A trial for CoH and an opinion

in City of Heroes
Hey there, I'm looking to try out a new game and City of Heroes is literally the only one that I hadn't played yet, could someone explain to me what the main pro's are? At the moment I'm playing Ryzom right now, but that game just feels eerily empty and the guild I'm in barely logs in anymore, not to mention whilst it is a skill system the game feels like such a grind.

Quoting people doesn't make you clever, in fact, it makes you all the more stupid for not bothering to read the quotes you post in the first place.

    it was the last one i tried too. i posted this before, but i think it was the super hero "goofy factor" that kept me away from it for so long. i also played a little of ryzom and to tell you the truth it's an amazing game, there's just something strangely "missing" from it, and i can't put my finger on it. so now after trying about 7 or 8 mmos after the death of swg i've landed in CoX. why do i like it ? hard to say, the devs have a great sense of humor that carries through out the entire game, and the combat is just plain fun.

    yes, it's repetitive.

    yes, when analyzed there's really only a few different mission types.

    but all in all, it's a fun game to play.

    i started out playing CoH, but i'm having a better time playing villains, things just seem a little more complete.



    right now I9 JUST went live so it looks like alot of people are back playing to see the new "crafting" system. if you're interested pm me and i'll get you a trial key to test the game out.

    Yeah there is definitely something missing from Ryzom, but CoH just does look interesting and I want to break away from these MMORPG's that try to be serious but end up failing miserably *coughs* WoW *coughs* It'd be a nice change, plus I can make any character I like

    Argh, only one problem now, I got everything set up, my account and all, but now I'm downloading the client and it's only at a 41.0k/sec speed! I hope it gets faster -_- not sure where I can do a HTTP download.

    The pro's and cons? or just pros ill do em both



    PROS

    Amazing create a character you will never see someone who looks like you... unless you do a basic like Black suit with a white skull type deal.

    Almost too fun game play

    Super jump

    Awesome archetypes and a good skill levelling, update skill system deal thing

    The longer you play the more stuff you get

    Upgraded super jump

    Super Groups are awesome

    PvP is fast paced and amazing



    CONS

    Other then inventions and such there are no gear/weap drops

    Fly

    Some archetype combos are way too imba while others are completely useless.

    My NRG/NIN stalker will wipe the floor with your defender's Archer build(see above con)

    Can get old for most after 3+ months of playing.



    Get it Trial it Love it(even if only for a few months), it is my favorite 2nd gen MMO... wait Ill give it one of my favorites. FFXI is more of a 1.5gen rather then 2nd gen. But CoH/V along with FFXI are my favs from 2nd gen.

    downloaders are creepy, I had to restart my comp and all of a sudden it's at 173k/sec anyway, thanks for that, it sounded like an honest post and that's all I really was looking for as for the useless archetypes thing and flying etc. I think that's to be expected, balancing and flying is very hard to do in an MMORPG since it takes a lot of careful programming, not only that, you get people who cry nerf for no reason which is silly, looking forward to playing the game tonight though, I might end up getting it if I find the community is good and I don't get too bored, customization definitely sounds like a plus.

    hehehe. tonight you'll spend 6-1/2 hours in character creation tomorrow night you shall..
