Lotro #1 at Mmorpg.com Omg!111
I have never seen such a high ranking at this site.
I am reading such good stuff about this game all over the web.
i might even have to try it to be with the "in crowd".
Is this the beginning of the end of WoW dominance of mmos?
I think Blizzard has gotten pretty cocky with their reign;maybe this is a good thing....
I must get to the Hobbits.

If you haven't noticed WoW hasn't been in the top 5 for like 2 years now.
Late pass anyone?
By the way, Vanguard was #1 for like a week after it came out, let the initial fuss go away and see how LOTRO is ranked in the following weeks.
Im done with WoW and can't wait for another mmo to take over but still:
WoW > LOTRO by alot

MMORPG.coms' rankings = crap
The only reason shitty games gets ranked high here is because the ppl who are playing those games get bored and going on mmorpg.com to look for better games.
World of Warcraft is a proof that MMORPG quality should affect schedule/budget and not the other way around.
But i have never ever seen an 8.5 rank
that rank is sooo high!
I have seen all the movies and read all the books I guess it's time to
live it and make it real.
I am on my way to Best Buy right now,
and i will find out what this is all about.
Do they pay extre per exclamation point you use?
Imo, Lotro is the evidence that the only reason WoW is ranked so low is because of its popularity, which many people hate. You can't praise Lotro and and say bad things about WoW with a straigth face, Lotro ripped so many things from WoW. If you played WoW, you played Lotro.
Yeah, the ratings on this site have always been unreliable. After playing OB, reading reviews, and talking with someone who made it to level 50 during closed along with his guild, I've come to the conclusion that this game is just very, very, ok.
Most people who play even admit it. It does almost nothing better than WoW, yet WoW hasn't been #1 on this site for a long time. Games like Eve, and Guild Wars that used to be on top should still be on top based on this logic, since they at least had different designs. I could see voting for those games because they had a style you could compare and contrast, features that you either liked or disliked. What I don't get is why if WoW is ranked #9 or something, then how does WoW 1.5 go to #1?
I guess it's more of the timing of it's release, and the fact that it didn't have any huge bugs, more than the quality of the game. Again, the ratings on this site have always been unreliable.
Edit: Gameloading speaks the truth.
You do realize that theres both fanbois and haters on this site right? The rankings on this site means squat since fanbois of say LOTR in this case gives the game a perfect score in every category while on other games the worst possible score, thats how it is and its always going to be like that. Think about it, if the entire playerbase of say, WoW, was to give the game a score, who would be on top? Also, FYI, this happens to every newly released games just some might be on top a little longer than the others. I remember at one point when RF Online was #1 for a week or two if I'm not mistaken. Not to mention the highly over-hyped Vanguard... enough said.
AHH i get it now FAnboyz ftw.

I believe WoW had a rank of 9.1 here when it was initially released.

It's a good game, but not that good.
LotRO's a good, fun game that some people will enjoy....
and other's won't...

I personally love LotR:O but all I can say is, it's nothing revolutionary just very well done. I've been with it since the beta in January, and have not bought the game. This MMO will be my steady MMO of choice for at least 2-3 years as there's nothing on the horizon that really interests me too much [Especially in the Sci Fi category] and the game's social aspects will keep me around.
ALWAYS judge for yourself though. See if you can get a buddy key. I only bought the game because I knew I loved it through Beta. Read all reviews you can, take from them what you can but try it out if possible before buying. I don't think you'll be disappointed but everyone wants different things in their game so... good luck and should you decide you love LotRO, welcome
BOYCOTTING EA / ORIGIN going forward.
WHICH ONE IS IT?!!?!?!?
The game is a solid game with a great launch. So of course it is going to get great scores. It can be played on low end systems which helps with its popularity. One of my guildmates plays the game with a 4200 graphics card on a 4 year old PC.
And of course you can say bad things about WoW with a straight face. WoW is too gear dependent and LOTRO isn't gear dependent at all. WoW is all about instance grinding to get loot and reputation grinding to get loot. LOTRO rewards you as you use your skills and kill your enemies while completing quests. For instance you might have a quest to help a guy recover his lost sword while escorting him around to find his sword you kill goblins. Killing goblins will earn you a title and later will earn you a trait by completing the deeds. WoW is horrible for RPing and LOTRO is much much better, LOTRO provides numerous tools other then just "Naked elf dancing" for RP purposes. The Story in LOTRO is much better then in WoW. The graphics are better in LOTRO then in WoW.

