not often? Almost every MMORPG reaches number 1 shortly after release, because its just released and has little votes. Even Space Cowboys reached number 1 after release.

The first 24 hours will probably be the most accurate ratings from people who actually play the game. Once enough low balls like LordSlater log in to give it all zeros, the numbers will go down quite a bit. (He admits as much in his Hype).
There always will be petty people who will subvert any effort to get a real rating on a site like this. I love the game, but did not give it all tens, I was honest with how I rated it. Unfortunately, dishonest zeros have a disproportianately high impact on the ratings. (Ironically, the better the game, the more the zeros will skew the honest numbers).

You are of course quite wrong as not only has LOTRO gone down in thee overall rating but EVERY other game on the game list has gone up too. I dont know why but when a new game sucha s space cowboy comes online it goes right to the top and ecvery other game goes down the list and loses tons of Points.

I dont hate it but considering what it is at right now i dont think it deserves a rtating over 7. When its seasoned a bit ill reevaluate but till then......
Well, I beta tested for a few months and then played open beta the whole time.
As of right now I'd rate this game extremely high. In the 9's across the board (even higher for some areas)
I've been gaming online since MUD's in the early 90's. Jumped onboard with graphical MMO's when M59 hit the scene and then on to UO when it released and by EQ1 and AC1 I knew I was hooked for life. Since those days, I have played every mainstream mmorpg to date. Some for years straight, some for only a day or two before I knew I was done.
With LotRO, I am here for the long haul
I haven't gotten even slightly bored in the past 3 months. It looks great, it sounds great and it plays great. IMO it's an absolute "must buy".

its definately going to be interesting to see whare the rating settles down at
I figure between the 8.0 and 8.3 that most of the good games out currently are settling down about. Though you will get haters who haven't even looked at screen shots or read about it "rating" these games which always pulls it down.

lol mmorpg rating is 7.8 for lotro while for other games is like 8.3
This game is actually deserving of the rank it has now, though. It really is a pollished and absolutely wonderful MMO based on everything successful and common in today's MMO market.
Its not amazingly innovative, but its a rock-hard-solid game and it is a tribute to the fans of the theme. Far better than SWG was ever to Star Wars fans.

Equal opportunity troll.
But i'm sure Dark and Light didn't race to the top.

Great game that still needs some minor adjustments such as UI improvements,Housing, more guildfluff, improved battleground and a better ingame map.
The new areas are allready beeing worked at and the first areaupdate will come in June as beeing announced today.
In time it would be nice with a few more races or classes but as for now it's a great game with room for improvement.

What happened to all the other ratings though? The top five used to be like 8.2-8.3, now all the ones under LOTRO are like 7.5.
Also, the thought that user ratings are ever accurate is silly.

How shallow do you have to be to give a damn about these ratings anyway?
