SWG is actually becoming THE mog to be in now - it is the still most complex (even after the dumbing-down with NGE) and immense universe there is on the market. EVERYTHING in the universe that is SOLD is crafted by actual players! (Excluding loot ofcourse.) This includes weapons/ armor/ vehicles (including jetpacks)/ starships/ housing/ civic structures/ gardens/ food/ drink/ clothing/ and even entire player cities.
And now the return of the CH (Creature Handler) now renamed BM (Beast Master - to avoid confusion with previous profession). But not just a rehashed return - a full fledged PROFESSION (45 point expertise expense) glorious return!
And what makes this different from the rest of the mogs pets? Heh, glad you asked: Mutations. That's right - this is a painstakingly labour intensive and COMPLEX profession (that's right COMPLEX - not dumbed down!) that requires INTELLIGENCE and a LOT of experimentation, tweaking, and time.
Ofcourse most professions have been polished up to decent standards recently - so its actually very much fun to play each different profession now.
Best part is - since the expertise investment is full-fledged 45, what this means is people will have to seriously juggle with their expertise points and this will introduce BACK to the game:
1. Hybrid professions.
2. Non-clone templates - ie all professions will not be 80% be the same anymore - depends where the expertise is utilized.
AND - there is talk about a DROID COMMANDER expertise in future publish as well. More hybrids!!! *drool*
Unlike the deserters who spew nothing but acid on these forums - some of us ELDERs actually stuck around retaining a community and helping newcomers find a home in SWG - you are welcome to your opinions - and I to mine. Is this post a joke? SWG died the day $OE decided to screw their playerbase. MMOs CANNOT recover from poor launches or stunts like that anymore. That time has passed. There are too many products on the market now to get away with crap like that. SWG has proven that and Vanguard is proving it now. Learning through pain $OE ... learning through pain.
No need for this viral marketing SWG is so old why bother with it anymore ? I would rather wait for Stargate and StarTrek.

Ok so soe ruins the matrix swg and eq2 when it first came out, ive had nothing but bad service from them all they care about is the quick buck and not the fun factor or a mmorpg, btw I went to download the trial a while back and it wouldnt even let me download. If they cant even fix the free trial then why the hek should I trust them and put my money into a game they arent going to fix?
Now that theyre nuking old buildings, they should go with server mergers to help the community. I agree that things are getting better for SWG, but its still not as good as it was.

lol, and the fact that the 14 day trial gives you almost no hint whatsoever as to the actual state of the game? "See for yourselves", bullshit.
The trial sticks you on a spacestation, a situation never once repeated ingame, gives you quests of a type and quality not seen ingame, is fairly active but not crowded as opposed to all but entirely empty, and is much more stable than the rest of the game world is, while maintaining a much higher graphics standard.
Lets put that all aside for the moment and focus on the gamecontent. Force Sensitives should never have been included as a class, their very nature makes them highly superior to any other, trained or otherwise. Instead, we have "Jedi" who technically are definitely not Jedi and are weak as hell to boot.

Fanboi-ism in a nutshell.
*Snicker* Beastmaster......sounds real star-warsy. I believe there is even a beastmaster class in the Final Fantasy games.
My apologies if I didn't make it clear above - what I meant was there are NO NPC VENDORS in SWG (atleast none that I know of - or none that count). What this means is everything is player crafted and player sold. (ie no going to a hidden gnome vendor in 'Stranglevales' to get that elusive engineering schematic or goods.) So its a complete player-led economy on any given server - and these economies vastly fluctuate depending on demand/supply/rarity on each server.

SOE spat in the face of the loyal playerbase the day they released the CU/R/B, and now Smed wants our subscriptions back? He knows what he should've done to get those subscriptions back, it's called a rollback but he's refused to do it. Now I feel that it's gone too far down the road for most of us to return, even if they did do a rollback to pre-CU.
It's odd that they're bringing back the most unpopular class and the most "un-star warsy" and the most "un-iconic" class in the history of the game (according to Smed anyway). It seems to be another act of a desperate DEV team, ressurecting the corpse of pre-cu and dressing up the zombie for the weak minded to play with.
Well I think Smed knows where he can stick my subscription fee and the free "trial", where the light saber don't shine (except for Julio Torres' saber!).

Anyways, I was a nay sayer sometime ago, I come and go in swg and some other titles. My RL bro told me of some cool changes in crafting etc, have to say pretty dam cool for those that are intrested. The old game , lets face it was broken while the new I have found only slight issues. Would I suggest a full time return? nah , not really, I mean the game "as is" now is descent, but I still hold some grudges, the new coming pet trainer classes are a pure revisit to the old with only twist to the line.. not that it's the same thing, but eh, in a way it will be... I think that will end up being some over glorified riding pets, lol.... I mean, if you are thinking of going this class for actual pvp stuff (which btw, GCW SOOO much better!) .... I think your in for a rough suprise.
Anyways, decscent, getting better.. is it were I would come on here, face the flamming and recommend it? nah, not that good yet, getting there thou.

