Female gamers? We are being decieved!

in The Pub at MMORPG.COM

I have played MMO's for around 10 years, I got gotten to know alot of good people on these games...  And alot of bad people...  But what gets to me is all these 'FEMALE' characters running around claiming they are female in real life.  And everytime these people are put to the test, they fail.  They'll avoid pictures, voice chat, and so on.  Increasing the likely hood that these people are decievers, which is not nice.

And still to this day I am convinced that females do not play these games, or they do in such a minority the likely hood of ever coming in contact with one will be minimal.  So the odds are, if one of these 'so called RL females' say they 'are' female they are more than likely decieving you.

Pure deception...  I suppose it's one of those things that can't be stopped.  Like RMT's...

    well, every guild i have been in has had between three and ten husband / wife couples..... do with that information what you will.

    You and a lot of guys like you make it such an issue if I was a girl id be fking scared to be pounced everytime some1 finds out that i was a girl. Also some of these girls have boyfriends which wont allow them on vent because they know how people like you think.

    I've seen a lot of hitting on and honestly games arent the place for that.

    girl or not its shouldnt matter. And also if you fking losers would stop giving free stuff to these fake girls there wouldnt be any.

    Girl or not in an mmorpg should not be an issue as you are playing a character.

    We play these games but some of us stick to male toons to avoid Male harrassment.  Granted its  nice that you all seem so overly generous but you all can be highly annoying thinking you need to baby us.  Hell some of my worst opponents have been other females in these games.  We're here we just want to play the game most of us aren't looking for some gamer guy to hit on us, some of us are married and prefer not to have jealous husbands causing problems (which has happened to a few female gamers I know, hubby got all jealous they were 'meeting' someone else which wasn't true). 

    Plus ever think the reason the people you've experienced saying they're a woman don't want to show their face or hide their voice is they don't like you enough to wanna share it?   Or they don't trust that you're really a female.. *eyes your bio suspiciously*  I'm just highly more supicious of people in games asking for RL stuff and i hate the she's so girly comments when I've used Vent. 

    The point of the game is to take on a toon and play a game not get mac'd on.   Who cares if the female toon is really a female toon unless you've been purposely lead on in some romantic fashion I think this post is highly ... well just come on who cares?

    There are plenty of female gamers but at least for MMO's the population is predominately male.



    I think its a pretty poor arguement to base it on players avoiding pictures and voice chat.  Why would many gamers want to send their picture to someone?  Female gamers generally have enough trouble with getting unwanted attention in MMO's, doing either of those things would greatly increase it.



    I dont really know why it matters anyways, I dont play video games to try to meet some women, it doesnt really matter which gender the people I am playing with are.

    Edit: yeah I don't deny it, wasn't married than so back in the day I would apply makeup and get all purrrty just for the camera lol.

    That is because chances are good that the guy avatar standing next to you is a female in real life.  They don't like to be bothered in games by pervs.  So, to avoid the attention, they hide as male avatars.  Can you blame them?  For the record, in my old Whisperwind guild with 350+ member, we have over 50 real life females.  If you get into a guild made up of your real life friends, you will more than like run into a lot more female gamers.

    If you are a decent guy and looking for a female gamer to be that special someone in your life, I recommend looking into a on-line match making service like eharmony or something.   Just remember, be honest with the whole process or it will be a waste of time and money.

    I'll say that I'm a female gamer, but I have no intention of making a string of threads that try to convince you. I met my fiance on EQ which was 8 years ago as did many others. It is just as easy to prove that women are in the game now as it was then. Many gamers got together at conventions and events and met these female gamers irl. There was even a publicized EQ wedding in the news if I recall correctly. There have also been many articles on how damaging a mmorpg can be to marriages and families. My female friend in game divorced her husband for another gamer and left her family to be with him. Yes, she sent pictures. I think the myth that women do not game has been busted multiple times. There ARE female gamers, there are female devs and guides and designers, etc...



    On the other end of the spectrum, there are men who use female toons to deceive men into giving them in game items. I had a male friend whose ingame toon married. He had even started developing feelings for his ingame spouse even though others warned him that it was a guy. He did eventually find out the truth that in fact she was really a he. The guy took all his stuff and fled. People will believe what they want to believe. If a female toon won't divulge her information then maybe she really is a guy or maybe she doesn't trust people on the internet. Just let it go and keep gaming.

    lol it is so wrong when guys even girls use men to get their way, but funny in a sense. You never know who you can really trust. I think the convention idea is best, you can meet tons of people there and be sure of who you are talking to.

    Actually thats not proof of anything.  See my daughter and wife do play diffrent games. My wife learned some time ago (and taught my daughter) that there is no reasion to verify their gender. See when my wife would use teamspeak durring a game, she would constantly get private messages asking if she would like to cyber. After a few of these messages my daughter also stopped using teamspeak or verifing her gender.

     

    The bottom line is that both of them just want to play without being harrassed by pervs.  What does it matter what the real gender of a player is as long as they are playing. If you actaully intrested in conversing with females then I suggest a dating service.

