So... Predictions on NGE for Vanguard?

jonawikijonawiki Member UncommonPosts: 41

So once SOE takes control of Vanguard... when will they implement an NGE of the game?

And what features will they eliminate or change?

Thought?

Not saying thats not possible, but IMO SOE knows it needs to improve there image after the SWG debacle, so I wouldnt be surprised if they actually improve this game without butchering it like they did SWG...

    Only time will tell tho...

What is NGE?  I've heard it relation to SWG, but have never figured out what it is.

The first sentence may be somewhat trollish, and his previous posts notwithstanding, he does raise a pertinent question.

What will SOE do with the game, if/when they finalize the acquisition of the game?

Will they leave the dev team intact, or bring in a whole new team to clean up? Or a mix of both?

Will they be willing to invest more money into a game that may or may not see a return on that investment due to the poor launch, and poor overall public opinion(within the MMO community, anyway)?

Will they follow the current path of the game, or will they make a drastic change in direction, a la EQ2, or the NGE?

I predict that SOE learned their lesson with SWG.... better to try and build on their current playerbase...not chase after other markets

I don't think the situations of pre-NGE SWG and VG are similar enough to make an NGE-type change likely. There does not seem to be a big reason to change the basic structure of the game. If the management believe there is a need to dumb the game down to make it more "accessible", it can be accomplished with fairly small tweaks, and does not require an overhaul. Less crashing is, IMO, the most helpful immediate need, followed closely by non-catastrophic bug fixes. The next category of things in importance after that is putting in the basic features that were promised but are not yet delivered.

The SWG NGE was driven by a perceived need to pursue a particular demographic market that was thought to be the best market for the pre-existing IP. VG doesn't have a pre-existing IP, or anything outstandingly unique to distinguish its IP from generic fantasy. It has to succeed on the basis of its own goodness of play experience, with no crutch in the form of a pre-existing IP to make up for whatever real or imagined suck factor it possesses.

hell i hope SOE takes over, even if they are aiming for money, im sure they have the people to make it better...Brad's so called "vision" is a dream that didnt come true, he built it for a while and then forgot what the rest should be...

jsut remember a vision is a dream, you either wake up and forget it or you wake up remember parts of it and the rest is gone...its been over, he doesnt know what hes doing now...

SOE did a combat revamp in MxO as soon as they got the title, twice to SWG (a third in the works by rumor) and did a combat revamp to characters and monsters in EQ2.  I don't understand why you think it is artificial as SOE's track record so far points to exactly that, a revamp.

Let us assume for a moment that they do not intend to do a NGE/Combat revamp.  How do you think they will attract people to give it a try or a second chance?  For vanguard to have the slightest chance they need to generate something to peek peoples interest.

The other likelihood is they try out some new form of cash for play/items system.  That might lend some explanation of them hiring the guy from IGE.

    Thoughts?

One could also make the argument that they did a slow motion "revamp" of EQ once it was in their hands, for good or ill.

Usually coinciding with the release of a new competitor...

I.E. Removal of the hell levels that we were told time and again it was impossible to remove due to the math involved in the level calculations, and so forth.

You've had few dealings with SOE then eh? It's kinda like the fans who are left playing the nge. We tried to tell them SOE would bite them in the ass someday and they all told us to GFO, STFU and leave ect ect. Now they are on the verge of some nifty combat enhancements once again and the forums are full of more wine (or whine) than Europe. OMG the game is gonna be hard again WAAAH! So point is it's gonna happen, maybe for the worse, maybe for the better, but oh yes it will happen.

I can't see them doing anything as drastic as the NGE. NGE dumbed down the game quite a bit which has already happened in Vanguard. I forget the exact timeline Sigil quoted but I think they expected players to level 1-40 in a couple of months then 40-50 would take another couple of months. They changed that so much that many players made it lvl 1-50 in less than 2 months. I just can't see how making the game any easier would draw new customers.

I hope they dont try to pull an NGE style change and focus more on adding a raid interface, raid content, fixing bugs and finish populating the rest of the dungeons.

Hey, these forums need something to talk about and if Brad and SOE can't make up their mind how they want to spin this, then we are faced with speculation and guessing.

Well IMO at least SOE had a pretty good game before they went with the NGE. Most games out there go to the NGE directly, completely missing a good game .

Well... this game already is E-Z mode.  I consider it already NGE-ified, what more can they do to dumb it down?.  Easy to level, no corpse runs, instant teleports, nothing but a long boring easy grind with no raids to give an incentive for the grinding.

Even if the game had been released the way it was hyped up, being a truly difficult group based MMO, ala old Everquest, it still wouldnt have the best part of what Everquest was... yes, END GAME RAIDING.

Tell me.. what was so difficult about EverQuest? I played it for 5 years.. never found it difficult. I find it funny when people say EverQuest was a "hardcore MMO."

So please.. explain to me what made it so "difficult."

Maybe I should have said Old Everquest.  I quit about the time planes of power came out.  I played a warrior, a really well dressed warrior for the time, and I could solo a light blue monster, if I was lucky.  It took me about a year to get to 60.  I had to have a group to do about anything in that game.  Then there is the corpse runs from hell, major exp loss if you didn't have a good cleric buddy, the monsters chased you forever... till you zoned.  There are alot of things that made that game more difficult than the current MMOs such as WoW EQ2 Vanguard LOTR, I don't think its much of a debate.

I don't understand how you would say everquest wasn't more difficult than any of the newer games that are coming out.  Of course maybe they have made EQ super easy too since I last played... I dunno.  But the old school EQ was very difficult relative to the EZ mode games out now IMO, especially for a melee class.

There's not one MMO that's "difficult". WoW has 10 year olds raiding, and so does EQ.

But EQ's combat system, and specific classes, figuring out the GoD expansion and the latest TSS and TBS raids and scripts are pretty hard compared to what most MMO's offer.

Vanguard is hardcore in it's tediousness, EQ is hardcore because you actually have to use some intelligence on the TSS and TBS raids.

VG has no raids, it's button mashing up till lvl 50.
