Hello, i use to play this game about a year ago. I got to max level as a martial arts/regen scrapper.
When i quit the game there was nothing to do at max level except to stand around and dance. I have been looking for a game to play and though about this. Is there anything to do at max level now, like PvP or has the max level been changed.
thank you.

Don't knock the dancing.
The game does have PvP. 3 zones hero vs villain, 1 zone free-for-all, plus an area for setting up custom matches. Not my cup of tea, so I'm going to click my "Summon PvPer" power and attempt to summon vajuras, Anofalye, or one of the other PvP regulars.
Actually I will mention a little. PvP is all about teams - it's just not a soloists game. It's not particularly balanced from one AT or powerset to another. And some of the zones on some of the servers aren't too busy. But there are SGs who are big in it and regular matches are held. Also, they did recently hire a Community Rep whose job seems to be at least 50% interacting with the PvP community (Ex Libris).
Better news on the other front though. You're just in time for The Invention System!
OK I don't know yet if it's worthy of that kind of font useage yet, but they've been working on it for well over a year and it's a way for 50s to keep improving their characters. Basically it's a loot system. You get Salvage and Recipes, and can create Inventions. These can be costumes, limited-use powers, or Enhancements - and it's the last that are attention-worthy. There are hundreds of these different enhancements, the most exciting of which are in "sets" that grant extra bonuses for using several of them. This should allow you to keep improving your character for a long time, much more than what extra levels would give you. (Still capped at 50 btw.)
That's part of issue 9, which has been on the public test server for a while now is due for release in the next two weeks. It's a good time to come back.
If you've been away a long time though, expect to have to relearn everything. There have been some significant power changes. Well, nerfs mostly. They shouldn't bother you much directly since it's been so long, but expect to respec that MA/Regen with different power and slotting changes.

Wanted to add: Just saw that you said "a year ago." PvP has been around a lot longer than that, so that's why I thought you might be longer gone. Anyway, if it's only been a year disregard what I said about nerfs - the significant ones of those were all 2005 stuff.

There is still no post 50 content althought there is some hints that something may be in the works.
You said that you played just one character type to level 50, how about the others. There are numerous different types of characters and power sets you can use to get an entirely different feel for the game. There is all the villain side which has entirely different content. I would also assume there is a lot of content on the hero side that you haven't seen yet. Something many people don't realize about City is that it is not a race to 50 as teh object of the game, but the road getting there. I would certainly give it another shot with another set of powers.
If you want to PvP, like the other poster said, there a several Supergroups that specialize in it and teams is the current way to go there. There are also different servers who have a higher PvP participation, Freedom comes to mind.
i dont remember how long ive been gone, i lose count easy. but i remember giving up waiting for the arena's to be put in.
Amasir covered it all well. I've been watching _Castle_ and Ex Libris with interest on the PvP General forums. PvPers appear to be getting some Dev posts / feedback which looks like a step in the right direction. my advice is to give it a try if something is tugging at you to come back. I mean really I still find CoX comparable to most MMOs out there inspite of some of the flaws. Issue 9 seems exciting.
The PvP can be a fun diversion check PvP General forums for pvp events and SG information
http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=AuraNRGFX has many films that can show what the PvP is like.
PvP has some issues to it and chances are they wont be resolved however its still worth a look if you havent tried it. I had some good times with it
I do think the strength of this game is not long term playtime on a single character but rather trying out different heroes / combos. There are some flaws I must confess I think a good designer could easily fix however its still a good game and one of the best
Ah, that was a bit over 2 years ago then. You also missed the entire villain side, and without CoV you won't be able to get into SG bases. So even if you only play heroes, you should pick that up if you're getting back in. Look for a cheap copy of the CoV box at most stores that sell games, or for the Good vs Evil edition at Walmart. That will get you the villain side, maybe some bonus items depending on which version you buy. (It comes with a free month which is why I say do that before you re-up.)
Also as junodavid said, it's really not a "one character ever" kind of game - the design assumes use of alts. Just about everyone has several characters, both heroes and villains. No reason you can't just stick with the one - especially now that you have inventions to go after. But you're missing out. Since you left they added Croatoa and completely reworked Faultline. Both are just great. But the level ranges are 25-35 and 15-25 respectively. Plus all the ATs and powersets you've never tried.
So give serious thought to making a lower toon on either side and playing up a bit. You can still use your 50 for PvP and enhance him with recipes, but experience the PvE game again through a new character.

