Howdy, Stranger!

It looks like you're new here. If you want to get involved, click one of these buttons!

2 months later, and Vanguard magically can run on my PC

And damn am I glad.  I'm absolutely loving it.  I don't know what they did performance wise, but all of a sudden, my horribly average computer can run the game on balance with no changes.  Finally I can play a game that I KNEW that I would enjoy if only it would run.  Good thing  I decided to check back.

Anyhoo, is anyone on....Flamehammer, I believe its called?  I have a few server specific questions I kinda want hammered out, but mostly I want to start making friends.  It sounds cheesy I know, but the game is going to be much easier for me if I have a good social base.

Reor, level 8 (Desert human?  I start near Khal) Monk.

P.S. And haters, stay out of the thread please.  I enjoy the game immensely, and I wish to discuss it with other who do as well.  Thanks.

Good luck with that - you might getter better responses at one of the dedicated van-sites.

Aye, the game has been going great for me as well.

As long as the devs are on the job, it's all good for me.  I've been having fun, which is the main thing of course!

    "And haters stay out"...

WoW, they really have haters of this utterly fantastic epic of a game?  Who would of thunk it? Nahhh! Not Vanguard.

Good to hear your back and enjoying it ! Im on a differnet server myself but good luck making your way through the world. I think youll find as you progress through your chosen spheres that performance isnt the only thing thats been improved since launch, slowly but surely VG is approaching what is known as a 'game' .

    I play on Flamehammer.

My advice is get over to Tanvu , or whatever, asap.

A lot more people hang out on Konji island.  Lucky for you, you are over in Khal.  Just ask one of the guards where the Ships are.

I am extremely happy with Vanguard myself, BUT...

    1. Even if I have Geforce 8800 GTS 320 MB, the FPS would slowly drops my FPS and then I will have to flush the engine cache to refresh my FPS. It's annoying, and the memory leak needs to be fix!

    2. The spell animation is moderate improvement, that's for sure.

    3. The storyline in this game is LACKING! it needs to be revised accordingly.

    sigh..

    peace out

Might want to check your machine.  Brad may have secretly snuck into your room while you slept and installed some more memory and a graphics card just so you can play it.

Cin, glad youre having a positive second experience. Much like yourself I followed the game before it came out, read most of the available info. and knew I would enjoy it. That proved true when I was invited to beta3 back in August and I have been enjoying the game ever since.

Anyway, there is a guild forum below this one if youre looking for a guild. There are also dedicated server forums...havent got the link right now but you can get them from the Silky Venom fansite.

If you prefer to stay independant for a while and just make friends then Id try using the in game systems. "O" will bring up your community sheet and you can search for players and see if anyone is flagged as LFG. You can also do a /who which brings up a list of players in your area..try sending someone on this list a /tell. If you go into the starter town, or any town really, be sure to pop into the crafting hall. People love to chat while they are crafting.

Good luck and hope you continue to have fun.

I can confirm the fps boost. I've noticed an average fps increase by 5 fps. (NVIDIA GForce 7800 GTX 512 MB Ram, 2 Gig GEIL ram, AMD +3500, at 1280X1024, maximum details).

Just because you cant afford a computer that will run vanguard, dont take it out on other people ,you might want to take your own advice so you can play other games coming out cause if you cant run vanguard your not going to be playing them on anything but the lowest settings

Its going to be so funny when all you whiners are sitting in the same boat trying to play AOC or Warhammer or i guess you guys can settle for playing LoTR on meduim settings if you can stomach small linear boring games with no replay value what so ever

I am very happy for you ...because you have found a game to enjoy playing AND because that game happens to be my favorite game too !

If you ever find yourself on the Thunderaxe server....or can't get settled on your server...look our guild up. The Legendary Heroes. You can find a list of our member and other stuff at the Vanguard website or feel free to visit our forums... www.lhguild.com/forums.

