I just found out that PC vendors will not be in AoC. This is a pretty big blow to me since I was looking to run my own shop. I'm also pretty shocked to see quite a bit of support from the community for auction houses instead of player run vendors at the AoC site forums. I really hope this isnt a trend leaning toward a simplified MMO. Dont get me wrong, this isn't a deal breaker for me yet and I will still be trying this game. I am just disappointed that I won't be able to have my own shop. I also read a rumor that there will be no item decay/repair as well.

well im not really persuaded either way, AHs have good points and PCVs have good points
either way i can play the economy and make money, but through different means
(my favorite part of MMOs )
Well, I was really hoping to start a business. Without player run vendors or item decay, crafters will become nothing more than guild grindbots. Yes, money can be made with an AH system but it's boring and lacks depth imho. Why even visit player run cities if there is no commerce there? So players will create cities simply just to defend it from other players and npcs.
Crafting is important to any online game except WoW, lol.
I hope crafters will thrive if not looting games get old real fast SWG NGE boring.

Of course that's ambigious enough that we dont know what it means. It doesnt say a single thing about them being player vendors at all. It could mean that if you put up a Blacksmith, eventually an NPC blacksmith might show up that sells basic goods. It could mean that as your city gets larger, caravans will go there and set up their NPC vendors too.
No hard definition on exactly what that will mean.
And it could mean that npc vendors in cities are what the players use to access the global auction house. Click on them to open the global menu / list.
Global auction features and lack of item decay / loss / destruction are features of games that don't have any interest in having a functioning economy. Those features only make sense for rat-race, loot whoring, item escalation games. Games where yesterdays oober sword is todays paperweight and quick, convenient global trades are necessary because nobody wants to stop running the rat-race for a few minutes to go look through shops or stand around haggling prices with real live people.
Q+A with Game Developers:
Q: Does the game feature crafting? If so, will crafting offer better armor and weapons and such than players can find? Will players be able to take on the role of a crafter as opposed to an adventurer?
Gaute: “Yes, the game will feature crafting. It is not true to say that the items crafted will always be better than what the players can find through quests or from monsters. The items crafted will have a very special value, they are flexible. This special role is only held by crafted items. The player-made equipment (armor, jewelry or weapons) will have so called “gem-slots” where players can upgrade their equipment to suit any particular situation.”
“If a monster requires a special type of specialized gear, crafted gear is the way to go. This option, of flexibility and adaptability, leave the players with less irritation. The player made gear will not have to compete with equipment from other situations, but rather let the various methods fill different roles.
“In addition to normal gear, the players can make potions, siege weapons or even buildings. The raw-material for crafting will be found in the specialized ‘Resource and Building’ regions. These are larger, more dynamic areas focused around player interaction and building.
“It will not be possible for a player to only be a crafter. Though we do have an additional crafting leveling system (20 crafting levels) these are not available to the player until level 40 adventuring level, as you get access to your crafting abilities through your prestige / social class. Having said that, our level curve up to level 40 is very casual friendly, and even your mom will be able to get there.”
Its what i read here when I decided that i'll play Gemcutter, Just think of all those player with plain weponry! What a market! Plus it kinda sounds like where the raw materials are found are a fun area.
