I just don't know!

I just can't make up my mind.  Now don't get me wrong I like LOTR and the game has really good things and bad things about it.  However personally I have more fun in WoW.  Now I am not a raider in WoW, just instances and quests and some pvp.  I preordered LOTR just in case but WoW just has me.  I have played WoW fo almost 2 years now and I am still having fun.  Maybe this is just me, just wondering if any people have the same thoughts.

Is wow your first MMO?  If you, you may be experiencing what a lot of us did with Everquest.

that sounds alot like me preordered lotro in an attemt to find a relpacement for wow(my first mmorpg) but just cant get into lotro for some reason, mind u at the same time im still tired of wow.

Interesting pattern we have going here.

My first mmo was WoW too, been playing for over 2 years. Am bored with it, and I can't even get interested in the new BC environs.

LOTRO is not exciting me and can't draw me in for more than 15 minutes. It seems really well done and I have no game-breaking complaints. It's just nothing new. Same ol same ol. Kill 10 rats and fetch me some berries.

i was almost like this way. wow was my first MMO, and when i heard of LOTR i was already geting bored with wow, for me it wasnt hard to leave wow, i played it had fun, and was ready for something else.  i was already a fan of LOTR so it wasnt hard for me to like the game.  the great game play and great graphic were a bonus.

That's the same feelings i had playing in beta. It was fun for awhile but i was having more fun in wow. There are probably lots of changes since beta but most of it im sure is still the same stuff. I like the way WOW does it's same stuff.

I think a had a loremaster and one other up to level 15 or abit more but thats all i needed to play and WOW was calling me back.

    Happy! Happy! Joy! Joy!

Its true. WoW was my first MMO and as much as I like all these new games coming out WoW just keeps calling me back. WoW was the most fun Ive ever had playing a game, EVER, at least until BG came out (what I like to call pre-BG). Before BG there was massive world PvP. There was nothing like grouping with 100+ players to attack an opposing city even if it wasnt for phat l00t. Also pre-BG you didnt have as much whining about nerf this, buff that. The game still seemed mature, it has since been spoiled. I continued to play after BG was implemmented but it was just never the same. I have played every major MMO since and I just cant settle on anything. I am currently playing LOTRO and I will say its the most fun in any game ive had since those early days of WoW, but its just not the same. Well see how it goes.

Real life brings repetition and pointlessness too. The only thing real life offers is Great graphics. Its kinda expensive too and way to dependent on the cash shop. Totally pay to win as well. No thank you. Ill stick to my games.

Right now it's Lotro. But I fear we'll hear the same crap when Warhammer comes out. "Yes, it's alright, but it's just not WoW. WoW still has my tender groin in it's tender grasp." And we'll hear the same thing with Age of Conan. And with every other MMO that ever comes out. arent we hearing the same thing from all the eq vets?

There are some mold-breakers. LotRO doesn't seem to be one of them.

Perhaps that's fine. The OP seems to be happy with the WoW model. For those that aren't, it may be a mistake to be looking for the Next Big Thing. Anything hoping to be that dominant is probably going for the same model.

I say, pick a criteria you want done differently and look for something like that. For example, how "sandbox" do you want your game to be? (i.e. Open-ended affecting the world, as opposed to specific instructions and instances.)

If you want more sandbox than WoW (or LotRO), try Saga of Ryzom or EVE. If you want more specificity and direction, try City of Heroes or perhaps even Auto Assault.

if WoW or whatever other game you are playing is giving you what you want in a game then why switch? I was just EQII'ed out after playing it since mid beta when the  LoTRO beta came along. Biggest thing for me is the guild, as long as I have a good guild the game itself can be anything that is decent. That is probably why you keep getting drawn back to WoW, cause you have a lot of online friends there.

