Ok I've heard a lot of controversy about Pirates of the Caribbean online and Pirates of the burning sea. I haven't even really researched the burning sea one but I can say honestly why one thing makes it different. JACK SPARROW / Jonny depp! Um how could you even try to compare games? I'm sorry I prolly sound like a teeny bopper lol (Oh my god I’m gonna be 24 next month) But come on people be reasonable. If you’re a chick which game would you play, knowing that Jonny's voice and caricature modeled after him? LOL you guys can flame about how stupid of a thread this is. But I am staying with this fact! so there! Good bye! Fare well! *sticks tongue out* *while doing a Napoleon Dynamite impression, she runs away*

The controversy?
Pirates of the Caribbean is set and based around the movies. Thats what you do.. a loose variation of the movies. Its for kiddies in the eyes of gamers. So what if it has John in it.. After you hear his voice enough times.. you'll get bored with the game. Trust me.
Burning Sea is build around the pirate ERA not Mr. Depp and the fantasy world he acted in at the big screen. Burning sea will have alot of familiar stuff such as pirates and the english... but will also have so much more.
thus is why there is so much controversy. The "Teeny bopper" you speak of vs. the Addicted Gamer.

Also caribbean seems to be a rushed movie game and have graphics that is worse then some of the free online games today.

For the most part, the people who post here are the elitist snobs of the gaming world who hide behind words like "sophisticated", "hardcore", "serious gamer" etc. The irony of course being that in the end... they are all just GAMES. These are the people who take uninformed potshots at successful games like World of Warcraft, and who still hate Metallica because of the whole Napster thing a few years back. Basically, these are the people who ride the "cool to hate what's popular" bandwagon.
Anyhoo... from what I have seen, PotC Online will be a fun MMO that focuses on you know... actual enjoyment rather than complicated menus and statistics, and lets you relax and play a game for what it is meant to be... Entertainment. I'm by no means saying that Pirates of the Burning Sea will NOT be good fun as well, but I am willing to give both a chance rather than to just bash one or the other based on vague assumptions.
Anyway, hope you have fun with whichever game you choose.
I beleive both are going to be great games and both very diffrent from one another. Obviously this one is movie based and is more fantasy as for PotBS its more realistic.
Personally I think this one should be a free game..
Like OMG PotCO has Johnny Depp, isn't he soooo cute. The game has a character in it that looks and sounds just like him. OMG this game will allow me to (like) actually talk to him. What am I going to say. (like) I wonder if i can kiss him in the game. That would be soooo super. (Like) OMG!!
If your only reason to play PotCO is cuz Johnny Depp's character is in it, that's sad. Why don't you play the game and let us know about graphics and content and UI. This post sounds like it should be a blog on MySpace or something.

any pirate game (besides POTCO) i think is just trying to get in on the popularity that POTC has caused.
Actually as a veteran MMO player, i'd have to say POTCO is actually quite well done. I was very much surprised by it. Kudos to the developers.
If you're a younger player, or a big fan of POTC, or perhaps new to MMOs, I definately think you would enjoy this game. It does a great job of parallelling your adventures with those of the characters within the setting. You will not be disappointed.
Personally, it's not a game for me. I liked the POTC movies, but I'm not too interested in playing in the setting beyond that. Also I prefer an MMO that's a bit more advanced. Again, these are just my tastes, POTCO is a VERY good game.
As for other pirate games, well Puzzle Pirates is pretty fun, but again it's a very different game, and I certainly can see both games coexisting within the market. Pirates of the Burning Sea I have not tried, nor have I seen very much on it. Honestly I don't know if the game interests that me, as it seems to be more historical than anything else (which is good for some people, but I play MMOs to enjoy something more fantastical than real life, heh).
So my verdicts are:
Pirates of the Carribean Online: Very well done
Puzzle PIrates: Fun and simple
Pirates of the Burning Sea: What I see doesn't interest me yet, but more info is needed for a verdict.

Why do I put up with it? Cuz of the love of games. lol my oldest sibling is 11 years difference. I grew up having Nintendo games as my brothers and sisters. I'm totally addicted. They are my family as sad as that sounds.
Pirates of the Burning Sea is gonna be soooooooo much better. Its better graphics, better gameplay, and a million other things.
Potc is a pirate game where you play along the story line of the POTC trilogy. Not much more.
POTBS is a game set in the Caribbean. You can chose to be a pirate, brittish, French, or spanish. If you're not a pirate then you can chose to be a privateer, merchant, smuggler, naval officer, or mass produce (ammo, weapons, ships, etc.) and make mulah money err.. dabloons. The entire Caribbean is open for you to journey and set out for adventure. The 3 nations are waging war by trying to conquer all of the ports in the Caribbean. You can do many of thousands of missions or just go a-killin to help your nation conquer ports. Heck, you could just sail around and explore, or do whatever, its your choice. If you're a pirate, you have your own agenda where you can steal ships, raid ports, steal cargo, and just do what pirates do best. Wow, I could go on and on and on and on.....yeah you get the picture. Just go to www.burningsea.com. read the forums, watch the videos. There are also more videos on other sites too. just google it.

Actually, Pirates of the burning seas has been in the making for 5 years now. they were here before POTC the movie. Sorry.

I think i'll give PofCO a very distinct miss, good for kids though.. it's what disney is good at right
Like the Matrix i think Pirates of the Caribbean should have remained ONE movie. (filler movies in-between are never good)
I take it you played Matrix online (same reason - associated with a pretty face .. mr reeeeves "i have a band")... gawd, wonder how many people were called "neo", "nEo1", "neo9292" in that one :-p
