COH...L2 or FFXI?

I am currently playing FFXI and find that the level grind is becoming almost unbearable.  I have looked at both COH and L2 (read info and visited forums, etc.)  Basically I would like to hear what you guys/girls have to say about which of the three (FFXI, COH or L2) is the best came currently (especially if you've played all three to date, including beta).  Thanks in advance!

PS I will be only playing about 15-20 hours per week

Unless you want to grind I would avoid L2. The end game looked like it was very promising, but I'm a caual gamer and unless i picked the perfect class the first time i would have been disappointed.

I hear COH is really good but I've only played L2.

I would say L2 by far..

first off, CoH grind is TERRIBLE!

and not to mention..no money = no armor = no weps = no fun.

    I'm not sure about FFXI

but L2 is great after level 20...

How can anyone who has played any other MMORPG call CoH's grind terrible? First off, CoH doesn't start you off killing rats, you start right off killing bad guys. Second, you can quest most of the way up. Sure, the quests mostly involve killing bad guys (as do quests in most other games), but at least there is a great and continuing story there.

To sum it up, any grind in CoH is strictly in the mind of the player.

Very glad to hear it put that way.  I've played FFXI, and I won't play a game with as little character appearance customization as I hear L2 has, so my vote's with CoH.  I'd heard there's nothing to do but fight and gain strength, but c'mon, if they actually do something with that, unlike other storyline-less (or poor storylined,) games where you simply whack the same mobs over and over, who cares?

If he can't stand the level grind in FFXI, L2 would not be a good choice for a game to buy. In L2, the game gets extremely boring, extremely fast. I never reached level 20 because the level grind was just too much for me.

Uhh....Lets see, killing low level gangsters, killing rats.....Any difference? No, besides graphically. You make absolute no sense, rats/bad guys, same thing, different graphics. And quests=repetitve crap that all it is, is, more grinding, kill bad guys, thats it. Experience for completion as well is horrid.

Story.....Never found one, maybe would of had to reach lvl 30 to see it, but other then that, nope.

Every game has a grind, and this game all you do is grind. Nor can you ever even buy better loot or whatnot. Its just kill thousands of bad guys for what? So you can get higher level, stronger powers, so you can uh....Kill more powerful bad guys with more damaging powers. Game is extremely shallow.

Level grind of l2 is extremely painfully boring, but, end game looks awesome, so overall i'd go with that.

ok..lol CoH grind is terrible, but you like lineage 2??? no offense man but you are either nuts or never got to lvl 25+ yet. (disclaimer:lvl 25 is not high lvl, 75 is max right now, highest players atm are around 50-55 i think)

i think CoH is the best way for you to go right now, no it doesnt have money-armor-weps, but if you look at it one way, lineage 2 has all that stuff, and the duping/exploiting/ebaying madness of that stuff has already destroyed the game balance and economy, before retail even started.
sure you can still have fun if thats your kind of game, but you will never win a siege/own a castle/ be tops on the game becasue there are clans where the entire clan have best items and 50 million in the bank, and items are everyting in this game.

I think FFXI and L2 needs to be combined because if you edit the skins and models they are the exact same thing. However, Sad to say, Lineage II's grind is a little bit faster than FFXI. LOL

Do yourself a favor and get City of Heroes and throw Lineage 2 and FFXI out of your mind. Go spend your fifty dollars on a few dozen big macs or something.

CoH combat system is way more fun and more strategies in using skills than Lineage2. Well FFXI is a disgrace to the Fianl Fantasy series.

    Lineage 2...

it doesnt work for some people but for some reason its just perfect for me...

1st off im a huge fan of Korean MMORPG's and would choose one over an American MMORPG any day... Korean MMO's seem to go for quality over quantity and i've been raised on these...

being a fan of Korean MMO's im dont really care too much about character customization, and dont mind level grinding if needed...

however i love PvP and it doesnt get much better then in Lineage 2... also since in most games i play, i end up being one of the so called "hardcores" and therefore love having tons of end-game content so when i do get uber high level, i wont get bored...

for the people saying Lineage 2 is a horrible game, its not that... its simply for a different market... most people i see complaining about Lineage 2, are doing so because they were raised on American MMORPG's (UO, EQ, SB, AO, AC...). the difference between Korean MMORPG's and American MMORPG's is huge...

American MMORPG's tend to have more character customization, and a low level cap or hardly any grinding, while Korean MMORPG's tend to have less customization, more PvP, bigger grinds (good for power gamers like me) and other stuff the average American player isnt used to or simply wouldnt be interested in (which would explain why american MMORPG's flop in Korea, and Korean MMORPG's flop in America... 2 completely different markets looking for completely different things...)

u may not enjoy it but for people who are used to Korean MMORPG's and dont mind actually working for their levels, its a great game...

im gonna have to vote on Lineage 2... although CoH is also a great game so that would have to come in 2nd...

Well not gonna say which is better or worse.

