Why so much hype for this game?

    So what I wanna know is, are all ex DAoC players the ones hyping this up so much?  Why does everyone think this is going to be the game to play instead of WoW, the graphics looks damn similar.  I don't get it.  I wanna play a great mmorpg but if it's anything like DAoC I'd rather play WoW or FFXI....hell EQ even.
    Expansion killed wow. Played it for 2 years, got expansion, lvled to 70 then quit. It just lost its (for lack of a better word) feeling.

    Now WAR is gonna be great. I don't know very much about the lore, but Paul has sold it to me.

    WOW = Waiting on Warhammer.

    OP: The reason your friend swears to daoc being the best MMO ever is because all he do in daoc, is to play the endgame PvP. And since the game is nearly 6 years old, its very very hard for new players to come in and try to compete. Pretty much everything else in the game (PvE, crafting etc) sucks by todays standard, but the PvP is still better then any other PvP game I've tried.

    Just look at how many ppl are playing WoW which copied everything from WH IP. Now u got the real thing coming out and ppl are tired of playing WoW so we got alot of hype for this game.  Only ppl who deny the existence of WH are the WoW little kids who are afraid their friends are leaving them for WH.

    I personally don't think the IP had much, if anything, to do with WoW's success.

    The IP and company name behind the IP had EVERYTHING to do with WoWs success...besides those 2 things, WoW is just another generic MMO with cartoony graphics...big whoop.

    Bullocks.

    Probably 95% of the people that have played WoW had never heard of the Warcraft IP before hearing about that particular game.  Give yer head a shake. Just because the rabid gamers haunting the various game forums back then were well acquainted with the previous Warcraft titles doesn't mean diddly, as far as the success it's seen goes anyway. They were/are the proverbial drop in the bucket compared to the waves of people that are responsible for the game's success over the last couple of years. It quickly became a pop culture phenomena due to it's relatively excellent design incorporating the best elements from games that had come before, it's relatively easy to learn/easy to master game play, word of mouth, and the advertising that Blizz did. THAT'S why it's risen to the stature it has.

    You're full of the aformentioned bullocks.

    WoW didnt have a giant advertizing blitz when it launched, it was already huge in BETA, FREAKIN BETA.

    Starcraft, Warcraft...these are well known names outside of the MMO industry...some of the biggest in the gaming industry PERIOD.

    You might think that 8 million subs all came from non-gamers, but it's pretty damn obvious from the overall maturity and "leetness" of the WoW community that most of the "new to mmos" people came from single player and console roots - where, again, blizzard and it's titles were huge names long before WoW itself.

    meh, I can now see that this was a waste of time since it's obvious that you're just another "A Typical" WoW hater playing at being a gaming expert by the way that you regurgitate oft spoken, but long ago debunked, "theories" on why that game became so popular. Even though I no longer play the game and I'm fully aware of it's faults, I don't delude myself into thinking that they didn't do a damn good job on the game in a lot of areas, and that damn good job is what made the game a success. Thinking that many people actually pay much attention to the company making a game, and thinking that they'll dish out the money to play it based on that is just silly imo.

    Anyway I'm not wasting anymore of my time debating WoW.

    This section is about discussing WAR, and as more and more people take the time to have a real good look at it, I think they'll be as hyped about it as so many of us already are.

    The Devs repeatedly said: "If you don't like PvP/RvR, don't play our game. If you do like PvP/RvR however, you'll have a blast when playing our game."

    It'll be a RvR Game. Endgame will consist of 80% PvP and 20% PvE. In a time example: If you play Monday-Friday, you'll play Monday-Thursday PvP, and Friday PvE.

    This game is not a PvE Game with PvP tacked onto it (as WoW, RO, for example), it's a RvR Game from Second one.

    (Even beginning gameplay will consist of 20% PvP)

    You can PvP throughout your whole Career, since you gain XP, Gold, and Loot by PvPing, so if you want to, you won't have to kill a single NPC in your Life.

    It improves existing Gameplay features, adds new features. It'll be guaranteed fun to play. It won't revolutionize the MMORPG-Genre. It's a logical evolution for PvP-Gamers.

    AoC will be more of a revolution, but revolutions also have the risk of utterly failing by being horribly unbalanced and very clumsy to play in the beginning.

    It's made by the makers of DAoC, which inarguably has the best PvP/RvR a MMORPG ever had. Even now, after it is more than 5 Years old! MMORPGs that will release will probably take that crown, because FINALLY other companies recognized that PvP is the only things that keeps being fun even after years. But only until WAR will release, because it, once again, will be ahead YEARS of other games in terms of PvP/RvR Fun.

    THAT'S why I hype WAR so much :)
    Not true they had thought of 70+ classes ... 3 sided conflict ... etc ... And then they decided not to why becuase in oen of the vids Mythivc peopel stated they WANT MONEY and when way back when i was sayign on WAR allince that they were makign all these un-mythic moves JUSt for money and to grab the WoW market i wgot bitched at by the mods... about 3 months after that mythic peeps said it themselves... WAR is beign made to compete with WoW for player base ... That why its got a teen rating, thats is why its is more easy/lazy mode than daoc and more like wow in that aspect.

    Mythics gonna try to beat WoW while they had said they don't think they will win it would be nice.

    No i am not looking up year + old movies to link them.

    Fine, run off....pretty damn obvious you have nothing to say except how 'WoW is the greatest game evar' and 'it's goodness is only surpassed by its awesomeness'.

    Also, for people paying attention to what company makes a game and dishing out money based on that;

             See peoples dislike of games with SoE anywhere on them

             See peoples draw to vanguard before it was discovered to be crap (names of people behind it, but same princple)

             See your appearance here, thinking WAR will be good based mainly on Mythics name, and the people working at mythic.

             See giant orgy before blizzards announcement of starcraft 2, how people were drooling over whatever they might possibly          announce, with almost no advertisement from blizzard.

    So please, If you have no idea what you're talking about, keep quiet.

    Let us all now sing "Give WAR a chance", as written and sung by Toughy Lennon (John''s illegitimate 2nd cousin).
