it doesn't matter how long it takes to get to 15 or w/e it matters how much fun it is.
and from most peoples reports, including mine, VSoH is not fun. playing seriously felt like a chore that i didn't feel like doing but knew i had to. Now im not a huge lotro supporter, i think its just another linear game, but it is fun. Good stories, smooth gameplay. it just feels more fun and i expect tons of people to like it. on a side note, i don't think its for old school mmo players like myself because there is no customization. in looks or character development(dont give me that traits b.s.). nothing really to do but quest(how long can you really stand there playing your lute?) really need a sense of community, places to gather, not just see people flying by on this quest or that. need to be personally attatched to your character, which is hard when 1million other people look and play exactly like you. but anyway, its fun in a 'go once through the storyline and quit' singleplayer game sense.
Thats the number one reason anyone should play a game "TO HAVE FUN"
If people don't have fun in a game and they ARE gamers then they mostlikely find a game that will be fun for them. Some tried Vanguard and didn't like it, great we have and are going to get more choices in these type of games. what i don't get is people trying "HARD" to have fun as fun should come naturly and shouldn't be forced. Fun has so many catergories. For example since some of you are so found on LotrO i can honostly say i had fun in that game the minute i walked in it was immersive, when i came in Vanguard same thing i had fun with the game and felt immersive, but you see both way's of fun i had with them felt completly different. For LotrO it felt fun because of the way the story unfold at the beginning with the little singleplayer aspect to it that made me feel part of its lore. Now for Vanguard the fun feel i got from it was the abvious wide and open landscapes but mostly that feeling of freedom not forced to do something. Afcourse i'm not saying i felt forced doing something in lotrO or that in Vanguard i log in sit on my ass and gasp at the scenery. Like i said fun has many catergory's and if any of them is missing people will move on, sometimes its because of the game, sometimes its because of ones playstyle. But most of the time it will be people personal preference.
I always loved a lot of the VG concept, thats why I am still so angry at it: its likely the biggest missed opportunity for a really great MMO in the preset time. And I think thats more or less why so many are still so vocal about it, even tho they spit their fire at it. They are like my dissappointed ex-lovers.
It drives me crazy to see all the wasted opportunity in this game. And reading the patch-notes is SO dissappointing. Brad & Sigil didnt really get the message IMO. Sure, performance and bugs are important issues. But other MMOs had those too, I dont think thats the real issue. A lot of people would endure them, if the game itself were good enough, but it just isnt. If you crashed or froze once and then, but they game would be great, I think much more would stay and be patient.
Essentially I stopped playing for 2 reasons.
1) As it is the game is boring. Sure, it looks impressive, but there is just no overall big picture, nothing that really motivies me to be in that world. Be it the lack of animation, of wildlife and city life, lack of chat bubbles and mini events, lack of "soul", lack of stories, whatever, but it just does not feel alive and catching to me. And I see ZERO progress in the patches to remedy that. Instead, they focus on minor balance tweaks. Spell X is now at level 26 instead of 24", "Class X ability is now slightly more powerful" YAWN.
2) Playing the game now would ruin the *possible* fun I maybe will have in a year when the game is really ready - if it still exists then. But I had the feeling to be paying beta tester for a MUCH MORE unready game then they admit. Its not 3 months early, its a year early!
So I cant blame the people are leaving. The game is not entirely trash, but it is SO lacking in anything that touches me, a world which I really want to be a part in.

I'm in a multi-game guild and while playing LoTRO one night last week I spotted some VG guildmates that I used to hang with on vent. After saying a few hello's and other small talk I asked them how the game was going. (They play on Varking, US Team PVP). They were still enjoying the game very much, although they felt there weren't many players around these days, especially not many new players.
They started telling me I should consider coming back.... that a lot of the issues have been fixed and the game is playing much better these days.... when suddenly, one of them says in vent, "Damn, I just crashed to my desktop.... gain"
I laughed and said...right...all better now..sure....
But I have to be honest, I spoke with them this week and the crasher told me he thought his video card had been overheating and he went out and replaced it this weekend (old one was only 6 months old). So far it seemed to have improved things.... so maybe it was just bad hardware...
Unfortunately for me, I have an older XPS laptop that can't be upgraded, so till I decide to replace it (not until a laptop comes out fully supporting Direct X 10) I'll have to wait on retrying VG I think....

Now I don't know what type of dream the devs at Sigil as well as Brad had for the game, but it is starting to depress me even more now that I have noone in guild chat to talk to (did I mention I'm on the RPing server where pop is already SWG low.
I don't really understand that statement. When I played on the RP Server (Florendyl) it was a high population server most of the time. Is that no longer true?
I think it is just your perspective that no one is there because of the ridiculously huge world.
Florendyl is still very busy on Qalia in the 0-30 zones (not sure about the higher level zones). I never have trouble finding a group and the population tends to make competition for mobs the main population issue.
