Who plans on returning wiht the Anniversary pack?

homeskillethomeskillet Member Posts: 119
With the EQ Anniversary pack that contains all 13 expansions set to be released on the 23rd of this month, who plans on making a comeback?

The last expansion I played was PoP, well over two years ago. I've been thinking about getting into EQ2 with the EoF expansion for $30 but may want to return to the original just for the nostalgia rush. LOTRO and Vanguard weren't my cup of tea.

So who else plans on returning? My main problem is probably the fact that the lowbie zones will be completely empty as I plan to start from fresh.

I often find myself dabbling with thoughts of returning to EQ.   It's not that I'm unhappy with WoW and EVE - both satisfy me well enough - it's just that I 'grew up' on EQ and I have lots of fun memories that I foolishly hope to be able to replicate at some point.

Things that might provoke me into playing again:

    1) New server of some kind.  I like being part of a new community.  Joining an old one makes me feel like an outsider.

    2) New character models.  Long overdue.

    3) Gameplay changes.  MMOs have evolved, EQ has been slow to adapt (it never used to be the case), and having things like rest experience isn't necessarily a bad thing.  I have the exp boost veteran award but that doesn't help newer players.

    4) New class.  It might upset the balance of things but part of the fun of EQ was learning the tricks of the game.  After playing for so long no class feels new to me now.  Except for the Berserker which doesn't appeal to me.

Realistically, it would have to be a combination of at least 2 of those things for me to be serious about returning.

Still waiting for your Holy Grail MMORPG? Interesting...

agree with above, and new UI.
Also, why don't EQ actually try different ruleset servers, in fact, why do all mmorpgs settle with the status quo and don't try anything different.

I was thinking about returning to EQ. The only expansion I don't have is The Buried Sea, but part of me was sort of thinking about buying the new pack and starting a brand new account (probably still on Xegony, though) and bootstrapping my way up. I can't decide if that would be fun or just frustrating.

It probably wouldn't be as frustrating as being a level 73 SK with <100 AAs though.

I'm coming back.  I already started a new Pally in Qeynos and am loving it again.  I'm really practicing for the new progression/classic server that I am sure will be released this summer.  You'll see .

Well there was actually talks of a new server being released with the Anniversary pack but I believe as of right now, it's just speculation.

i stopped playing eq right as OoW was released, and i cannot for the love of god find a game that fits my playstyle the way eq did, i would also start from scratch and am also worried about low lvl population...

there would have to be... a new server which others could not transfer to, new character models, and i would have to see sony put some sort of effort into pulling in new people...

  • homeskillethomeskillet Member Posts: 119
I'm still wondering myself if I should buy the game myself. The biggest thing that SOE can do to pull me back in is to make a brand spankin' new progression server.

    Exactly.

I would also suggest a fixed-release for each expansion and try to keep it Pre-PoP as long as possible.  However, that is my personal opinion on the matter.

Would only come back for a classic server, thats it.  Although I miss it.

Same only thing that would bring me back is Classic, the only problem with that is classic only supports one top guild really. Thanks to non-instanced nagy,vox,pof/poh.

So it would need endgame instancing for guilds.

Next comes the question of is it just "pure" classic or.....what about kunark and velious? I think you include kunark but velious added to many items that trivialized old content so its out.

Soo Kunark + classic + instances so your team doesnt get c0ck-blocked by some guild named "Realm of Incestial Manluv" when they poach nagy and trak every time they spawn.

    Great point.

I completely agree.  I would definitely return if they had this; I have not done the old-dragons in ... years and would love to.

I am glad you brought that up.

I agree in terms of Classic + Kunark for at least 3 months.  However, I really enjoy Velious and Luclin as well; I would like to see a server that is PRE-PoP for as long as possible.

I re-opened my Account and played for a bit and its still fun, hard to group though.

When the Anniversary set comes out Im buying it. its $20 bucks    Cant say that about past expansions.  remember buying them 20 - 30 bucks a pop?  this will give me 5 extra expansions to my account.

Good idea, though to be honest, I'm not a big fan of the name.

People usually say the reason it's hard to play EQ now is because it's hard to find groups to level up since the population is so low now. That's really NOT the only problem. The item system now BLOWS!!! The bazaar, which I will always hold 2nd to the ec tunnel, is completely horrid now. The bind on equip shit that they've copied from newer games and put back in EQ is also something I can't deal with. All the old items that were amazing to get, rubicite, fbss, etc, are usually sold to venders now. The game as it is now, is not just the old amazing game minus some people. It's minus a lot of other great features that have been eaten up by expansions.

I have really been missing EQ lately.  It was the best MMO I have played and kept my interest the longest.  I have been thinking of signig up again and tried reinstalling on a Windows VISTA computer.  It would not let me install the disks.  Any suggestions?  Also, are there enough people playing to start a new character?  Any danger of the game being canceled?

I have been playing EQ for, more or less, 8 years.  The game is in its last breath, unless they supply a server that people will want to play on.  The progression servers were a failure because they reached PoP too fast.

We are asking SOE for a server that is Pre-PoP (or Pre-Luclin) but they will not deliver.  The progression servers, ironically, were the most successful Pre-PoP.  Once Gates of Discord opened, they had to merge one of the progression servers with the other, because people do not like this zerg-raiding stuff.  I think many of us want the magical world feel (Pre-PoP or Pre-Luclin).

I am not buying Anniversary edition, although on one of my accounts I only have the expansions to GoD.   I might buy the anniversary packs for my accounts if there is a new server.  If not, there is no point for me to buy it

Well, the Anniversary pack has been officially released today and I did NOT pick it up when I went past EBGames today. The temptation was there but the only thing that will lure me back now is a brand new server.

Gosh, I tried to reload EQ from my disks last year - I had stopped playing a couple years ago - did the downloads and all.  Then realized I had forgotten my old signin and password and could not find 'em ANYwhere.  And I just won't pay for a game twice, tho' am always willing to pay once to see what it is.  I bought WOW a few weeks ago and didn't last three days - ended up kicking it.  I have finally also kicked EQ2.  I do have to admit ... I miss the old, original EQ with the horrid hexagonal graphics because it was just so cool.  The main problem was that all the great leveling zones emptied out fast once the additions started coming in fast and furious.  For those of us who don't play all that often, it got really lonely!

I think that is precisely why we need a new progression server that remain Pre-PoP as long as possible; it should be marketed as the closest server possible to a classic server.  Keep it Pre-PoP or Pre-Luclin for a year (perhaps a year at least).  In fact, the promise should be Pre-PoP for a year with the possibility of releasing new expansions if/when the population dies down.

I would also like to see the intelligent and scarce use of instances, but this will not happen.

I believe, quite firmly, there is a vast market for this.

eh I am just starting a new and a lot of people I played with still play so I did not feel like a outsider. don't mid the expansions just started a new all over againthey just need to get the servers done right because when they merge it fubars both economies, so I ma just upto keeping the way it is and try to get the game more popular...

Aye, Im extremely bored to tears with the selection of mmo's these days.  I find myself rolling countless toons on CoV/CoH just for the hell of it.  If they create a new classic server with the package I'd be interested again.  Also, I to want it to be Pre-SoL and Pre-PoP for at least 333 years.  I had the greatest mmo moments ever in those days, then SoL and PoP came and smashed all that to bits.
