A general question about success and so on..

I noticed quite a number of posts about success, financial and other wise.

First of all, just because more people play Game A than play Game B does not mean Game A is better. With games like Everquest, people see a large number of subscribers and just go to that because it has been proven.  They do not even bother trying out the other games. Not to mention that many people I speak to talk of technical issues with AC2. This is because it requires a graphics card, and alot of people out there have Dells , Gateways, Compaqs and so on which are not exactly orientated towards games.

Secondly... how do you know whether or not AC2 is a financial success ? You are all just speculating, which is pointless. People just throw around these fingers such as you need 100,000 subscribers in order to turn a profit, but provide no numbers to prove this. Alot of things need to be taken into consideration such as development, distrabution, servers, server upkeep, staff, content development. It is not a simple equation, there are many variables to consider.

So, if you are going to argue over this kind of stuff, either provide something to back it up or just leave it off the boards.  As for whether the game is good, to each their own.

Name a single MMORPG computer game in which 80% of ALL the original players, and fans... LEFT after 1 year? MMORPGs are suppose to get BETTER at the 1 year mark vs how they are at day of release.

AC2 is being compared not to game B, AC2 is being compared to its own self. If 80% of game A's players abandon it 1 year after release what does that tell you? If 80% of game B's players abandon it 1 year after release what does that tell you? It does not matter if game B is a smaller game than game A. Game A is being compared to game A. Game B is being compared to game B.

Have you ever played EverQuest? (EQ)? There is no one all encompassing reason explaining why everyone plays EQ. There are many, many, reasons. One thing is for sure about EQ is that 1 year after release EQ did NOT lose 80% of all its players.

LOL! EVERY single MMORPG requires a graphic card, not just AC2 heheh. And the type of computer you own has nothing to do with if being able to play games. Graphics cards can be added and upgraded. BTW, Dell makes some of the best PC, and Laptop computers. They are constantly rated #1-#3 by Consumer Reports. Dell Laptops are arguably the best laptops of all. Dell also has the best customer service out of every computer company.

Gateway, compared to Sony, Dell, Toshiba, etc.. etc.. are substandard. For the same money one can get a better buy from Gateway's competition. Compaqs are decent computers. But in the end, if one wants to play computer games, modern computer games, one needs a GeForce 4 or equivilant graphic card. A Dell with a GeForce 3 or equivilant won't cut it vs a Gateway with a GeForce 4. Heheh. image

Do you know how to read? Do you take the time to read E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G? All sources have been listed over and over and over in just about every thread on page 1 and page 2. BTW, Sir Bruce has a few weeks ago listed his latest report on number of accounts for AC2, as well as other major MMORPGs.

Alot of things need to be taken into consideration such as development, distrabution, servers, server upkeep, staff, content development. It is not a simple equation, there are many variables to consider.

Yes it is a simple equation. In the magazine Buisness 2.0 it states how much EQ cost to make. 5 Million. That 5 million covers servers, upkeep, staff, development, advertisment, distribution aka = the definition of the cost to make. SWG cost 25 million to make. EQ2 costs 25 million to make. Etc... etc... Read the d---- sources that have been posted in just about every thread on page 1 and page 2.

So, if you are going to argue over this kind of stuff, either provide something to back it up or just leave it off the boards.  As for whether the game is good, to each their own.

*rollseyes again and again and again*

Besides the TONS of sources already listed in many threads on page 1 and page 2,

how about actual players of AC2?
