MXO had potential but poor sales and even worse handling after it went gold sealed it's fate.
Development has stopped; don't expect an expansion, new areas, abilities, classes, dungeons, or anything. Not gonna happen, what you buy now is what you'll have.
MXO has the most mind numbing leveling process ever created. It's painful, do you like running the same mission over and over? Literally the SAME mission? No, then MXO is not for you.
But wait, there are "critical" missions and neighborhood contact missions! Yeah, these missions are the same thing with different text that the NPC says. Do you care what the NPC says or are you trying to progress? Doing these contact and critical missions takes no time thankfully (maybe not) so soon enough all you'll be left with is standard missions. Wooo Hoo! They release a handful of new critcal missions every two weeks or so. It takes about 5-10 minutes to finish them.
The city is very small and is even smaller because of "hardlines." These are basicaly telphone booths that teleport players to other telephone booths through the city instantly.
PVE consists of Pandora’s Box and constructs, which are basically, get a group and DPS a boss and hope that something drops. No special strats needed, don't even bring a healer, just dps. Oh and there are only a few of them, which are only accessible at certain levels and some, have level caps. There are no plans to introduce more of either of these. Pandoras box is a quest line of sorts that has you fight waves of mobs for drops that are turned into a collector for items. There are only a few boxes and this was done by just about everyone in the community in two days. So there's a day or so of something to do.
The community is down to a few hundred at best and the best and brightest have left a long long time ago. They left mostly because there is NO END GAME at all, not pve or pvp. Seriously, none. You can log in to MXO and go all over and if you're lucky, you might actually see someone. Even more people are leaving now that new games are dropping so you'll have even a harder time finding anyone.
There is only Roleplay as end game. They have "events" which are roleplay session with OTHER PLAYERS who were picked by a dev named rarebit to play pretend as one of the "organization" liaisons. (Zion etc.) So you can roleplay with other players for $15 dollars a month. A lot of players are strict roleplay fanatics, they talk ((ooc)) and all that nonsense. Oh and sometimes rarebit will log in as someone and play pretend too. Sorry sean, who gives a shit right and who is he anyway? So if you don't like hearing the same pseudo intellectual Neo conversation for the 500th time with cute brackets, stay away.
Pvp consists of one group fighting at one place all day, and it's really just zerg vs. zerg. Nothing to it, just bring more and it's a third person shooter, no pvp rewards or penalties. Oh and hyperjump is a good way to get away from your eneimes should you want to go roleplay.
Players asked for new zones, abilities, dungeons with good boss fights, pvp rewards, etc. But SOE said, "no, we don't have the money for your game, soo uh how about player roleplay." It's a shame, with the addition of a good pve/questing system and a point to pvp, it would be worth the money. But if you are a matrix freak or love roleplay, then you might have a good thing for you.

You're so obsessed with bashing the game...
You know, this "team" that never was such, and is no more for months and months anyway, also thought they wanted to show the blues the light against the "pissed ex-player h8ers".
So for the last time, ditch this stupid bullshit about promoters.
And yea. Although BloodWork's comment was very ironical, you are accusing me for talking about a game I "don't play"... and I only "haven't played" very recently, I used to play very regularly. So whatever.

They even have a website. So for the last time, stop lying. Please try to stay on-topic and quit it with the personal attacks.
I think there's a misunderstanding. We're only talking about promoters that use forums to post artificially positive reviews. Like those who came here and posted positive reviews months ago (although it appeared it was just their opinion). Link me to a post that calls to do exactly this (lying on forums, not do some videos, posters or flyers), then you have a point.
Find me a "personal" attack? You do know what personal means right? You know you can't change the meaning to suit your purposes, in this case, attacking me. I did, sift through his spamming. A minute ago you were denying the existence of anything of this manner. Stop trolling. As for his DN1 post, He editied it, you saw it, now you're reporting for trolling and hijacking.