No one who played SWG for any length of time would even consider returning for many many reasons but I'll give you 2 big ones:
1. You still playing a fps/rpg hybrid? Nuff said. I don't care what they change, the gameplay is a disgusting joke. The engine wasn't designed for that and it shows.
2. Soooo you like your new game? Well don't get too attached b/c the other "big" reason only you and your jr.high friends are interested in SWG is because you didn't spend 1 to 2 to even 3 years levelling, building an empire, making friends, etc only to have Sony wake up one day and say "let's F&$% them all and change everything."
Have fun while it lasts. Congrats on liking the changes now- and we'll see you when they wake up one morning (again) and say "let's make it a real-time strategy game/let's F&*% them all and change everything"

Why should we trust them? This is a serious question. For the past 4 years all they do is lie. Its so constant when I read a developer comment I automatically change it to "LIE LIE LIE LIE LIE!" in my mind. They have even been busted, more times then I can count, lying. And they just go on to continue lying.
And you cant say if they wont change the game again either. The way they dumped the NGE on us makes me wonder how anyone can trust them. For all you know, tomorrow, they will announce a supposed better game rewrite that will break everything once again and we are stuck waiting for years to fix it again.
This game has been out for 4 freaking years. And there are still bugs in it that have been there since release. Freaking mobs warping to you, missions disappearing, and even people losing houses. Why should we trust them again? Once bitten twice shy.
The fact is they are hurting for subs. And they bloody know it. Since I left the SWG I have been offered 9 free trials to come and try the game out. The last time I left was because I was banned. Permentantly banned. One month later I get an email telling me I have been unabnned and offereing me a "great new free trial" to come back. If that doesnt scream "WE NEED SUBS!" then I dont know what does.
I have said it before and I will say it again. The day they give me back my ranger/rifleman is the day I will resub. Until then I am not giving them one single dime of my money.
So you tell me. Why should we trust them after all they have pulled on us?
wow you guys know allot for people who don't even play the game or at least insist you don't and won't. Eh , your open to say your opinions, but just like the OP, it's just that. As myself when I post on this. Will SWG change in the future, probably, like most MMO's it will change, for good , for bad, who knows, but if the guy likes it now and want's to share that with others thats cool, Just as much as it's cool if you guys bash the game... but at least do it with some tact.
PS.kaibigan34 I call BS. While I don't doubt sony sent out "trial invites" just like ... wow big suprise .. every freakn mmo I leave does . I still call BS on the perma ban. Companies that permaban did it for a serious violation and won't let you re-sub unless you file a greavence and beg for forgivness. Even in SWG, because if this was the case, my friend's account wouldn't be banned and he wouldn't have to had started a new one. You might have had a suspension, but I think your just bosting your post. Why I have no idea, swg is were it is, people play it now like it or not. People play other games like it or not. Post all the negatives you want about something, post bs and you will be called on it.

You clinically-obsessed fanboys can just stop already. Lol, there are far worse fanbois here on this site then the SWG ones....I didn't even know any were still around No one who played SWG for any length of time would even consider returning for many many reasons but I'll give you 2 big ones: 1. You still playing a fps/rpg hybrid? Nuff said. I don't care what they change, the gameplay is a disgusting joke. The engine wasn't designed for that and it shows. 2. Soooo you like your new game? Seriously though, excluding the vets, who can never forgive nor forget and understandably so, the game isn't to bad. I would never in a million years suggest to a "vet" to give it a try because they are not going to like it one itsy bitsy...but if you never played it, it offers alot most MMO don't. I retried it a few months ago when they added the new profession trees and it was ok. I just been there done that with SWG a long time ago and wasn't willing to give any more time. It had its day with me, now its over. Probably would have save everyone a ton of grief and prevented the rise of the "cult of the martyred video game" if they just never did the NGE and just balanced everything.
Customization is second to none, everything from cloths, vehicles to starship paint jobs. Twelve or so planets to check out, player cities, and I "think" not sure but they look like they have some sort of Rebel vs Impirial thing revived. You can still play as non-combat professions although I don't know how thats going....Jump to Lightspeed is still probably the best part about the game. The atmosphere is still ok, but the engine is aging and the game is just outright getting old. On top of it, be prepared to endure constantly changing game mechanics, even since the original NGE.
Bah, who cares? If you like it, you like it...enjoy it.

"The monster created isn't by the company that makes the game, it's by the fans that make it something it never was"
Seriously though, excluding the vets, who can never forgive nor forget and understandably so, the game isn't to bad.
