I am sorry if this is that type of post that appears every couple of days, but I have a couple of questions abou this game.
From what I have read you either love this game or hate it. A friend at work told me about it, and it got me thinking....
I'm a vet of SWG (pre), WoW (4 months after launch, for a year or so), and EQ2. I had a blast with each of them, but got bored around mid game.
My questions are:
1) Is the game soloable?
2) Is it a more extensive grind than the above mentioned games?
3) is player crafted stuff = to drop stuff (is it worth crafting)
4) Is the community helpful? (notlooking for hand outs, just advice and answers when needed without the sarcasm)
5) Should I kick myself in the butt for not stopping on the way home from work and getting this came and calling in sick tonight!
6) can I play it on my laptop? 3.20 Ghz, 1GB ram and a Radeon mobility 9700 vid card. (going on a 14 day training trip and need to play something)
Thanks in advance for any input.
I shoot for the curve... anything above that is gravy.

In America I have bad teeth. If I lived in England my teeth would be perfect.
2) From my experience not really, the quests were alot more engaging than in any of the above games you mentioned (i've played them all) and not once in the treck from 1 to 25 did i look at my experience bar saying to myself "only 12 more kills to level"
3) Didn't get too much into crafting, but from my beta experience, yeah, some items were really good compared to drops and some were up to par with them
4) Yet again from beta experience i'll say yeah it was very helpful and better yet; MATURE! (altho this might not be the case in retail)
5) If you liked the games you mentioned above, i'd definitely say GO AHEAD and kick yourself and skip work, but it's up to you if you want a black bum and lie to your boss.
6) Yes you can, altho you might have to crank the video setups a bit down, specially the drawing distance with only 1gig it tends to get a bit hickupy in towns with more than 3-5 people around you and tons of npcs (I betaed it myself with only 1gig, but it was still very enjoyable)
Hope this helps your decision and i suggest you wait for more opinions aswell, i take no responsibility of my words here just my 2p
My answers:
1. Yes and No. There is a lot of solo content through the quests and is largely risk vs. reward. The best rewards are usually for the fellowship (group) quests. Groups are so easy to pick up in LOTRO that you shouldn't have a problem in this area though. Some of the fellowship quests can be completed solo if you out level them.
2. No and Yes. There is grind in LOTRO, but it's not as noticable than in WoW. This is mostly because the quests are very well written and varied enough to keep you interested. It's not really like WoW where you can just skip the excuse it gives for a collection or kill quest - reading is often required. Grinding on mobs doesn't really happen too much, because it is the quests that give the most experience, but there is some farming for certain mats involved... I can't comment on SWG as I never played it - but I get what you mean because my best friend was hooked on it pre-cu.
3. Yes! Crafted gear seems to be good and desirable at most levels.
4. Yes! - depends on your question and how often it has been asked etc. LOTRO has a great community in my experience.
5. I don't know. Some people love this game, and some hate it. You'll have to play to find out.
6. You laptop should run the game just fine on med-high settings. Might have to tweak a couple of options. But it will look fantastic.
Hope this helps.
