Hi,

I am in the UK but i downloaded the open beta from www.lotro.com/openbeta

If you pre-ordered the game you will be able to continue playing your character.  If you did not.  then no.

You seem to have in fact downloaded the US version. Not sure if there is still time to enter the EU beta, the EU site is here: http://www.lotro-europe.com/

There is no way for your US characters to be transfered to the EU servers though, so if you've been leveling up on the US servers, you would have to pre-order and play on the US servers to keep those characters. :(

Good question!  Are the EU servers the same as the US servers?  My guess is that if you are currently on the US servers and you want to keep your characters [you must have preordered to do that, anyway]; you will have to buy a US retail version and just enter that code.  If you're going to play on the EU servers and don't have a character there yet - make one! You can catch up to the level cap in 8-10hrs [less if you can fellowship with someone who knows the quests]. As a casual player [15hr/wk max], playing since Preorder beta started 30 Mar, I have 5 level 14+ and 3 level 10-14 characters on different servers - you will not be that far behind if you get started ASAP.

Everyone getting to keep their Beta characters is one of the reasons that pursuaded me not to get this game.  The Beta was very fun and I'd recommend this game but when you give that many people a head start in the game just to guarantee some profit it totally underminds everything.  Beta are supposed to be about testing, and that's it.  It's not supposed to be about getting a head start or laying down a foundation for when everyone else gets the game.

It's just not a good sign of things to come...  That is why I chose to duck out early before I blow 200 bucks on a lifetime membership.  If I get massively bored I may get the game but I'm going to keep my eye on it and see what decisions are made before I give it another chance.

The US version has a level 15 cap, which only takes a few hours. I've never really been concerned with people "getting ahead" of me in an MMO. It's not a race.

Those who get to 50 first also get the longest time of waiting for others to hit 50 so that they can actually do stuff which always kinda sucks. Waiting drives me crazy, and this wait for release is just so horrible! Why can't it be out already! I can't wait 11 more hours!

True, but the real advantage they have is not level, but everything else.  They've spent the last few weeks amassing piles of cash, getting tradeskills to master level, and accumulating various high level traits for their characters by doing "deeds".  So while the level disparity will not be great, these characters have significant other advantages beyond level over people who are just starting on release.

Also, it will be slightly more than 15 levels, because many people have a level or two of quests completed that they will turn in once the cap is released and level a few times just from these turn-ins (one person I know has 40 completed quests waiting to be turned in).

Im still on the fence about buying the game, I preordered and canceled due to crashing every 5 minutes. I have since fixed the problem, but Im still not 100% sure I want to continue on. Ive searched in vain to find a Kinship that suits me, but have come up empty handed.

If I do decide to play I will start over on a fresh server, if some are coming out with the release. I could care less if I lose the gold I have made on Firefoot thus far. The fun was being able to play and get a feel for the game.

    Family man first, Gamer second!

Again, it's not so much the fact that players are getting ahead of me.  That's going to happen no matter what.  It's mostly the fact that the developers are pushing people to do so just to get sales.  I am not sure if I want to join a game when the people in charge make decisions that I do not completely agree with.  I'm not delusional and I don't think they are complete sellouts but now I am going to keep an eye on the game and see what direction they plan on taking it.  Just be weary of what is going on.
