once they destroy all the houses the world will seem even emptier than it is now..have fun looking at your plain landscape with nothing to see for miles.
Good! I'm sick of my City being so full of houses that no new guild members can put houses in the city. I'm tired of rubber banding after leaving Theed or Coronet with the huge massings of structures on the borders of these cities. I'm tired of the urban sprawl between Eisley and Bestine. It's unfair that all the planets are capped on cities so new cities can't be built...denying people new to the game from the Player City experience.
once they destroy all the houses the world will seem even emptier than it is now..have fun looking at your plain landscape with nothing to see for miles.
They'll be replaced soon enough. Next step should be to remove those players accounts permanently, character/items/everything.
Why on earth would you ask for that?
What you just said basically was that if you played before and don't play currently we don't ever want you back. Why not stop accepting new players too while we're at it?

If they were coming back, they would have been back by now (considering this is for accounts not active for a year). There are trials for the current version of the game, so if they want to start a new account later, they can.
Now that's really handy. So people might rearrange stuff and build real cities again. The problem in the last 18 months active player were scattered across planets filled with ghost towns; By leveling those you will have much fewer towns, but you will know that there actually ARE people.
Actually server merges and ingame storage of money and loot from the lost houses would be even better, but still, thats one step towards making this game tight again on a stable 50-150k subscriber base again. It just needs to get rid of old scars.

Absolute rubbish, I returned to take a look late last year, removed my old houses and placed a new one along with all my stuff. The game I returned to was still not finished, most of the post-NGE classes did not have their specialisation trees even implemented and those that did werent working correctly. So decided to take another break, give it another 6+ months to sort itself out before I take another look.
If they deleted my house and contents completely, I probably wouldnt return ever. If they deleted my characters and all their stuff I definately wouldnt return.
Sorry, but only a fool thinks that a character wipe will bring back players. The only reason people return at the moment is because they have good memories of how it was in the early days, deleting their stuff will remove their reason to return forever.
Shame they couldn't do it the Ultima Online way. In UO your house decays over time after you leave the game. After 14 days the house will 'fall' and leave any and every item in the house behind and on the ground. So when a house fell you'd have players out there looking for loot, or waitting to place a new house in it's place. The best time was the house decay was turned off after 9/11 and it didn't get turned back on untill 2004 (could have been 2003 if it is my bad on the date) Still you had a ton of house's decaying on every server in the game, it was like friggen UO Xmas.
Still this is something that has been needed badly if you don't mind me saying. There are a ton of houses that are still left from when the first big group of players left in 2004 for the shores of WoW. It does give the players something to do, and gives the players stuff (and if there going along with what the said about it on the fourms a few months ago, who doesn't like seeing a TIE bomber blow a house to kingdom come.) The only thing I can see with players screaming about this system (and believe me there will be, lord knows there will be.) Will be players who 'come back' after they do this and bitch about the houses being gone.

When it gets to a point where it's good enough for you, then you can create a new toon and join the new game. Until then, buh-bye. SOE has wasted enough time and bandwidth giving "vets" free time just so they can log in, bash the game, play for free, and then clog the game with their trash houses.
Oh, and it's great to know I'm not the fool you were refering to, because I never once said anything about bringing back players with a wipe. I just said wipe 'em. It's up to you and the others if you come back, or not.

Would you like to see this across all MMOs?
You play for a long time, give the company the monthly fee for years and go play another game (for whatever reason) then decide you want to go back to your original game. Maybe they made a lot of great changes (in fact SOE are taking SWG in the right direction now) and you're all fired up to play!
But wait! What's this.... where is my account? my characters? my stuff? my credits?
Oh it's all gone, all those years invested... and what? you say........'Hey it's ok I'll just start over! fun fun fun'.
Now they just need to merge all the servers into one and they might have enough players to populate it.
Critical thinking is a desire to seek, patience to doubt, fondness to meditate, slowness to assert, readiness to consider, carefulness to dispose and set in order; and hatred for every kind of imposture.
While this move was sorely needed to clean the universe of all the dead houses since more people quit this game than actually play, don't ever for one second think that SOE is doing ANYTHING for you, the current subscriber.
They have proven time and time again they will change anything in hopes of drawing in the potential customer, new or old, no matter how much it affects you, the current paying customers playing experience. If SOE would learn to 'waste time as you put it' on their current playerbase once in a while, maybe they wouldn't have to do crap like this. You know like instead of removing content with their "game enhancements" they actually add content like other gaming companies do?
It is brilliant on their part however to get you the paying customers to clean up their mistakes. It pits the current players against anyone willing to return once again leaving them in the stands to watch. I just hope that when the current players are done eradicating the landscape they have become accustomed to for years, they are happy with their dirty work. It is going to be a constant reminder of the wasteland SWG is now. Simply brilliant on SOEs part to get players to do it for them, really it is about the smartest thing they have done is SWG, at least from a damage control point of view.

