I really do not know the differances but ive tried both and they seem to have the same graphics and differant variations in pvp, anyways im not very experienced in both so could you maybe tell me the pros and cons of both games? I just dont want to pay for something that looks the same when the other is free, I appreciate what experiences with these 2 games anyone could give me thank you.

I would say the biggest difference is in Shadowbane you can be killed at any time and almost anywhere. It's a griefers paradise. Also you lose items and coin when you die. At least you did when I played last. Can't tell you how many times I went to a new town and just as I ported in there was players waiting there to gank you. Game is definetly not solo friendly. You need a guild to even remotely survive to the higher levels.
In DAoC you can level up either solo or in groups in safe areas and when you want to PvP some you head out to the numerous areas where you can do so. When you die in PvP you lose exps and some con. You have to go to a healer to have con restored by paying the healer a small amount.
Unless they had a major upgrade in graphics for Shadowbane I think DAoC has much better graphics. Of course thats with Catacombs expansion for DAoC. If you do plan on playing DAoC I highly reccomend getting the anniversy edition for about 30 bucks. It gives you the basic game with all the expansions.
And one last thing for you to think about, there is a reason games are free. In Shadowbanes case it is for very hard core PvPers who can handle many deaths and non stop ganking as you level. In my opinion this type of game does not appeal to the majority of players so their playerbase is quite small although very dedicated to the game.
I would highly reccomend getting the expansions. They add alot to the game, especially Catacombs. The only expansion the classic servers do not use is the Trials of Atlantis. Many hated this particular expansion for many different reasons so they opted to leave this material out of the classic servers.
Forgot to mention in earlier post there is actually a reason to PvP in DAoC. The more relics your realm controls the more poweful your realm can be. At the moment it appears Midgard has the upper hand with the most relics. Oh and to get relics you basically have to lay seige on a fortress not only killing very high level NPC guards but also the other realms player defenders. Makes for some great battles.
When I say seige I mean with seige weapons firing away, large groups of players fighting one another with casters and archers up on the walls firing at the attackers and the attacking forces casters and archers returning fire. The tanks and assassins patrolling area around the keep and rushing to defend allies or take the fight to the enemy. The healers for each realm healing away and rezzing their fallen comrades. Once there are holes in the walls the tanks and assassins pour in while the defenders try to push them back. Well you get the general idea.
One last thing, the game is not perfect. It has imbalances. But it is considered by many to be the best PvP game on the market. And quite a few who left a long time ago are returning because you just can not get the same type of fun in any other game out there at this time. I myself recently returned and am having a great time on the classic servers. Oh and I must mention that in DAoC technically it's called RvR for Realm vs Realm not PvP for Player vs Player. You rarely run across 1 on 1 fights. It's more a group vs group action normally.
I enjoyed both a lot.DAOC is my all time favorite mmorpg so far.As someone in here mentioned shadowbane is pure pvp orientated. If that's your style then this game is for you.If you rather choose when to pvp take DAOC , otherwise you'd probably get more frustrated then fun while playing.

Step 1: Create two accounts
Step 2: Make Two characters and log them both in, have one of them be a mage.
Step 3: Use the mage to level your primary toon to 20-21 on newbie island. (you can ditch the mage at this point)
Step 4: Find a guild using the "recruiting" toolbox. Default is the W key i think. Do not try to advance past 20 without finding a guild if at all possible.
Step 5: Explain to your new found guild that your "new" and never played shadowbane and will need help. Make sure the guild you choose has a solid population or you could find yourself standing around alone.
Step 6: Find your way into a "powerlevel" group and hit lv55 ish your first day. Bank all your gold, you will need it ALL.
Step 7: Research your primary class, find a good build on the forums..dont just throw your points around.
Step 8: Train up using your new guilds trainers and the build you should have been researching before you even installed the game.
This will get you to 55 your first day, the rest is up to you.
Ok, I am a cheap-bastard. I can say that: I make minimum wage, less than 20 hours a week and am in college. Frugality is a daily obligation. Now I understand both sides of the argument and definately understand the price thing, but I still play DAoC. It's more involved and (even swapping to some of the recommended servers) it's more user friendly. The graphics, especially the later engines are better than shadowbane; mostly due to the fact that you can zoom in to actually see a vast amount of embossed detail instead of a skinned, smooth surface (unless you have certain armour that's shaped). Gameplay is about the same regardless of your choice, but DAoC is by far superior in organization and peer-coop in rvr. Basically: try them both. Shadowbane is free, DAoC has a 14 day trial. You literally have nothing to lose!
