothing can quite match the ol' days when Playstation was newly come and SNES had shown it's full capacity. Oboy that console is the best IMO so far, ever.

My favorites games of all time?

Favorite Single Player Game: Final Fantasy Tactics (over 300 hours logged).

Favorite Multiplayer Game: Diablo II. I spent years playing that... longer than any MMORPG I've ever subscribed to. It might have been because it was my transition from online MUDs to an actual game.

Then your definition of a best game, which is already entirely subjective, differs greatly from my understanding of a "best game".

If the quality of a game is it's ability to maximize customer satisfaction and best is the greatest degree of quality, then a best game must be a game that maximizes customer satisfaction more than any other game.

Since people have conflicting preferences, there does not exist a "best game", so that it would only make sense to give a relative preference, which is what I gave you. Those games were best for me, since I had the most fun playing them.... as for other people... I could look up the profits made from each game and base my response on greatest profit earned (with inflation), but then that would have defeated the entire purpose of the thread, since there would only be one answer.
