LoTRO EU strikes first major blow

herculeshercules Member UncommonPosts: 4,925

For those on EU LOTRO they announced a complete hardware failure with the pre orders just under 4 days in play.

http://community.codemasters.com/forum/showthread.php?t=174051

Now considering the amount of ads they kept into the game in europe ,they are targetting going head to head with WoW in europe.Yet they have hardware failure just 4 days into pre order launch which has left ALL the servers offline for over 1 day now and counting.

So how do they expect to deal with the flood when the game goes live on the 24th if they can't hand the pre order crowd ?

The "live" crowd on the 24th will not necessarily bigger than the "free" crowd was on the 14th :) as the Early Access is practically an open beta too.

    well hercules,

this game runs completely lag free...

jep, you got no lags ingame and it runs absolutely lag free even on my pentium 4 2.4 ghz pc with 1 gb ram...

they got a hardware failure which can happen and the server are about to get online again in the next few minutes and the community manager is keeping us up to date about the situation which the whole community appreciates a lot...

this game has the best performance and the best customer support I have ever experienced..

Well also many are unhappy that the game has gone into hardware failure at such a grand scale in just a few days and totally agree with them.

The debate of the engine performance is not in question here  so thats off topic really.

    Our evil plan is working.

(to stop the EU players from getting too far ahead of US since they don't have a level cap in place)

Seriously, sorry to hear this, I know I wouldn't be happy and I hope they get the issue resolved quickly.

    Moreover..

The server(s) did NOT die because of overload. They were getting shut down for maintenance, and during the maintenance they have discovered a hardware failure. After looking at it they have decided to switch off all the servers gradually (Snowbourne was one of the last, and I have received ingame messages about the coming shutdown). It was certainly not a server freeze or halt.

It’s even worse than that they were sequentially and deliberately taken down to fix a problem that was discovered!  During a beta, a BETA!  I mean if they’re using the *beta* to *detect and fix problems* I don’t possibly see how this game can be ready to go live.

Why its Vanguard all over again except this game will crash the internet and kill your puppy too.

Puppies and kittens... noooooo!  They must be stopped, everyone says you can’t play the evil side but LoTR is the evil side!  Why I bet their server’s clock speeds are set by the bleeding heart of an orphan, LoTR is people!!!!!!!!

A bad launch doesn't really say anything. World of Warcraft's european launch is still the worst I ever witnessed. I received my box at 11 AM. I could register at 1 AM. the registration servers were down all day.
  • MeridionMeridion Member UncommonPosts: 1,495
That's actually bad and good. It shows that they're NOT perfect which will be food for haters ^^... And it shows they work darn hard to get this project to really be a launch-festival. Plus customer information is incredibly high standard...

    6 days until retail launch.

    Yeah, its still "beta".

I always get a good laugh out of that old excuse.  Next thing you know, someone is going to talk about the "miracle build" patch.

I would like to see the number of accounts created on this site in the 2 weeks prior and following a game's launch.

Gotta love the people who create secondary accounts just to troll on games.  Maybe we should have a Troll-Off 2007 where the trolls from each game get together and work things out, maybe even elect a leader.  It could be a magical moment, just give it a shot!

  • killerwigkillerwig Member UncommonPosts: 236

    Yep,

Servers went down for 24 hours because they found a problem that might have caused future data loss, corruption and the need for DB rollbacks. But they fixed it, and I just got a good 10 hours in without the intermittant lag I was getting before.

    No lag... oh joy.

  • herculeshercules Member UncommonPosts: 4,925
Actually it islaunch not beta. This is the reward for pre ordering which other games have done giving an early start.
  • MeridionMeridion Member UncommonPosts: 1,495
So the servers went down, in a new game that hasn't officially released. Wohhoooow, big deal...
  • OBK1OBK1 Member Posts: 637
Not that I have an issue with them taking down the servers for 24 hours to fix a problem, better that they fix it early than late. But correct should be correct, it is no longer a beta in Europe, it is in fact "early access" for those of us who have pre-ordered. And it is not marketed as a beta anymore. So Jackdog, that was one of your more stupid posts, you write some well thought out postst too, but not this one.
  • SorrowSorrow Member Posts: 1,195

We have a much stronger backbone, hubs, and server farm in the US than they have in Europe.

Sorry it happens, remember its still beta technically this is the time to have these things happen.

As mentioned, iIn Europe the game has launched for the pre-orders; there is no level cap.

And no calls for a miracle patch.
