I can't believe the views in this game. It boggles the mind more people are not playing this ........forget LotRs Its really hard to capture the "living" feel of the world in screenshots.

This looked increadible on my 20in widescreen.....

same planet view, different part of the world (starter island)

Some sort of throne out in the woods on the starter island

This one is amazing. These are CSR people just hanging out (the ones on the mounts).........get this............helping players. Yeah way. They are there everyday just doing what you would expect....helping players out and giving advice.

Anyway...........post some shots.

There were many things I liked about ryzom. Problem is, that for a while when it first came out, I was disconnected all the time. Something to do with my router. However, since it was not my router i could't just go out and replace it. Seems silly since all other games worked fine with it.

After which I tried it again with the new "newbie" zone.

    That was fun.

However, I never could get into the camera "switching to behind your head" when you started a fight. I really hated that.

Also, I couldn't really figure out the point of the game. In L2 you have sieges (well, "I" have sieges... that is the part I find the most fun) in LOTRO there is the story and I really enjoy the instanced quests.

I know there are outposts in Ryzom but I just don't feel the need to take them.

I love the world though and the animals and such.

Yeah that sudden "jerk" to directly behind you is pretty bad, I agree. Nice to see you again sovrath.

Well...there is no real "point" to Ryzom....its a sandbox / freeform game.

They do have something very similar to sieges though, the outpost. It works almost the same as L2 sieges. You take them for the resouces that are on the territory. Again similar to L2. I think they horked alot of PvP aspects from L2.

    Well that's good to know.

Maybe I'll start playing a little again. It's just a little hard because I would like to have a life AND also play a little L2 and LOTRO. Too many online games is a little hard on "time"

ahhhh........you are actually gonna try a third MMO? Insane bro. My trial ended for EVE and I stuck with Ryzom. The only way I can juggle 2 is one week on one week off alternating. (I have a wife and 3 kids)

Don't misunderstand about Ryzom...its not going to be anything like L2 PvP wise. The outpost thing is nothing on the scale of a siege. You play Ryzom for completely different reasons. Its very "touchy, feely" nice in there, which is very cool after dealing with those knot-heads in games like WoW and GW.  There is no shortage of people challenging you to duels in Ryzom but they are easy to beat so far.  Also there aren't really "politics" like we are use to. Its politics "lite". But it is all about community and they are a great bunch. On a barles scale I would say this game goes like this. Socialize first, explorer second, Achievment third and killer last. (where L2 would probably go something like: achiever first, killer second, socializer third, and explorer doesn't really factor in lol)

I have LotR also (as you know) but for the life of me I can't take the community. Its all Chuck Norris and moron talk. What a shame. That taught me a few leasons 1) avoid large successful titles 2) I'm sick of fantasy anyway. 3) **edit** lol, I'll PM you the third....

TSoR is one of my favorite games graphical when speaking in terms of graphics.

I think it makes a good use of "Big enviroment" concept. everything is so big, big trees, that big thing in the sky, it makes you feel overwhelmed and in a way, small. I really like that, its the same feeling I get when walking in Ashenvale in WoW.

God, you know this Ryzom board is dead when us three are driving the supporting conversation lol...........Nice to hear from ya GL

Yeah, you should see it on my monitor it is absolutely beautiful...I would love to re-sub to L2 just to see that game in widescreen.

Nice shots there Torak. Definitely a fantastic looking game. Very laid back, yet complex. I remember CSR's in the starter area. They were very friendly and helped with any questions I had to include a graphical glitch when I first started up.  I wish I could remember the guys name but we went over fixes for about 45 minutes until it was resolved. Those Ryzom CSR's were in the starter area everytime I logged in.

Very, very rare to see CSR's do that in any other MMO. I can't think of one other.

"If we don't attack them, they will attack us first. So we'd better retaliate before they have a chance to strike"

Here's just a few I found on my HD.

    The jungle after heavy rainfall.

The canopy seen from the desert on a 'rainy' day. Notice the wind kicking up the sand and dust.

Thesos, again on a 'rainy' day.

    Thesos, seen across the oasis.

A pretty old screen (old gfx card and no widescreen monitor) of the architecture inside  a Zoraï building.

I'll see if I can find me a few more over the comming days.

I agree, after playing a brand new MMO (Vg) for a few weeks, i can't help to say how absolutely stunning and ingenious Ryzoms graphics and landscapes are. Even more so considering the age of the game.

With its beautifully elaborate game mechanics (no 5-inch mobs dropping armor pieces etc), its realistic wildlife behaviour, its weather and seasons with actual impact on gameplay, you might be lost for any other MMO out there :) including some of the hyped bigshots currently enteing the market. You have been warned! :)

Now this place looks cool, what Ryzom needs is some sort of "entertainer" line to put some life into the cities. You could basically add more skills trees without affecting gameplay to much. Right now there is basically (starting out) fighting, crafting, harvesting and magic. You could add another line very easily like "social" or something. Its a shame to see places like this unused...

I agree a social line of skills could add more flair, it was even talked on way way back. Homins being able to cut hair of other players, apply tatoos, create music to be played in bars ...

The only thing I fear however would be an entertainer or social skill line getting pushed into the buff/debuff line of more traditional MMORPGs instead of more of an 'RP' skill line.

Thats were SWG made a wrong turn in most of that old profession system. It turned allot things that were RP and fun in a grind chore by assigning xp to it. The way Turbine handles it is much better although allot more limited. You can play music, all you do is train the skill and buy the instrument, you create your own tunes. They did that wayyy back in 2003 with AC2 and now LotR.

I twould probably work best as a very detailed entertainer emote system and an actual music system like Turbine makes.

wow...I've always though Ryzom had an amazing art direction/graphics for its age and budget...but WOW!

Great shots. Unfortunately I just couldn't get into the game. Maybe some day.

    New things in test

We've just added into the "now in test" section of the site some new things being tested in house at the moment. On the menu today we have:

    Outposts: unilateral ban

    and following post from Marjo:

    Camera recentering

    by Marjo — Creation Date : Tuesday,09 January , 2007

Spell casters and range fighters will be happy! We will remove the automatic recentering of the camera and make it optional. You should still be able to recenter it on your character by using the "delete" ("del") key of the numpad.