     

    PS: My daughter once asked me why I will create a femail avatar using my wife's RL nick on RPGs but on games with out Avatars I only use male names.   The answer,: if I have to spend hours looking at some ones butt  it's going to be your mom's cute one. Well that and I also get to make her do what I want for a change.

    There are females that play MMO's. My wife and I were in a very nice (but small guild). Four of the 10 member guild were women. They were married to other guild members, and we did speak with them on voice chat, and did exchange real email and photos.

    As a rule, if I don't already know them, have talked to them on voice, I assume that a female avatar is actually a male that thinks of women as objests or a male that would like to be female.

    I agree that women may not want to communicate to avoid online harrasment.

    The best rule is to be polite to evreyone, and if someone is being a jerk, use /ignore.

    pfft just assume the sex of the person avatar.  I like it because it annoys everyone that knows otherwise, I even go by the sex of the character when I know otherwise.



    you can get the person into some amusing situations when you say and prove-ish that you know the person in real life or have know them for  a while

    I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.

    In the crapy Free to Play "Scions of Fate"(Yulgang) game. They found a sneaky way to keep you the same gender as your true self. The same gender you register with on the website with your account(which cannot be changed later) is the only gender you can choose ingame. Pretty sneaky eh?

    so.. looking at your profile, your a girl who has been playing mmos since you were 9 and you dont think girls play games?

    wtf lol?

    Im quite open about being female, and use TS etc so no hiding there. 

    The freaks that think you are public property/gagging for it cos you are a female gamer hit ignore pretty fast and tbh if someone is going  round asking if there are any girls online dont get time of day from me.  If you fall into any of those catagories im not surprised you think female gamers are a myth but I find that once other people know im a girl, I tend to find a few girl gamers 'admit' the deep dark dark secret - they exist!

    Im with most of the people on this thread though, what does it matter if a player is a girl or guy, go off the character and grow up.  If idiots want to give away their stuff, then fine, do it, I play my own game and if a female avi is accepting twinks 99% guaranteed its a rl guy making a female for that purpose with the rl girls not wanting the patronising twinking and winking :P

    Yeah I have to admit it's true, but if they are avoiding webcams and stuff it's very likely they're just men trying to trick you, I've met several female gamers and I've met female roleplayers on a forum who I've seen roleplaying as guys! (too many RL girls on the forum! :P) I'm actually planning on moving to where they all live because I have such great friends there which of course include some guys that are on the forum. You just need to stop being dumb about how you go communicating with people over the internet, don't give out your personal details right away if you don't think they're trustworthy, or for that matter get into a webcam conversation if they do seem friendly so you know they're just not some wierdo's trying to take you for a ride. It's just a simple matter of common sense really.

    Quoting people doesn't make you clever, in fact, it makes you all the more stupid for not bothering to read the quotes you post in the first place.

    I play games with my girlfriend all the time, and I mean all the time. It's our hobby. So I promise you girls do play games. As for "omg picz or ur not a gurl", why should they have to prove it? 10 to 1 they don't really care if you think they are  a girl or not.

    For someone that has been playing MMO's for 10 years you sure do have a narrow minded view lol . My wife plays mmo's but she doesn't feel comfortable sending her pic out there to people whom she doesn't really know. Oh no she's deceiving you /gasps ! You say you are convinced that female gamers do not play these games wtf lol ....?? I am in a clan in Lineage 2 and in fact there are a lot of female gamers on our Alliance a lot of husband and wife teams =)



    However with every female character I meet,  I am not about to start asking them to prove if they are females or not :P Really I couldn't care less as long as people don't harass me.  And why should anyone have to prove  if they are male/female or whatever?

    Seriously though, these are ROLE PLAYING games. Some guys like to play female characters, and some gals like to play male characters. If people are looking for a relationship outside of the game then maybe Match.com would be a better way to spend their time. Why get hung up on what they are/aren't in real life?

    My wife also plays MMO's, and so does my mother-in-law.  I can't see where someone would really be concerned about another person's sexuality unless they are either insecure in their own sexuality or they are (sadly enough) trying to meet someone within the game.  If the person really wants to meet someone who games, i'd suggest going to the gaming conventions or finding out who lives in their local area and is having a party.  Meeting someone online in an MMO, though it does happen, is much less likely than meeting someone at your local grocery store.  Personally, I play female characters often, but not exclusively and I don't think there is anything wrong with guys playing females and not revealing that they are guys, but then I'm not trying to pick them up either.  I dodge the questions of if i'm male or female as well, but mostly because I don't really care if the other guy or gal knows what gender I am....quite frankly it's none of your business.  Currently my wife and my daughter and I are all pretty much playing WoW and we're all playing females too.

    welp there are female players. my wife plays eq 2 with me, and she also played wow when i played that. There is also a chick at work that playes wow. If you got sucked in by some guys that pretended to be a woman and gave him/her everything you own that sucks dude. Dont be so gulliable(sp?) giving a girl something in game isnt going to get you a date. Since alot of gamers think it will is why alot of (but not all) men play female characters

    And to be honest why do female gamers have to provide you with pics of them to prove to you that they are female? they dont owe you proof of anything.If i was female i wouldnt want to give out pics of myself to random jagoffs on the web either