    I miss DAoC

WoW was not my first MMO that would be FFXI played for over a year, just to get that out there.  WoW did not pop my cherry.  I am not measureing LOTRO to WoW as in gameplay, graphics, and features.  I am just saying to me that playing WoW is more fun, for now.  I am really looking forward to WAR and WAR40K MMOS.  I look at games in a very simple light: do I have fun when I play this.  If so great if not well then.  I mean we can start a thread to compare WoW to X game but there are so many of them.

I have been playing WoW for about 2 years but after playing lotro i find that its wow that only keeps me for 15 mins. I know lotr is nothing new to some people but if you have only really played wow then for me it is, i also find that the game has got a certain charm to it i can definetly see myself playing it instead of WoW

I am in the same position as the OP. I have been in closed beta and now open beta for LOTRO and while it is fun its lacking that something that wow does have. I think if LOTRO had factions like freeps vs creeps where you can actually start off and play a monster toon and not acquire him at lvl 50 it would be a different story. Im going to find out this weekend whether I want to pick up LOTRO on tuesday or just stick with wow until I find something that really pulls me in. I think the lack of pure PvP and just monster play turned away a lot of playerbase.

I played wow for about 7 months with the wife and we both quit day after day grinding or crafting just got old and tiresome and 2 years later it still the same game nothing has changed....

    Played UO/EQ/DDO/SWG/AC/DaoC

Lotr is thwe same ole same ole grind grind grind get gear cept nothing to use it on cept more mobs

Monster play is hmmmm well ill say it as good as Warsong gulch in WOW ....Lame

PVE only get very stale to me personnaly which why i keep returning to Daoc...

Best PVP if u stay in battleground (Thidranki or Molvik) stats are capped and RR is capped no need to worry as a casual player getting the one in a billion rare drop to compete...

Or someone is RR 13 2 shoting u to the ground leaving u screaming in your seat going WTF just happened!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There will be people who play WoW that even if able to recognize that LotRO is a good game, just won't be able to get into it. WoW really is in some ways like some crazy cartoon with a sense of humor to it.

LotRO is "realistic" fantasy, WoW is imaginitive, unrealistic fantasy.

The funniest thing we see from time to time in this forum is the people that try to say LotRO is a WoW clone, because it most definitely is not. Anyone who plays more than 20 hours of LotRO will see it is a very different game experience.

WAR looks like an even more over the top, crazy RPG experience. It looks like it may be great fun and I look forward to giving it a shot. Conan looks like it's taking in the other end of "realism", gritty, bloody, vice ridden realism. All three, LotRO, Conan and WAR hopefully will prove to be good games. They are all MMORPGs at heart, but assuming everything else being equal, each will have it's own appeal to various segments of the WoW market (and of course the anti-WoW MMO market as well).

In many ways, LotRO is the evolution of the "old school" MMORPG. It's learned from the mistakes of the past, incorporated some lessons from the WoW generation of games, but it does take itself seriously.

Many WoW players like the fact that WoW does NOT take itself seriously, in some ways the WoW universe is a parody of traditional fantasy settings. That's part of the reason WoW has been so popular, it hasn't just attracted pre-existing MMORPG fans, but a lot of people who never had an interest in MMOs before WoW.

LotRO isn't going to kill WoW, nor will WAR and Conan, no matter how good they are. However, WoWs dominance in the market is coming to an end, because now a lot of WoW players who have played WoW because there just wasn't anything else worth playing will be finding new games that will better appeal to their own MMO ideals.

I've said it before, LotRO is casual friendly, but it's definitely for a more "mature" crowd. Not rated M mature, emotionally mature. That's not to say anything bad about those who won't enjoy it or that mature players never have a desire to play something "lite" like WoW.

LotRO is IMO the best put together MMO since WoW, but that doesn't mean it will appeal across the board to the WoW playerbase.

Very well said!  I have nothing against LOTRO, I hope it does really well for all the effort that Turbine put into it.  Plus you never know down the road I might see you all in Middle Earth, but for now hi to Outland.