So lets see both are quest based games, both have a similar UI system that is in most MMO games, both are primarily PVE games So yeah they are just identical.

If it wasn't for the fact that I have been playing clones of the same game I started back in 1999 and I'm totally freakin sick of the clones, I would probably play LOTRo.
For people new to the genre I'm sure it's a fun game, for those of us jaded veterans we want something new and different.
I will say Lotro is decent, but I only played the first 15 levels. There seemed to be so much content within those levels, I had a sneaking suspicion it wasnt going to be like that for the long haul. But regardless of that, they are both two solid games.
First and foremost, you have to take into account all of the fans who try to pimp out lotros rating from the get-go. This always happens. In time, it will normalize. But as previous posters have said, its still an extremely flawed system that no one should put faith into.
Most of the time, you have a group of people who decide to all head over here and rate a game 10/10 with all seven thousand of their account names each, thinking this is going to lead the potential mmo players and people bored of their current games right to what has the highest rated score.
Im fairly certain that can work. But, you definetly gotta give it some time before you declare Lotro as the uber-game. Even if Lotr is the quintessential O.G. of swords and magic, that doesnt mean its going to be a superbly developed game. Case in point, SWG. Could have been so much more from the beginning. Not that I didnt play it for over three years from release off and on.
Peace to all.
Let's see what subscription numbers show toward the end of the next fiscal quarter, first, shall we?

That is the absolute truth. When a game starts to burn out and lose member, the die hards often swarm here to bump the ratings in an attempt to attract new people. Eve being the one exception to the rule. Look at the other titles and see for yourself.
I've been here for quite a few years and i'd have to say that the rating of just-opened mmo's will go through the roof. It happened with guild wars, it happened with WoW, it's happened with most mmorpg's here. Don't have an orgasm just because it's #1 rank now, that doesn't really say much about the game.
There have been much higher ratings than 8.5 on this site.
User ratings will fluctuate and I only use them to see if I there is a game that I should give a second look at.
I will be glad when AOC or WAR is released and people can go on to bash it for being a WoW clone, although neither appear to be any where close to it.

ROFL WTF, if u wana bash wow, i suggest u go get the physical game case and bang ur head against it, instead of turning this into another omg wtf i hate wow debate.
Please, If all I wanted to do was bash WoW I could come up with a lot more. I was answering Gameloadings rediculous comment that you can't bash WoW and praise LOTRO because they are the same game. He obviously is a complete and total WoW fanboy. It becomes more and more evident since he seems to always pop up praising WoW.

Eve an exception to the rule? No their fanboys are just as busy pumping their game as every other game's fanboys are. Every game on this site has its fanboys and its haters. It is just the nature of the genre. MMO Games do better with a good amount of people playing them, what the good amount all depends on the game. Too many people can be just as bad as too few. And both can cause your game to have both fanboys and haters.
The rankings themselves are a joke though since people can make multiple accounts to inflate or deflate the rankings. Although in the end the haters probably win out more so then the people who like the game.

you should check other sites and what ratings they gave the two games before saying wow's reign is over because mmorpg.com gave lotro a higher rating.. if you check www.gamespot.com lotro got an 8.8 and wow got 9.5 .. burning crusade even got a 9.2 anyways i dont really like either games.. i tried the lotro testing when they started that and didnt like the game at all. if i was rating wow and lotro i wouldnt give either one higher than a 7.0
