Guild Beta Signups are UP!

www.warhammeronline.com/english/community/guildBeta/form.php

We are looking for a few good guilds to help us beta test the next big thing in RvR™ - Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning. All sorts of guilds are required, from the smallest family clan to the most dominant army. Get your application in now!

Here's how the application process will work: This form will be open from April 25 through May 4, 2007. When the form is closed, we will begin sorting guilds into categories. We are looking for a balance between major raid guilds, casual guilds, role-players, adrenaline junkies, multi-game clans, WAR fan guilds, real life friends, and family groups. We will be evaluating applications based a variety of factors, such as testing experience, quality of website, forum activity, and more. Once we've narrowed the field, we will (for the most part) choose randomly from each category.

Leaders of the chosen guilds will then receive an invite with information on where and when to sign-up for the beta, as well as authorization codes to share with their members. Actual beta testing will begin in late spring/early summer.

Please be aware that not all who apply will be able to join the test as we anticipate a huge number of applicants. For the same reason, large guilds are unlikely to receive enough beta slots for all members. Guilds that are not selected will not be contacted due to the expected volume of applicants.

Please read below before applying. There are no do-overs.

The guild im in has already signed up, now its just a question of being lucky, in which I mean being the kind of guild they want testing their game.

TBH this is a great chance for guilds to see what is available for them. It should be great fun, but obviously your going to be looking at thousands of guilds asking for the chance

I think thats why the sign up period is relatively short. Personally I found it rather interesting that beta is still planned for so early on in the development cycle. As far as we know the Elves pairing has not even been touched. Of course there can never be too much of beta testing so I hope this is an indication of the amount of time they want to spend on polish.

A special guild ONLY invite phase ?not really something new, but a very clear marker of who they are primarily targeting.

This game reminds me more and more of that dismal performer Shadowbane.

Seems to be embracing many of the same pigeon holes that doomed Shadowbane to its dismal performance.Great for people who like the specific holes embraced, and those few will probably be die hard fans and enjoy the game.

BUT not  likely to go over big with the alot of others. It will be interesting to see, how soon and how hard they feel the need to "sell" it thru marketing and thru game changes after launch, to try and get those other people who are turned off by the holes to overlook them.

But again, good for that sub group of mmo players who fit the holes. And for them i hope they have a long an enjoyable stay .

Could you expand on those pigeon holes? The huge amount of different guild types seems a good indication how broad of an appeal this game should have even if the primary focus is on PvP. Do you mean that only dedicated guilds will enjoy the game or...? Just to elaborate Im not in any guild and have never been able to find one that I really enjoyed (rather I just find people or friends I enjoy playing with) and I dont feel WAR will not appeal to me for somehow catering to guilds. Besides for Beta testing I think using guilds is an excellent idea as they are much more organised (usually/occasionally) and can better help test a wider variety of scenarios (as opposed to trying to get a bunch of individuals to try and do something).

That explains the concept and gives examples.

As for guilds being good for betatesting, id take the exact opposite stance.Far too many guilds in the past have been shown to find things in beta(or even on test servers after launch), and than keep them secret so that they can benefit from them in the game later.

In addition, guilds tend to be really nothing more than artificial clicks.Like the social groups that form with children in school settings. These clicks tend to look not to better things for everyone, but instead tend to look for ways to make things better for themselves regardless of what the effect is on others.
