Why not? My troll mage was great at pve/raids. Beserking decreases cast time, enough so that when a rogue gets close i freeze him-beserk-pyro blast his stealthy buttocks.
Troll racials were buffed around 1.5. Before then they were useless.
Class forums still lean toward UD for mage and priest.