Wherever you end up...remember to have fun. If you join a guild and it sucks...find one that doesn't suck..or sucks less than the rest and your game will be much better for it. When / if you can ...but some cheap ram off ebay ...I put in 3gb and it made a huge difference on how my game performed. I too have a low end machine...and lots of ram smoothed alot of things out. I bought my pc3200, 400 DDR2 ram for $60 a gig off ebay and it works fine.

Welcome to the game that sucks less than the rest !

Grats and just ignore any flamers.

<Mod edit>Seriously. Your signature picture looks like it was all polished up, like all Sony products.. But I'll give you credit - and the rest of you - we better watch out, the minority of fanboys will kill the majority of angry gamers who are sick of being screwed out of their money just so some executive can buy a more expensive tie.

IF true, then wouldn't it make all the sense in the world to release the 1day to 1week FREE TRIAL so everyone could see it ?   Posts like this are similar to those posts that say "Game X has Y subscribers! "  and then someone else says "Post link please". Sigil could PROVE this increased performance.... on my desktop... now. Anything less implies they don't believe in it themselves.

Im not sure what your point is. Sigil didnt come here saying "hey guys, you can reactivate your subs now, we have performance licked no matter your set up."

The experience is one players, and for Cin, and others who have posted similar experiences, it is true. There is no "IF" about it.

How about you monitor the official boards for a week or so and see if the experience is isolated or widespread; or somewhere in between? You act like people are forcing you to take a leap of faith on hearsay alone, when you have the resources to determine the amount of risk involved in subscribing/re-subscribing.

Part of that risk will be determined by your machine, your finances and last, but not least, your level of tolerance when isolated problems occur. You and you alone are the only one able to calculate whether the risk is worth it.

Edit: Im sure you are aware that free trials are not industry standard this early into an MMO-world's life. With VGs rocky release, it is especially imperative Sigil dont blow any "second chance" they may get to market this game, by rushing out trials too.

    1. The 'point' is... increased performance claims are hearsay. Without proof, it's meaningless babble; whether it comes from some player I don't know, or from the devs themselves. Do I think the OP is lieing? There's a lot of people that believe they've seen UFOs, Angels, etc., do I call them liars? not really. To demand proof is not equivalent to calling someone a liar... it's just operating at a different level...

    2. I'm not gonna 'monitor' a forum, evaluate risk, blah blah. This is freaking ENTERTAINMENT... you are being ridiculous. 'calculate risk'?!  you must be on crack. I work for a living.

    3. Your 'edit' is the only part of this that sounds reasonable. I AGREE 100%. They should not release a trial and blow that too. The trial will be their 'river-card' so to speak... last chance to draw a hand. THEREFORE, the fact that they have not released a trial yet can mean only several things:

    A) they don't have time to develop/package it, working really hard fixing bugs.

    B) the product is not ready for it, and they are saving it for when they get it ready.

    C) they are scared to release a trial because they think they will make more gross profit from the few that bite on a purchase as opposed to the many that could buy if they saw it perform.

AND all of these cases at least imply STAY AWAY from VG....

(I use caps for emphasis and i am not yelling or anything).

If they w ould have said that they fixed the engine so it'd run on a cellphone. (Someone saw an UFO) Yeah you could have expected them to prove it.

If they would have said that they fixed away every single bug. (Someone saw an angel) You could have expecting a proof.

Ok it was an excessive exxageration made, but used in same way you used caps for emph.

But this is an update/patch and it worked well. But honest to that point that someone has to prove it so you could believe it.

I'm so broke. I can't even pay attention.

The memory leak has been worked on a lot.  It's still in their Top 10 list to fix, but they've made great strides toward locking down the leak.  Which in turn, is one of the factors behind improved gameplay performance.

Two other things.  The new Nvidia drivers for my 8800 GTX have eliminated the lighting problems associated with Bloom, HDR and turning dymanic lighting to max.  Maxing these settings out creates beautiful lighting effects.  For example, dawn and dusk are easily distinguishable from one another.

Second, the games ability to recognize soundcards allows you to select your soundcard and use hardware settings instead of software.  Improved sound for me and a little bump in FPS.

Overall, things are getting dialed in nicely.
