HI , im also a VG player who started to give LOTRO a go. The game world is no where near as big as vanguard's. Its supposedly 60% of WOW's. In june tho theres a new content patch, in which a new area area of Eriador will be opened up. I expect that in time we will see quite a few of these free content patches. Also in expansions we will see the rest of middle earth opened up. Also, yes there are many people on the servers. Hope this has helped.
The servers seem fairly well populated in late beta, although not over-populated. I'm not sure how this will change in release. A lot of games have more people playing once the boxes hit the shelves than in beta.
I think the answers are: plenty big enough; it may not get WoW numbers but a smooth launch so far coupled with excellent reviews and mostly positive feedback from a fairly long period without an NDA mean that queues going to be a bigger issue than finding a group. Will they last - how many have the lifetime or 6 month membership I wonder.
And a stable launch with very few bugs means they have (and have had) time to work on extra content to grab further headlines. Ahh, Turbine learnt a lot from DDO I suspect.
Does it mean you will like it? No - but you may still be able to find a pre-order in a shop. Cut off for the subsequent special signups is the 29th. (And if you do make sure you put t he pre-order code in first).
Actually you have until the 29th of may to enter a pre order code before you retail key. In order to get the founder pricing for subs. You just can't buy the pre order after the 24th anymore. So if you can find one or know someone who has an extra pre order code get it or do whatever that person wants to get the pre order code from the. Well anything with in reason no game is worth compromising ones dignity over. The 29th of this month is for NA pre orders. We have a grace period of 5 days to enter our retail key were we get to keep playing the game. They did this cause they figured not everyone was going to get their retail key on the 24th. I believe they gave the Australians and New zeland people an even longer grace period cause of shipping problems.
I am former VG player myself and currently I greatly enjoy LOTRO - already was in beta. LOTRO is something you play with a totally different approach. It has really things to unveil, so to speak. There are so many interesting small things to see and do, you just dont feel in such a power game-rush as in VG. They have so many small "feel-good" gratifications and goals for short, mid and long term to keep you looking out for things. In LOTRO you can really enjoy the way to your goals and they found some very elegant ways to make the grind all MMOs have less boring. I cant delve into the detais, read the Eurogamer review, it gives out a lot of detail.
I think LOTRO is pretty enjoyable for many reasons. What good was the VG size, when 90% was devoid of lore, stories and animation?? LOTRO has a smaller world, yes, but what is already there, is much more detailled and interesting to explore and ALL of Telon together IMO.