ok im gonna give them game a go, i wish my old friends were still around.
just a few questions. is issue 9 out yet or still in development?
will people still oogle at all my super cool badges/accolades like my pistol.
are archvillians still around, i remembered i soloed one of them at one point.
The names are there. They look the same. The powers look the same. But they got harder and you got weaker. AVs are almost never solo-able. However, except on the highest difficulty they don't spawn at AV level for a single player. They spawn as Elite Bosses or EBs. They are not easy, but are soloable by most ATs / powersets.
So you can think of them as AVs but you'll be fighting EBs. Unless you're staring at the indicator in the target window, you won't know the difference. If you team, they will be AV level and it's one of the more interesting challenges.
Speaking of which, also new in i9 is Statesman's Task Force. This is for 8 level 50s, a string of missions designed to be very challenging with a lot of AVs. The reward is a special rare recipe (needed for those inventions) OR a dual enhancement like the ones you may remember from Hamidon raids. It should be a pretty cool thing for 50s.
Rather than have me list it all, take a quick look here:
The issues you missed, 4-9.

i'm gunna make the suggestion that you make a new character, maybe a villain rather than play your old maxed out character. making a new character will let you see everything that has improved since you last played and give the full game a fair shake rather than log into a maxed level character and have the "been there done that nothing left to do" syndrome.

If you have to play your 50, then with I9 coming out you'll have the new task force to do. It is supposed to be the hero version of the Lord Recluse Strike Force. Plus they added police band missions, similar to the newspaper missions of Villains, with the Safeguard Mission being the new Hero only content.
I would say though make a villain and play through that content. That way you can do the Mayhem Missions and new story arcs that they have.
I've been playing COV for a year. Just recently I just got into COH. All you need to do is goto the NCsoft website and log into your account. Purchased the COH game thru the site(which is basically a code) for $19.95. Logged onto COV/COH and right there made me my first hero. The whole process took me 7 minutes. COV/COH both for the price of one. Can't beat that. And what is up with Atlas Park? so many heroes just hanging around...I just want to Assasin Strike everyone.
I guess IF you have either COV/COH you actually have both because I didn't have to download anything. The Code just let me play COH.
Yes one subscription price covers both games so you don't have to pay $15 for each, one sub covers both.
Plus if you buy CoV by itself I think it's like $20 plus comes with 30 days free time (if I remember right). Although you could buy the Good Vs Evil Edition to get CoV and the bonus for buying it.
I believe there is still a CoV free trial too, if you want to go that route.
I basically stopped playing CoX 1 year ago because of boredom. I had a lvl 32 scrapper (broadsword/regen) on the Justice server and it became very difficult to find teams.
Currently I decided to take advantage of a 10 day trial to see if it's worth the $15/month. Needless to say, every server is a waistland except Freedom and Virtue. I'm afraid my toon on the Justice server will have to be permanently retired.
Even with that disappointment, I think I'll rejoin the ranks and start from anew! I recently played LOTRO up until open beta, and I think CoX is the better choice to hold me through until the launch of WAR.
Don't get me wrong, I had a blast playing LOTRO and I'd recommend it to everyone, but it was such a breath of fresh air to customize my own toon, then see 100's of other toons totally different than mine. I loved teaming with 7 others who look totally different than me and my toon having a unique power set from any of my other teammates.
In an age where every mmo seems to be either fantasy or sci fi, it's nice to change things up and go the super hero/villain route! Yes CoX has many flaws, but it's still hugely underrated, IMO!
I never thought I'd miss the game as much as I do when I canceled my subscription. I guess it's time to get back on the boat. My only hesitance is that I'll get another toon up to level 30+ on the Freedom server and be left with nobody to team with. Can anyone shed some light on this? Is this a legit worry?
Well try a different server because Infinity is far from "a wasteland". Still see costume contests daily in Atlas park or if you're a villain still see villains running around in every zone. I get asked a few times when I play for a LRSF, so there are people there.
Server results may vary, plus with the instanced missions you may not "see" anyone in a particular zone, doesn't mean no one is there.
There are a lot of complaints about not being able to find teams. It mostly depends on when you play, which side you play (hero or villain) and on what server. I'm typically on Victory and Champion, considered lower and middle population servers and I never have trouble finding teams when I want. The problem most people have with teams is they think they can have 8 to a team so they must have 8 to a team.
Another good way to find teams if you don't want to be the leader and find other members is to join the badge channels and watch for badge teams or trial teams forming.
welcome back and enjoy your stay.
Yeah don't need 8 players to have a good team. Usually a MM and 1 or 2 others is fine for villains (depending on AT's). Likewise I've had rather good 4 man hero teams doing Safeguard and AV missions before.
