Considering starting DAoC

Me and my friends are growing tired of WoW and we are looking for alternatives since WaR was moved to 2008. Now, I've tried reading the faq and probably missed the answers to some of these questions, but anyway...

1. We are a group of 5 players, this worked perfectly in WoW since most instances were 5-man (except raiding ofc.) How will this work in daoc?

2. Can you lvl in party to high lvls? or is it more efficient to solo?

3. I've read about the different server-types, and classic seems to be the best option. There was also a couple of threads about EU-servers being quite empty and filled with high lvl players only? true, false?

4. I've played WoW to the max, raiding, grinded to grand marshal (yuck!), done arena and all the guild-drama. Frankly, I've had a blast and I was wondering if DAoC really offers me anything new? skill based PvP-system would be a dream.

Thanks to anyone who bothers to answer! :)

all your research is basically true.Euros are hard-core,aussies can brake the most leet players down.Classic is code for non-ToA,which ruined daoc, toa items give casters way to much dps,so they were calling it Dark Age of Castalot.

Actual grp size is 8 max,but 5 for the core, can pick up 3.Think doac is just raining xp atm.could 50 in a few days, maybe a week at most.

Im very close to re-activating.probly be quite a few doing the same.

classic server would be the best for what ur looking for i think, u can stay in the battlegrounds all the way up and have fun PVPing while lvling.

Mobs in the battlegrounds give way moer XP then other mobs and u get a lot of XP for PVPing.

xp in daoc is way more efficent if u group and quests arnt that good for xp if that helps at all

With five people you guys will level up very fast.  Almost everything in the game can be done with a solid group (8 people).  Even in RvR 5 is a solid foundation.

It is much better to level in groups.  Pick classes that compliment each other for the best performance.

Well classic servers are not necessarily the best choice.  With five you guys would be able to get up and running on a normal server in no time.  I like the regular servers better because you have more abilities for your character and it makes RvR and PvE more interesting.  The Classic server takes away an expansion, called Trials of Atlantis.  This was a PvE heavy expansion that gave characters better gear and abilitie, but it has now been nerfed and you do not even need to pvE there anymore.  All the abilities and a lot of the items can be bought with bounty points attained through RvR.
I do not know anything about the EU servers so can't help you there.

    4. I've played WoW to the max, raiding, grinded to grand marshal (yuck!), done arena and all the guild-drama. Frankly, I've had a blast and I was wondering if DAoC really offers me anything new? skill based PvP-system would be a dream.
PvP is DAoC is the best hands down.  I don't feel any other game has managed to do team PvP so well.
Thanks to anyone who bothers to answer! :)

Any other questions feel free to ask.  I have been playing DAoC since launch.  I do not play on the classic servers though so my knowledge there is rather limited.  I play on the Devon cluster.

It's been said before, but I'll throw it out there one more time ; If you're new to DAoC, I would very highly advise rolling your characters on a classic server. Classic servers focus more on PvP, less on PvE, and greatly reduce the use of 2nd account "buff bots".

The classic server in DAoC is essentially like a WoW server without Molten Core, BWL, Karazhan, and so on so forth.

Actually with the new patch less PvE is required on regular servers than on Classic now.  All artifacts and MLs can be acquired through RvR.  Not to mention ToA has been clobbered with the nerf bat.

buff bots are still there and it makes soloing pretty hard
