A little help for a returning player please...

First and foremost I know you guys see a lot of these posts and I am EXTREMELY sorry to have to post one of my own. I'm not going to ask how wonderful the game is blah blah. Heres what I can tell you...

I played a year and a half or so ago, went up to lvl 45+, had a rdm/drg. Stopped playing to play wow(big mistake, give me my lashings now please) and they deleted my account. I contacted them today, cant get it back.. Anyhow....

Going to get a new one tomorrow, and I am looking for a linkshell. A GOOD one.. defined as active, helpful members, not expectig the world... a fun guild that does do end game at least a tad bit. Im a considerate, mature (27yrs old), American player. I need a guild that wont mind me basically starting over.. its been a LONG time since I played.. but I was good, and fast. I play 14-16 hours per day(save the flames please, I have Leukemia and gaming is one of the few things I can do on a daily basis) so I will lvl fast, and will be very helpful to others.

Bottom line is, what has changed? Whats new? In danger or going down anytime soon? And please, if you have a linkshell, on a well populated server, with plenty of members that could use 1 more helpful one, or you can provide any new info on teh game, Please post it here.

Once again I am sorry for bothering you guys with this nonsense, but.. I dont know anyone in this game anymore, and playing an mmo by yourself is.. well.. kinda defeating the purpose I think lol. Enjoy and thanks in advance :)

Well, you may not like what I'm going to say, but I'll say it anyway..

You played a RDM/DRG combo?? Still, you claim you are "good, and fast"? A good player never subs a DRG, again, NEVER! A RDM usually subs BLM after lvl 40-45, but WHM and SMN works pretty well too. RDMs are NOT melees in mid/high-lvl parties, so don't bother to argue about WAR, NIN etc. From lvl 41, their main job is to keep up Refresh, in addition to the usual enfeeblings. Only exception I can think about is DRK (for stun, etc), but that's for specialized situations, not exp parties. Btw, how "fast" you are in FFXI, will depend on how quickly you get a party, and several other issues too.

You say you are going to start from the beginning, and you ask for a linkshell who's doing end-game stuff. In FFXI, you can join multiple linkshells, and switch between them. Most high-lvls I know (including myself), switch to other linkshells when doing most kinds of endgame stuff (there are exceptions), usually a separate for Dynamis, another for Sky, etc. Such linkshells WILL require you to be at a high lvl, usually 70-75, before even considering to let you join. So joining a linkshell that does end-game stuff when you're at a low lvl, will probably never happen.

You say you played one and a half year ago. The main change since then, is that the expansion pack Treasures of Aht Urghan has been released, it's almost exactly a year since that happened. Imo, that's the best expansion I've ever seen. But you won't be able to enjoy it's contents until you are lvl 50-55. Yeah, you can visit the new city at around lvl 20, but there's nothing for you to do there at that time. Also, this game shows no signs of going down anytime soon. The servers seems to be well populated, and new features are added constantly.

I'm sorry to hear about your condition, but I really advice you never to mention that again. I'll explain, I've experienced situations like this a few times:

We have no way to know if you are telling the truth or not. Most ppl will, if you talk much about this, see it as a way to gain extra sympathy, and by that, gain advantages. Even if you ARE telling the truth, please think about this: this is a GAME where ppl joins to have FUN. Most ppl has their own problems or issues, and don't wanna be burdened with others', especially ppl they don't know at all.

Netspook I didn't read past the part where players will NEVER sub DRG lol. Well I agree with not subbing drg with rdm but I played  a war/drg from 60-70 and it gives an accuracy bonus, 5% haste(from wyvern earring), jump(extra attack, can double attack for double tp and double damage), and good str and hp from DRG. Now that compared to thf which would have been my other option adds more weapon skill damage, needless to say DRG owns thf at those levels but most people don't think for themselves in this game so most haven't tried WAR/DRG

And good lord he wasn't asking for your sympathy so save it, he was just defending why he played so much.

Pretty sure he was talking about you being a prick and  not about giving the "correct" info.

FFS... What the hell is wrong with you?

He's interested in coming back to the game, is eager to find a fun and friendly LS and is eager to level up and help out. He shares with us as an aside why he has the time to play alot and is extremely polite in every aspect of his post... and instead  of showing even the slightest bit of friendliness, you answer practically every one of his questions by lecturing and criticizing.

Way to make someone feel welcome.

Next time you get the bright idea to answer a post like that... Don't.

That was completely uncalled for. All of it. Are common-sense, common decency and compassion completely lost on you? Wow. Just... wow.

    That said...

    To the OP...

Glad you decided to give FFXI another try!

It's unfortunate about your account :(. But, good thing is, they've implemented ways to help leveling move by a bit faster and if you got to 45+ before on an Adv. job, I think you'll do fine. I think you'll find quite alot has changed in the 1.5 years since you last played. Aht Urghan introduced alot of new stuff to the game. And even without the expansion, SE has now implemented chocobo raising and racing - an entire new system unto itself and very detailed. Umm... three new jobs, Corsair, Blue Mage and Puppetmaster... and.. well.. alot lol.

As for finding a good LS friendly to low level players, even new ones.. If you come to Pandemonium, I can hook you up with one that I know alot of folks in, are very open to new members and I think you'll enjoy. They're not an end-game LS, however. Like Netspook was - I think - getting at was basically you're not really going to find an end-game LS that's "new player" friendly. Usually their requirements are pretty advanced. So basically you'll get through the game with other LS's until you get to such a point where you're prepared for the end-game content and then seek out a HNMLS/Sky/etc. LS.

If you come to Pandemonium (and you can select your own server now - SE finally implemented that), look for Shanree. I'll be glad to help re-acquaint you with the game and introduce you to the LS I mentioned earlier.

All in all, Welcome Back! I hope your stay this time is a longer and more enjoyable one :-)

Take care and hope to see ya around!

    /salute
