I'm just wondering how many of you on here think there will be a 2nd WoW expansion? Do you think after the Black Temple patch that the game will stop and call it a day or will it carry on going?
There probably will be an expension with Northrend in it. Can't wait to see that, but by the time that comes out I think I've switched to Warhammer online: Age of Reckoning. It would be fun to fight Arthas though and travel all the way through the mountain crypts like he did.
Blizzard in no way is gonna call it the day after the Black Temple, Blizz has several expansions in mind I am sure. The question is, how long will it take them to put out another. 2 1/2 years to put out TBC is a joke considering how small it was overall. In the long run I believe their failure to put out new content faster will hurt them, allthought they could lose 90% of their current player base and still be doing great....so WoW is gonna be around for a long time IMO
WoW is has a very long term plan. In one of the dev interviews they said the time frame for the game is something around 20 years. To be honest I think they have some big surprises in store. BIG. I would not at ALL be surprised to see Diablo 3 and WoW mix somehow or maybe even World of Diablo mixing in with it.
If not that I really expect the next expansion to introduce something fresh. Even if you hate blizzard they do listen to their customers. Everyone asked for smaller raid content and they delivered. More casual stuff, they are delivering that with casual rep quests. I just know they will pull something off.

so where in the 20 year plan was TBC originally located? "hey, if someone is going to come out with something that might pull subs, let's throw this out real quick" ?
could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?
yeah I'm sure that Blizzard will mix the diablo and warcraft universe together...yeah thats not stupid at all...
I'm pretty sure they have thrown lore out the window. And I didn't mean REALLY combining them. I'm just trying to guess Blizzards next move, as dumb as it sounds. But I have seen stranger stuff happen.

I really hope blizzard introduces something with a little more depth within the next 20 years..

I've been trying to find the interview, but no luck so far. It was around TBC release. I'll keep looking, but they know the customer base is getting bored with the game, at least I hope they see that.
I played WoW for 14 months, ran several characters up to the cap, then burned out, and then took a 1 year sabbatical (from the game) and who is now back playing on a very casual basis with the wife (started with new characters), I would like to see a Blizzard move the fantasy MMO genre forward by introducing some innovative features, like emphasis on casual group play, and a dynamic environment, with the focus on exploration. If any MMO publisher has the ability it would be Blizzard who is rolling in dough and has quite a track record of producing quality games.
I really dislike the change of pace from the leveling-WoW to the end-game WoW. It's a completely different game and it's why I quit the first time. Granted I've not played the expansion but I've been told and read that game-play is more of the same. New terrain but no innovation to speak of. This is a big disappointment. Maybe Blizzard does not feel the need to innovate with the amount of cash flowing in. But if they don't take the outstanding opportunity to move the genre forward, then MMO subscriptions should and will go to companies that do innovate.
Two examples I can thinkg of- I have reached a point where I really dislike the way WoW mobs partrol- for a change look at Saga of Ryzom which has outstanding animal A.I. where the animals are not on tracks and react to you and display herding actions.
Read the plans for GW2, which despite being a good ways off in the distance, the develop is looking at features such as: - a dynamic environment that changes based on player actions along with dynamic group events. - Mentor feature to allow someone 10 or more levels below you to accompany you on quests by giving the lower level player extra life, stamina, etc. - going to a mix of open and instanced questing space- it shows they are adaptive. I don't like GW in it's current state of 100% instanced questing space. - adding NPCs to your party. - The PC Gamer article, although I know they are a hype-machine, made it sound like everything was on the table over there.
Look at the disappointments of DDO and VG. As MMO players get more and more XP, the status quo will not suffice.

... you can be sure they will announce the new expansion at Blizzcon this year in August, together with either Starcraft 2/some starcraft game or Diablo 3/some diablo game.... or if we lucky.... both.

According to "Unnamed Sources" (I've seen it myself)
Blizzard has already began to include Northerend items and buildings in them. They look pretty nice for those of you who also have those capabilities. These items will be in the expansion_02 directory of the mpqs and have prefixes of northerend_

I went through every WoW MPQ and couldn't even find an Expansion 2 folder, let alone any northrend_ pre-scripts.
Either way, Blizzard already announced they have a new project that isn't WoW related (which I think might be unveiled at Blizzcon this year, which would rock) so i'm sure that will take a lot of creative juices.
Also, they should already be (and probably have been) working on a new expansion, now that they know the potential of WoW expansions (biggest debut sale day ever people?)
Going in accordance with level building and overall power, factoring in lore the next expansion would be Nazjatar + Undermine with all the other islands. Then probably the emerald dream in some form, maybe a dragon expansion featuring grim batol and places alike. Then of course Northrend.. frost crown, nerubian city, malygos. Then i dont really know off world trips fighting the true leaders of the burning legion... who knows. But i wouldn't expect northrend in the next expansion.
I saw the Northrend stuff to. I am pretty sure that's Blizzard being Blizzard and throwing us off. They are to smart to let stuff like that slip, unless they have in the past and I missed it. (Please tell me!)
LOL @ at warcraft/diablo's Lore fusion.... that's like the most stupid idea i've ever read.
Regarding how long Blizzard will sustain WoW, LOL again - as long as they are making money with it and they do not see any contender on the horizon, they'll pump out content to try and keep the player base.
As far as saying it took them 2 years to make TBC, LOL LOL LOL again! Ive' played wow on and off for 2 years and i've never seen anyone complain about it, players were just happy with rerolling on new servers, doing some PvP and trying to beat successively BWL, AQ...
If any proof is necessary, susbscription constantly augmented during that 2 years period.
Imo the only games that might scare Blizzard are Lineage 3 for Asia and WAR for Europe, and they'll react accordingly : either upgrading the wow graphic engine and introducing RvR, or developping a Starcraft MMO.

First rule of capitalism: whatever the market will bear.
If you buy it, they will build it. It's as simple as that.
