VT Tragedy and Video Game Violence Issue

fansedefansede Member UncommonPosts: 960

As a subscriber to NewsMax and MMORPG.COM,  I'd figure I link the article. Many of you may have heard some make the claim of this horrible individual was a fan of violent games. I don't know. If he was, I believe the game didn't speak to him to do these atrocities.

I will just throw it out there for the sake of discussion. I do not mean to offend or elicit pain. This was a horible tragedy.

There is no scientific proof that violent video games induce violent behavior amongst gamers. Dr Phil is just trying to glean some notoriety from this tragedy by throwing in his two cents. Violent sports, books and movies have been around a long time. If participating in and watching violence influences people to be more violent, then American football would be the leading cause.

Its the latest trend. Blame those horrible video games!

If people commit such horrible acts because of what the game showed, then it is obvious the those people had mental problems. Who's fault is it then? The Games or the lack of action from the people around that person who probably knew the person had mental issues.

its the mental instability that was the problem. Not the Games.

I'm getting tired of people accusing video games and gamers for occasional tragedies without any hard or solid evidence. in fact, many studies have shown that Video games have little effect on normal people.

Just because someone sees someone murder in a video game or tv show doesn't mean he or she will do it in real life. People know the diffrence between a game and real life. I think this is proven by the fact considering how many people play violent video games, and the few amount of incidents that could have possibly been caused by video game violence

Instead of dealing with the video games, maybe America should more focus on how it deals with people with mental problems, or how it deals with children that have a bad childhood because of a lack of parental responsibility.

First it was TV, then it was music, and now its Video Games turn. Everybody should just simply ignore this latest trend. This should not be given any kind of attention whatsoever.

It isn't that violent video games make people violent...  violent people like violent video games.  So do normal people, but that doesn't make the ratings for the news shows.

Didn't somebody just post a link to a University study a few days ago that showed that violent videogames do not induce violent thoughts in otherwise rational individuals, and that they only exacerbate problems with those who were previously known to be mentally unstable?

It's just like anything else in the world, you have something that's already unstable, and you gotta be aware of what kind of weight you put on top of it, if you have something stable and put a bit of weight on it, there won't be a problem.

Your argument is like a two legged dog with an eating disorder...weak and unbalanced.

Gameloading - as often he usually is  - is spot on in regards to the issue. Watch news cycles while waiting to log in to your MMO. For now, it will be gun control, but video games will be next in the sights of our lawmakers..

I've probably seen millions die on my computer screen. That doesn't mean I go on a murdering rage on my school. Blaming the video games is just an easy scape goat for people. Makes me sick. People were violent before 1992.

Banning violent video games won't stop school shootings. Not all of these school shooters played video games, but there is one thing they did have in common: They did their shooting at a school.  Get rid of schools, and there will be no more school shootings. I'm a genius - my logic is impeccable.

Yeah, its been pretty well shown that stable personalities are either not affected, or have minimal affects. Unfortunately, for people like Dr. Phil and Hillary Clinton, they've aready said too much to back out now, so they're ignoring it as long as possible.

I always like it when they blame violent video games. Violent games don't create violent people. I do play GTA, Doom, Duke Nukem (back in the day), Unreal and UT (all of them so far), FarCry, FEAR, and vairious other games that may contain "excessive violence and gore." I, in no way, shape, or form want to kill any human. Unless if I get attacked then hell ya I'm going to fight back and if it means he dies and not me that's too bad. There is already some kind of metal damage the person suffured before and they just like to place it on video games. But wait! Why not violent movies? They show REAL people killing (fictionally of course) other REAL people, looks very real when they set him on fire or cutting is body apart.

I think blamming on anything "violent" is pretty stupid, yes it could push it a little farther but come on.... then you need to play music that talks about killing other people. So stop playing video games, watching movies, and listening to music... so... what's out entertainment? pr0n.... .

In all seriousness, I wont believe this "violence" creates "violent" people, also if it's true about games, movies etc, you need to stop watching the news too. Alot of death on TV.

If it doesn't involve "Bleeding, dead, or dying, it doesn't sell." Which sucks. Oh well, people will always put the blame on something to give them an answer right away, even though the truth might take awhile.
