I had a VG account at release. I played it for about 2 weeks, then let it sit for a week to play with some friends who had just returned to EQ2. When I came back at about week 3, I was shocked to find my account had been banned. I emailed customer service and never received a response. I never did receive an explanation or reinstatement. Needless to say, I was pretty pissed about this. I guess they thought my 12th bard with 6 gp saved up was a gold farmer or something.... I had actually tried several classes to about 10, and passed the money on from one to the next to save up for one that I finally stuck with.
Now, I find myself playing again, after having paid for the game twice.
Here's why:
1. I have a smokin' new system I built in February that can play VG on all high settings with AA set at x2. The world art is amazing maxed. I'm not experiencing the myriad of bugs everyone else rants about on this forum.
2. I tried LOTRO during beta and found it lacking. Combat seemed boring. I couldn't handle another cartoony, WoW-clone tour-guide led brain numbing game.
3. EQ2 is IMO the best game out there. Totally polished, but no longer holds my interest. I've played every major MMO since UO so it was time to move on.
4. Community: Honestly, this is a guess on my part. I'm thinking that players in Vanguard now want to be in Vanguard. This should make for a more mature player base. Players need to group to succeed, meaning there's a good likelihood of developing lasting gaming relationships with those adventuring near my location and level. When a game is easy to solo and advance in, I'm generally too lazy to look for a group.
5. World size: I love to explore, and this place is huge.
6. Classes: The combat skills are interesting, at least so far. I've two-boxed several other games, but one character keeps me busy enough in combat to keep me from getting bored. I'm playing bard. I love the song customization provided to this class.
Only time will tell if VG is the game I stick with this year. AoC will have to get a look. For now, It's an interesting, challenging game.

I myself have played since beta 3 and while certain aspects of the game are fun, I have just had enough. Broken promises, bugs, bugs, bugs. I hope your experience is better cause the eye candy only goes so far. This and the fact that all the classes are in a state of constant flux just drivers me nuts. VG could have been great but in its current state, I find it lacking.
Honestly, I am glad you are enjoying the game. I really, truely am. But I hope others who are thinking of joining read this post about you getting banned for no reason and no explaination and use it as a warning: If the dev's merely THINK you are a gold farmer- no investigations will be made, you will simply be banned.
Welcome back to Vanguard.
Now playing: VG (after a long break from MMORPGS)
Played for more than a month: Darkfall online, Vanguard SOH, Everquest, Horizons, WoW, SWG, Everquest II, Eve
I`m glad you are enjoying the game now. That`s the most important thing (MMO wise anyways). I know when I left WoW for EQ2, I got some backlash from real life friends that I was playing WoW with. Yeah, that sounds silly but it`s true. Just play what you enjoy and you`ll be happier in the long run, no matter if people bash what you like.
PS Those buddies of mine have now quit WoW and went back to EQ1. Too prideful to play EQ2 I guess. LOL
I am happy you have found an enjoyable game, which is particularly difficult with the current MMORPGS on the market. I am not prepared to state that I am "back" yet, but I have also resubscribed to explore the changes (good, bad or no change) that have taken place.
Enjoy yourself.
A level 12 with 6 gold pcs?
You certainly didn't make that gold just by adventuring, right? Because this game like WoW pays peanuts for their missions. Although, WoW is much worse, at least all the missins here payout for the most part unlike woW.
But you can probably make it if you crafted but I don't know how anyone can spend their time crafting in this game. Not with the current system anyway. But, to each his own.
But after getting banned for no reason if that in fact was the case. Why would you associate and pay to play this game? I don't see why even for what was said as the reason. If anything, you needed to avoid this company, I think most players would of, after getting shafted.
Fool me once shame on you
Fool me twice shame on me
You're teling them its ok to ban others for no reason as they'll just buy another game and return to play although they got screwed. Isn't this what was done by returning again?
Funny first part post BrotherGrim.
Hmmm, Just a quick question were you a tailor or outfitter by chance on any of your avatars? I had two friends that were banned in the same way you were and they actually fessed up to buying gold from a flagged farmer account.
I'm glad your back and enjoying the game also but it kinda makes you look suspicious that they would do something to your account (unless you bought from a gold farmer or sold some gold)/shrugs, JMHO.
