Is there ANY pvp?

I've been hearing tons of good things making me want to buy the game, but one thing I haven't heard many things about is pvp. Is it there? Is it worth playing? I have always enjoyed lvl'ing up a character and then later testing him upagainst other players. What is the whole sha-bang about the pvp on LoTrO?

Let me refraise the question sense I've gotten 31 reviews from which i hope some have played the game. It's not a hard question. All i want to know is if there is dualing/arena/run around pvp areas..... anything....

You can ask a player to spar, or you can level up to high level and play against player monsters. There is no gankfest pvp, so lamers need not apply.

That is the saddest pvp system I've ever seen in a "good" mmorpg that is up and running. I might as well stick to WoW which has SOME pvp in the game (not the best) sence the game is similar

No its quite sad because I would have payed my 15 a month if there were pvp in this game

Wow... theres no PvP!?!? How the hell did this game get so high up? I mean PvP isent a big part of why I play MMO's but its always fun to do PvP like on Guild Wars; your kind of bored of PvE and you want to compete to be the best. Well haza! You can PvP until you drop dead! Its just that a lot of ppl wont like this game becuase there is no REAL PvP. Thats one of the main reasons why I gave this game a low rating... but it does have decent graphics ill give it that.

If there is not PvP then what do you call Monster Play?  If you get a toon to lvl 10 you can automatically create a monster (up to 5 of them) and go out in the MP area and quest for ranks/skills/etc and fight against other PC Freeps (Free People = human/dwarf/elf/hobbit toons). The catch is that Freeps cannot enter into that area until they are lvl 40+.  Why? so the monsters have some time to quest and get their ranks before the Freeps start hitting the zone.  In a month or 2 there will be full blown MvP with keep raiding and questing all in the same zone.  If that is not PvP what is it that you all are looking for?  

If you are looking for being able to gank/grief people in the normal zones, then no you can't do that. But yes, this game has PvP which they call MvP as I described it above.

It seems to me that many people have misconceptions about the type of PvP that this game has. I actually think, given a chance,  it will be a great amount of fun in the coming months.  Don't let misinformation cause you to miss out. Remember just because someone responds and says there is no PvP in the game does not make it true. On the same token, just because I say it is in the game don't take my word as gospel. Go research it for yourself and see who's informed and who's not.

But, no Griefing and Ganking.

Try LotRO PvP.

I think you might be surprised at how fun it can be.
