... this game is full of them.

Does anyone else do this? - at certain places in the game, you stop running to wherever you're going, then do a /smoke - and then just admire the scenery with an odd feeling of "warm fuzzy glow" inside you...

Like at: The Party Tree - Bag End - Hobbiton - Tom Bombadil's house - when you find Goldberry - When you first see Weathertop - When you first see The Prancing Pony Inn - Duilond - Various farms in the Bree Fields - Rivendell... etc

Quite a big portion of my time is spent just standing there, packing a bowl full of Longbottom Leaf, smoking and just staring at the game.  I've never done this with any other MMO before (and I've played a few) - the only games I can compare this phenomenon to is Morrowind and Oblivion. I mean, it's an MMO - I should be questing and grinding and slaughtering various species of animal and evil humanoid.... well, I do that inbetween admiring the scenery... but damn, the game is often a thing of beauty.

Not to sound like a complete fanboi or anything...

Don't worry - I'll try to find stuff to complain about in my next post or something.

The water graphics do this for me.  Whenever I come upon a lake or river, I stop and admire the scenery.

I agree also with the water effects.  To me, they are incredible.  Also, the sky can do it to me at certain times.  Cloudy sunrise in Bree-Land comes to mind.

I really miss the rain effects.  The larger storms, with the heavy downpours, lightning cracking in the background, water bouncing off your character... Couldn't see more than 100 yards or so.  It was the coolest weather effect in any game, can't wait til they turn them back on.

I find myself doing that all the time....staring out over buckland, near weathertop, chillling out with Strider at the PP....just wait until we get to see things like the Argonath, Helm's Deep, Minas Tirith, and the Black Gate. Can you imagine stopping for a smoke at Orthanc?

Good news then: the rain has been deliberately switched off in the open beta (early access if you like). It will be switched back after the kickoff :))

Last evening in fact. Our guild hosted our first of what we hope to be monthly music concerts on Gladden.  While we gave short notice, we still managed to have about 4 musicans show up along with 20 or 30 spectators who sat around the stage near Tookville and listed to the performers.  (Special thanks to my guildmate Ritek who carried the show with his excellent songs)

I sat there clapping with the muscians, smoking my pipe and generally goofing around with some of the other onlookers.  It was only for about an hour, but it was a very good time..... I hope our next one draws an even bigger crowd.  (we want to make it a "battle of the bands" style competition one day)

And everytime I catch the moon following me in the water, or see my shadow accurately cast itself down ledges and stairways I am always impressed with the effects...(although we always seem to have a full moon, would be nice if it had some phases)

Ahh Kyleran, that sounds like it was an awesome event. I've not experienced a player event like that yet, but I'm sure once I find my way into a good Kinship, the possibility will definitely be there.

My favourite place of all that I have ventured to, has to be Rivendell. I haven't yet seen that level of artwork and sheer beauty in any game before, let alone an MMO. If you haven't visited it yet - go - it's a real treat. Just follow the long road east of Bree - keep going all the way through the Lone Lands and the Trollshaws. It's well worth the long weary journey - remember to start at dawn though - you need to see that place in daylight! It really is breathtaking.