I just noticed you said you only have 20hrs a week to play.To me this pretty much spells CoH.

From the 3 listed CoH is the easiest to level with.Anyone telling you L2 is easier is just plain biased.

You are right BigPeeler. Lineage2 is for the asian gamers, mainly Korean and Taiwanese. Most American might not like it.  American, European, and Asian, all like different style of game. Asian love the grindind and PvP. American like the charactor customization because they like to look different to show their personality; US also like more complex combat system and skills tree with some strategies. Where Asian like the combat system to be simple with a long grind to show their dedication.

Not to argue, but I'm an American who desperately loves character customization, somewhat to show my personality, but also because I'm an artist and design is a big part of my hobbies as well as my work, and I find a lot of the US games have hardly enough character customization to speak of.  The only games where you actually do appear unique enough for my picky tastes and still look cool are CoH, which we all know about, and the now dead Shining Lore, a Korean MMORPG that NC Soft killed off.

not trying to flame you here, but what is so great about lineage pvp??

for those that dont know, these are the facts about it.

-Everyones name starts out white. if you strike someone whose name is white, your name will go purple, for 40 seconds. if you strike the purple guy back, your name will go purple for 20 seconds from last hit.
If you kill a guy with a purple name, your name will go white again after that ^ amount of time, no penalty. This makes it so you have no option but to stand there and die if you want the guy to suffer for grief pk'ing you. If you fight back and die, he's off scott free.

-if you kill someone whose name is white, you will go red. This means they did not fight you back. Once you are red, everyone and anyone will be out to kill you, until you work off your 'karma' by killing monsters. But white players atacking a red, will remeain white. So once you are red, defending yourself puts you in a bigger and bigger hole(karma) if you defend yourself and win.

-Once your name is red, you have a much better chance of dropping your items on death, so yes you will be hunted relentlessly

-You can kill any lvl player as well. At the end of beta, a freind of mine had a lvl 42 archer, and in one day went around killing all newbies in 3 differnt starter towns,im talking lvl 1-5 players as well. Ended up with over 300 kills(also lost all his items by the end of the day)

Those points above, make for a stupid system, and for this reason, there is practicly NO pvp in this game once you are out of the newbie zone, and the pvp in that zone is 99% people making throw away characters and having some griefing fun.

Once again, there is practicly no pvp in this game at all, the only you will see is possible some guilds who gang people coming to thier hutning spot, because they have enough people around the reds can work off thier karma.

Tell me, what is so great about this? The sieges? I'm quite sure you haven't been involved in one yet, so how can you say? And they better be pretty dam good, sicne they have to be pre-scheduled at what was it? 2 weeks intervals?

I'm not saying the game sux(ok yes i am) I'm saying the pvp in the game is terrible in newbie zones, although there is not alot of it, and nonexistant once you are over lvl 15.

    BTW:

Regardless of which one you buy both games are being published by NCSoft anyway. But do yourself a favor and buy CoH you masochist you.

Well, I would say Final Fantasy XI, because it is not the easiest game ever. You must have a party to level (after the first few levels) plus the job system is awesome. Final Fantasy is what I suggest.

Yup, with FFXI, you MUST party after like lvl 10 or so. No way to progress at a decent lvl in the game after that.

and thats a good thing image... i think its total bullshit when an MMORPG forces u into parties... its like Priston Tale (which was a lame game to begin with...)

i remember i had a 5x pikeman on there but there was absolutely no freaking way to get a descent amount of XP a day without being in a perfectly balanced party and those werent always the easiest thing to put together...

I'd have to go with none of the above.  They all are simply wack-a-mole.  MMORPGs need to develope community.  None of these games really encourage that.  DAoC's main strength is that communities of players make the game more enjoyable, and successful.  These current games have kind of missed that dynamic.  They are fun... as games go... but they aren't true to the genre.  L2 doesn't even have a seperate chat window, or a way to /ignore idiots you wished weren't in the game.  It's pretty much kill mob after mob.  There's not even any real choice to make in equipment.  Get the best you can use.  It's clear.  CoH has a design flaw in that there is no progress.  You gain experience, but no new goals, or ambitions.  There is no economy, community... nothing.  You log on and kill mobs.  You get better and kill better mobs.

I really hope future games do more than these games have.

Thanks for all the answers people.  I chose to go with CoH and am enjoying it so far.  I do miss the fantasy gaming a little bit, but I figure that I will keep FFXI and play CoH that way when I get tired of the grind I can play CoH and when I need my fantasy fix I can play FFXI.

I will be playing WoW when it is released so I guess one of the other games will have to go at that time.

I would say go with COH.

    - There is a grind, but the Combat system is so action oriented it feels more like an action game than a mmorpg.

    - The storyline is great if you go ahead and read all the things about the missions and contacts, you can really get into it.

    - The character creation is the best i have ever seen, you can really sit there and make a character for 30 mins.

    - My opinion is this COH>FFXI>L2
