an mmo worth playing...

alright as many of you know i was up in the air about LOTRO then finally i just decided to try it i was sick of asking questions to see if it was going to be worth it or not... Honestly at first i was kinda let down... but now i am pretty pleased with my purchase... the game isn't WoW like much at all some things appear to be similar but we are giving WoW too much credit... these common features are mmo features at heart meaning they are not specific to any game imo... instead they are specific to the mmorpg group of games... the title system is lots of fun... no longer do you have to kill x of this creature for little more than some gold and a pair of boots... now you get a title saying your say the spider-foe... etc.  this makes the grind much more fun... also these deeds as they are called give you special abilities that increase your stats... also their are race specific and class specific deeds like using a special attack a certain amount of times and gaining an ability that improves that attack... the graphics are nice as well taking a much different path than wow... no cartoony look instead much more realistic graphics... i've heard complaints about the running animations being too stiff... which they are somewhat.. however... should you throw a game out simply because the running is as realistic as you would like? The game takes the state of our current mmo's and advances which imo makes it worth trying... i'm not that high of a level but my first reaction is as the game only came out about a week ago... the content in game will tide you over until the free expansion comes out in June... and there's only more to come after that... i hope they will listen to the players wants... and as of yet i have no reason to assume they wouldn't... the game really is good... it's solid... and exciting... with animations, an amazing story line... and interesting class choices... one thing however is the begging couple levels get a little old to me... with dwarfes and elves sharing a starting area, and humans and hobbits sharing one... but after that the game content for each race is much more orginal...

i had lots of questions about this game when it came out... and i was skeptical but it is solid so far... and i would encourage anyone who is interested in playing to just buy the game and test it out yourself.... and i do have a buddy key if anyone is interested...

Turbine is smart to keep the game updated constantly. Coming from someone who pretty much beta tested the game from the start all the way to open beta, it gets old.

Then you're not really advertising the situation fairly, in fact you're doing the game a disservice with this statement.  If you beta tested the game "from the start" then you went through... 4, maybe 5 character wipes?  I know I did.  Did it get old doing level 1-40 3-4 times?  Of course it did.

You were a beta tester.  We were testing the content for launch for 6 months+.  For 6 months the current content has kept me entertained.  That's not counting most of the level 50 E Angmar stuff that wasn't open very long in closed.  Carn Dum and the other instance (starts with a U, can't remember) are the ones that have me most intrigued.  That and the new instance in Evendim, the Helegrod raid, all new level 30-40 content.  That's what all the people playing the game from even pre-order to the first update have to look forward to.  Do you honestly think 2 months will bore them if it kept you entertained for 6?

Perhaps you should play through some of the content updates and then pass judgement.

I meant what i said in a good way. I think that there's a good variety of quests and things like that, but at the time, it seems like they were coming up short in many areas before open beta. I try to see it through the eyes of the hardcore and the casual (since I've been both). I think the atmosphere of the game is great, but I don't  see this game in it's current state holding anyone's attention for more than 4 months. More power to Turbine and their fans if they prove me wrong.

Remember, Evendim is the same size as the North Downs.... Which means a 10% increase in game size within 1.5 months of shipping.  At that rate content will come as fast or faster than even hardcore players can keep up with it.
