Cant we all just get on ?

summitussummitus Member UncommonPosts: 1,414

After alot of thought I've been wondering why we all just cant get on ? Everyone seems to to be bickering and upseting each other ( me included by the way )but why ? WoW is a Graet Game and has certainly proven itself to be the best Mmo out there but Lotro is very good too along with some other really good Mmo's like Eq, Eve, Guild Wars Etc. I've been thinking that we are all very priveleged and lucky to be able to play all these games, and instead of screaming at each other we should be supporting our great love of games and do what ever we can to encourage more peeps to play any Mmo. After all without these great games we would'nt have this forum. I have been guilty of a little flaming and trolling myself ocasionlly but I have seen the light and at the end of the its pretty futile , All the negativity can only end up hurting us all in the long term, every single persomn that is put off or talked into not play a particular Mmo is just a loss for the Industry and us all.At the end of the day the more play all the Mmo's that we can, the more Mmo's will be made.

You know... I actually support your sentiment, though it's a little naive.

The point is people pour a lot of their time into these games, so of course they get emotional about them. For instance, though I can't deny WoW's success, I loathe it's philosophy and the effect it has had on the genre (reducing it to mass market junkfood for those who cant/ wont be bothered to get involved in the communities that give these games their very soul), so of course I am going to argue my corner as I see fit. When I see the type of game I love going down the tubes in order to appeal to the mass market I am gonna respond.

Then you have those that troll in an attempt  to manipulate others to prove their own sense of self worth to themselves.

Then we have the industry 'motivated' posters who are 'motivated' by games companies out there to plague the competition's forums and act as opinion formers. These guys arnt at all interested in a 'lets all hug' philiosophy, thats for sure.

Then you have the fanboi who so badly needs to buy into something he will respond to even the mildest questioning of 'his' game with open aggression...

Can we all get on? Nah, I don't think so, but then if I walked into a pub would I expect to get on with everyone in it? Of course not. I would probably get on with what? 40% of the people there? The rest I would probably be better off ignoring. The same holds true with the forums I guess.

Human nature. now a few out there post simply to upset others, the trolls. But the majority of negitive posts are from players that bought the game, tried it, and the game did not live up to their standards. What to do? Simply stop paying and playing ? That's to easy. that's letting said company off the hook and you really want to lash out at them for taking your money and time. Post what you think on the forums? yea, that's the ticket, I'll let others know what a piece of sh%^ this game is, maybe  the word will get around and others will not pay , ie, support said company.  now i feel better about the whole thing.

Look at soe, they must be the most hated company on  the forums. Just about everyone lashes out at them. Does it matter in the long run?  nope , only a few percent of actual gamers use the forums. numbers are all that matter to companys. We post to try and change the numbers in our own small way, either for the good or the bad.

if you think about it... wow went from kaplan's 40man raiding fest, to the new toned down 25man raiding fest, with a smattering of 5-10 man instances (which you can farm a second go around in heroic mode).    so, wow's "big thing", i.e. the 40 man raids, has been toned down considerably based upon players voicing their opinions (and cancelling accounts i'm sure), instead of just being happy and nice and such.

COx, known for it's boring same old same old mission maps and powerset nerfs every issue, along with statesman's mysterious (and every changing) "initial vision of the game"; has had major changes to how they do business.  instead of a new issue every quarter, they're at about 1 1/2 issues a year (not really a good thing)-- but, no nerfs in the past couple of issues, inventions/crafting being added when i9 goes live (something statesman said was on the shelf and wouldn't be looked at again anytime in the near future), new mission types (and maps) being added every issue.  so again, this game has been changing based upon player desires/comments/complaints.

i'm not sure why people accept the cop out that you're supposed to release a buggy, so-called unpolished game.  i hope every person that supports that thinking gets to see it in other areas of life, i.e. buggy and unpolished cable/satellite, phone, cell phone, internet service, car, wife/husband/gf/bf, paycheck, etc.  or maybe they could list the non-mmo type games that they've played which are buggy and unpolished, and they felt that was acceptable?  monopoly? trouble? halo? command and conquer?

a reason some people won't get along/agree on these type things is because some people accept everything put before them, and others actually want quality for their money.  it's just how people are.

could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?

While I concur with your sentiment, the moment you put a line like this in a post you basically are "throwing down the gauntlet".  This is an opinion that invites challenge and provokes people to disagree with it.

I agree, the more MMORPG players the better.  But one reason I'd like to see WOW taper off is so that other developers won't be so encouraged to emulate WOW's formula.  I played WOW and enjoyed it..and am now playing LotRO and enjoying it.  (I did play VG..but God will forgive me for that I'm certain)  But I sure don't want AOC or WAR to play the same as these two games do, I need something different.  In fact, I'm going to give SotNW a trial for a different gaming experience.

We come to these forums to disagree with one another, its human nature... if we all agreed we'd really have nothing to discuss.