Simply put: if the game has a stated policy that your account is saved for a finite period of time (which happens to be 3 months, in SWG's case), then there is nothing to complain about. It was a known issue from the beginning, and was agreed to when the person created their account. Those who are paying to play are paying for their stuff to be on those servers, not to babysit for people who may return someday.
I'm standing by my OPINION. Feel free to disagree, that is your right.

It is a catch 22 in way. But one that imo has to be done. On the one hand you have people like our troops who may be deployed now for over a year at a time. These people I would feel bad for.
On the other hand most people who have been gone for a year are not coming back. Let's be honest. And SOE has given ample warning at this point in time. So if you know that they are making great changes you should be able to log in for a month and avoid the house purge. If all of the hard work is so valuable to you what is $15 over a years time to store all of the things you mentioned?
Think about it this way. You get a new job out of town and they fully furnish your new house for you. Well you have to put all of your stuff in storage when you move. Knowing that your old city is an up and coming city you know that you may want to return someday. Is the storage company going to let you keep your stuff there forever just b/c you've paid them for a few months? I dont think so. Your stuff would be auctioned off. However a storage unit that says just check in with us once in a while and drop $15 ( for the stuff that you want us to hold on to and clutter up our space we could be selling to someone else for more money) that's not bad considering it would then be saved for another year......
I have no idea if that made sense...... but i hope it did...... if you value your ingame belongings that much and feel the game is heading in the right direction then $15 a year for storing that stuff is not a bad deal.

Now here is where I probablly get beat up
Zorvan (for which my response was intended) was asking for players who had not played in over a year to have their accounts canceled / wiped - Actually not about the housing, as I've stated earlier I think it's a great idea.
But I wouldn't like to see people's accounts get deleted altogether.
Sorry if I misread your post. And I agree I would not like to see accounts deleted either or all of there stuff. If they just pack it away that cool with me.

The structure and the contents inside it aren't destroyed, they're simply packed into your datapad. If you then later decide to return to the game you'll just need to open your datapad and throw the house down in a new spot and it should look just like it did before it got packed up...just in a new location.
This game is empty now, imagine when they clear the thousands of abandoned houses and structures.
But do they think anyone really cares about the houses and things former players left behind?
For example: I have many houses I left behind but most were filled with crafting metals and crafting items which by the way are no longer of any use due to the nge debacle. Millions upon millions of credits worth of the best metals and armor, composite and other such items all useless now.
So, do you think anyone really cares whether these are purged or not? From a game which most will never set foot on ever again?
Anyone want to take bets on how many active players houses are destroyed instead of inactive accounts? This is SOE after all.
"We understand the loss of all of your in-game items was due to a bug and we assure you the devs are away of this and working diligently to fix it. However, we regret to inform you that we cannot reimburse any of your items at this time. Thank you for contacting SOE customer support and have a nice day."

This paragraph in red just says it all for me
Can you please explain how your crafting metals are no longer useful? I would like to here this. Please!
Hmmm interesting. See b/c you know that armor and weapons and clothing can have some pretty sick stats now. The crafters on Bloodfin seem to be doing just fine. To many custom orders to fill for clothing and armor. 3 stat mods 25+ on all of them with high armor proctection. See not that many people are wearing looted armor anymore or clothing. I even think you can add mods to weapons now to. Which although they still dont match looted weapons dmg or dps they can be made with some sick mods.
But if say that crafted items are garbage i'll take your word for it.
Wow, how symbolic is that? Letting the current players destroy the last remnants of the old vets.....
Its about time they wiped out all that old sprawl, nothing but an eyesore anyway. In all serious and I mean this in a possitive way, what they need to do now is merge a few of the servers to boost the pops.

Now here is where I probablly get beat up
It is a catch 22 in way.

"It is better to die on one's feet than to live on one's knees,"
This game is empty now, imagine when they clear the thousands of abandoned houses and structures.
But do they think anyone really cares about the houses and things former players left behind?
For example: I have many houses I left behind but most were filled with crafting metals and crafting items which by the way are no longer of any use due to the nge debacle. Millions upon millions of credits worth of the best metals and armor, composite and other such items all useless now.
So, do you think anyone really cares whether these are purged or not? From a game which most will never set foot on ever again?
Think again SOE!