rofl, thats your grand proof? Yes there was a forum there for some sort of fan marketing initative a guy thought up, it was a forum and idea made god knows how long ago, that was only for pulling together cruddy little resources like some poster designs people made, a forum and idea that hardly made it past 5 threads with no replies.
Seriously, that thing died within a week of being up, lol.
Maybe someone did revive it, maybe some top secret organisation does work in the shadows, always watching, but i highly doubt it
Man, and I thought the mods at DN1 were incompetent. *YAWN*
If SoE doesn't care about this game, why should we?
Typos are reported by players and take seconds to fix, so you're giving the devs too much credit lol.
The very recent update was so empty because the limited resources had gone on the anniversary event, though, but this wasn't the only lame patch in the history.
If SoE doesn't care about this game, why should we?
A truly wise question, because when it comes to products, I personally never care about my own interests, only about the company's.
My whole (consument, lol) life is based on nothing else but principles. If a company is emotionally touched by creating a product and invests a lot into it, I'll sure as hell jump on it and buy it, even if I might not give a damn about it personally - it's the company's enthusiasm that counts, after all, not myself.
It's a shame that the countless threads on how to improve the game with a few simple changes were ignored so they could get a barbershop pill. The community actually fights against those ideas. So much wasted potential, it's like if Jessica Alba became a nun.
Player 1 "So what about the trojan horse etc, maybe we can get pvp rewards for cq's, new dungeons would be awesome."
Fanboi: "STFU teh devs have no time for that stuff and they said IT WON'T HAPPEN."
Player 1: "Uhh that's great, but I was asking the devs and hoping we could change thier mind if we show proper support to the ideas."
Fanboi: "I told you, stfu, players don't want pvp objectives or pve content, they want barber shops and a lesig team."
Player1 " ....good luck with that."
Months roll by as players leave.
Fanboi "OMG WE NEED TO ADVERTISE CUS LIKE...THERE AREN'T ENOUGH PLAYERS."

That was funny to read, but seriously - pve content and pvp objectives are one thing, but players also have asked for the ability to change background/appearence, or at least complained about their absence.
I mean, it's also not like the hype about the pills before and after they were released was met with total rejection and contempt, players didn't mind that idea or actually even liked it.
I might be mistaken, but I even think that it was long claimed impossible or very hard to enable players changing their backgrounds or apperearence, and it was solved.
I mean, it's not like pve content and pvp objectives weren't more important than this, in my opinion.
The base for the latter one is set, they just need to create regular luggables that provide you buffs or create useful items in your inventory - if it's not the CQs, it's another method. I haven't followed the game for a few weeks, so I don't know if they did anything about it in live events etc.. I know it was done in two annual events.
PvE content? I assume you mean challenging PvE content, right? Yea, Rarebit said they wanted to do something about the archives, equip them with new stuff like 01, or creating multiple instances of those. I assume it's still in the works. Right now, not much has been done - those sims in the org areas are loot-less, if I don't err.
Folks this is very very hard to do omg, impossible!
When in fact it will only take dedicated personel or more resources and when they finally do something about it.
Then all the fanbois rejoice:
Look they done it, "insert dev name" ftw!
And appearance changing grind? In many games an appareance without having to bust your ass to change your eye color or hairstyle.
What the entire community knows, and the devs ADMIT:
They lack resources; they lack abilities/knowledge of the system; they, or the previous devs, have coded the game in a bad way, so things are hard to change.
It's not so hard to realize that they don't brag by saying any of this, and even the excuse of the suxor engine falls back to themselves.
Could devs also make it up to cover up their lack of dedication (because they do admit the lack of resources)? Or maybe to put players in a pessimistic mood so they can surprise them with improvements (which would be an inherently stupid concept)? Well, I personally don't believe it, but logically, it could be I suppose.
By the way, no one praises devs for having accomplished the impossible, least of all me, I think you've missed my point - all I said was, sometimes the things they say is hard to do are eventually released in the game, there are some more examples I suppose. So when they say "we can't attach cqs to rewards", it MIGHT change in the future.
And what kind of a point is your last sentence? Yea, in other games. In other games, the coding is more complicated than in MxO, or have I got that wrong? In this game, appearence changing is a grind.
I think it's common sense to say that making this into a grind rather than just introducing the mechanic, was, at the end of the day, more work, not the other way round, and EITHER WAY, it was INTENTIONAL, so what's your point?
Wow, you just complain about something not being presented to you on a silver tray. I wonder what you look for in MMOs at all.
Oh that's right, thanks sean...did I mention the player moderators SOE uses to patrol the forums? They make David Duke look unbiased.
SOE uses player mods for the same reason LESIG consists of players - because they don't want to employ people with these jobs if they can get free volunteers.
If they're biased, it's because they're players.
Yes, you did mention this, lots of times.

The Matrix has you ...
and the cash shop selling asphalt..." - Mimzel on F2P/Cash Shops
Hail Neo, full of pwnage, Morpheus is with thee
Blessed art thou among Zion, and blessed is the roundhouse against Smith.
Holy Neo, pray for us now, and at the hour of Victory, Amen.
Nope.
Neo is no longer part of the story nor is anyhting that you may remeber from the Matrix films. AFAIK the game isn't even mentioned on the Matrix website.
Again blantant inaccuracy and lies in the face of common sense.
The story continues to feature and expand upon vital themes and characters from the matrix trilogy.
Its been atleast 6 months since I tried MxO, and whats been described above pretty much summed up my experience. From my perspective, it seems MxO, has taken the back benches in SoE's line up. Something its done to Planetside. They're just milking it.
