Best thing is to do some research on the BPOs. find out how much it would cost to buy the minerals to make something and what is the average price they are selling for. IF there is something that you can make money on buy it and sell it. One suggestion is to look for stuff that is not common to t he local area. So look to make and sell lasers in a non-amarr space.

Dunno how much experience you have (probably more than me, but then, most grandmas knows more of this game than me :P) but I get decent cash by doing missions in my caracal and then flying in with my cormorant with tractorbeams and salvagers afterwards. I actually enjoy killing in pve, although I dont know if ratting just means hunting pirates or if it includes killing missionNPCs as well. I`m not RICH, but I make a few mills pr hour. Helps in the long run since I`m just laying the groundworks for my skills anyway :)

You can try a couple of BPOs that make things that need to be replaced often (cap chargers are a good source to begin with, preferably 400s and 800s).

I make my money in different ways depending on mood:

PvP: go out to 0.0 and kill of a guy most likely hes t2 fitted and sell his stuff.

PvP 2: jump an industrial in low sec (t2 indies are hard to hit in 0.0 but those will usually have a fortune inside) and hope hes got something good.

PvE: low sec and 0.0 ratting makes goos isk per hour and you may get lucky with an officer spawn, though you do have to be careful for pirates.

Missions, once you get the hang of those you can make a steady income at a good pace. Lv4s are great isk makers.

Mining: high sec mining makes you some good isk but low sec and 0.0 is where the real isk is, ofc youll need some escorts to go down there....or simply fit and exeq and ninja mine in low sec....try to maintain aligned to a gate in case someone gets the jump on you.

Manufacturing: check the markets for details of what people are buying and get those BPOs. I started my manufacturing alt by buying 4 cruiser BPOs (rupture, stabber, thorax, vexor) il be getting the caldari ones soon.

Perhaps the best suggestion i can give is to join a mining corp and that way ull have more help in PvE areas if your not rady to make isk PvPing. I must admit at 1st itl seem like it PvPing simply loses you money but once you get the hang of it it pays off nicely.

If you want to build, check the local market for what is selling well, get a few of the BPOs and start small, working your way up to having more capital to acquire more BPOs.  You can make good money selling t1 ships and gear, but it is a volume business ... you need to sell a lot to make money, because the margins on many items are thin.  It's a good idea to start by selling things that have a good demand in your area (check the "price history" screen, which also tells you not only the prices, but the volume selling over a good stretch of history --- this should give you some ideas of what might sell well in your area).

Manufacturing to make money takes start-up capital and time (selecting products to make, acquiring BPOs, amassing minerals, producing what you want to produce, pricing it for sale, etc.).  Once you get going, however, the time to maintain the operation is not so great, and you can have a steady stream of "remote control" income at your disposal.

Salvage from the wrecks that abound in the area and build rigs.
