Why did Sanya leave?

gnomexxxgnomexxx Member Posts: 2,920
Why did the community relations chick at Mythic leave?  I'm talking about Sanya who used to answer questions and give information on the Camelot Herald.

It got me to wondering if things are changing too much at Mythic.  I'm not trying to read into it too much, that's why I'm asking why she left.  I want to know the whole story.

I looked around the Internet and only found an article where she was giving the standard diplomatic responses you would expect from someone not wanting to burn bridges.  But there's always a reason why someone leaves a company.  If you're happy in your job you stay, right?  And it's not like Camelot was scraping the bottom of the barrel when it came to a job.  I would love to have the job she had.

Does anyone know what is the rest of the story?

No, and I doubt we ever will.  Anything else posted is just speculation sadly.

Perhaps we'll see Tweety's site back up soon.  :)

If you don't know who tweety was, check this out.  Link  (Warning, Harsh language)  This is Sanya before she was with Mythic.

Also, here's a good commentary on her leaving.  Link

Chances are we will never know why - at least until her husband quits his job there.  We have a good reason to think it has something to do with the job.  It could be money, lack of advancement, change in policies, just sick of the job, etc.  Since she did community relations this should have had nothing to do with the direction of the game, but perhaps the direction EA Mythic does in its management.  I am sure there are lots of new polices there now.  Doing a press release now I am sure is far more difficult because you need to get it approved at EA Mythic and then sent over to EA corp who then send it to their legal dept. and then they have to approve it.  So whatever the cause is, need not be that big.

She did not take another job and is not looking to move.  She doesn't have any kids and if she wanted kids you can do both.  If it were for some "personal" reasons that could have been said even if details were not given.  It says "mutally agreed" and while that is code word it need not be.  You can imagine something like "i'm sick of doing this, I need 6-12 months off"  EA: "we can't let you be gone for that long, how about 2 weeks?"  No deal worked out so she quit.

The only thing that bothers me is how this was handeled.  In most jobs you put in your 2 weeks notice, right.  Couldn't she have said something in her last grab bag or made her own announcement?  Instead she left and no one said anything.  She didn't say anything for 2 weeks prior to the announcment.  She cleaned out her office one week and the next week she did an interview on the terms that they keep quiet.  The the announcement was made and the intrerview released.  Someone might have thought it would be easier, or maybe it was just her idea, but to me that almost says pushed out the door.  But then again I am paranoid

I had a different image in my head of her all along.  I feel like I need a shower after reading that.

Agreed, as long as her husband works there..we'll never find out the real story.

IMO, this is not  a good sign... but it certainly isn't a harbinger of doom either....

Two games have a special place in my heart.  Everquest and DAoC.

Both of them have lost that magic that they once were.  I think that loss of the original vision as well as time made that magic die.  When I think of the good times I used to have playing those two games I long sooooo much to get that feeling back.

I can't help but think that this is a sign that everything is amok at the Mythic offices.  I don't want to be harsh like that, but my brain just leads me that way.

heh, gamers always think someones departure is about games. She is pregnant..lol.. She may want to be a mom. Givingreasons or blaming someone or something for something that may be a normal aspect of life is stupid. I had to laugh at these posts when I read them.

Nope she is not prego.  Missy is.  That is unless you are:

    1.  Her husband

    2.  Have an article saying so.

    3.  Have a pic you took of her with a date showing the big prego stomach.

LOL.  When DAOC was released, Mythic hired the two most vocal game critics off the market - Lum the Mad and Tweety.  Tweety wasn't really a game critic though - she gained her fame for posting that first rant anonymously on an EQ server message board.  SOE tracked her down and she lost her volunteer position as a guide and I believe she was banned from EQ as well (the ban may have been later rescinded).   If you don't know Lum the Mad (aka Scott Jennings) then you haven't been into MMOs very long.  Scott still writes some commentary at brokentoys.org, but he's a lot milder than he used to be since he still works in the industry.

As to why Sanya left?  That's anyone's guess.  "By mutual agreement" usually means that the powers that be won't give you what you want, so you take your ball and go home.  As Mythic was recently purchased by EA, it's possible that Mythic's customer relations department is getting merged with EA's customer relations department.  Lots of things may not have worked out to the mutual benefit of all parties.  As for why it wasn't announced, when people in that type of position give notice, they are usually not allowed to work it out because their positions are too sensitive.  Lots of times your system access will be cut off before you can get out the door.

I'm sure Sanya will surface elsewhere.  Sometimes the best career moves are those that aren't planned.

Sanya Thomas was a genuinely nice person. I am glad to have made her acquaintance back in the ancient days of DAoC. Mythic will not be the same without her. Oh...wait...it's no longer Mythic...it's EA Mythic. That explains that.

She left because people change jobs.  Some of you need to take your tinfoil hats off and relax.

She was just a PR person, she had no input on the direction of the game, she made no decisions.   Her job was to meet wtth players and make them feel good so they would keep paying their subscription fees.  She wasn't a developer or designer.

I always thought she came off like an arrogant condecending asshat and wondered why she had that position in the first place.  Any of you read her website before she got that job?  If you did, you would wonder why too.

Did she come off as arrogant as your post?

It's a shame that she's left Mythic. I met her a few months back at Comic Con in NYC and she was absolutely awesome. It was obvious that she loved her job and understood the games that she was advertising. Plus she was playing Comic Con Bingo (the last one she needed to win was a person wearing tentacles).

Hope she does well in her future, whatever that may be.

As for the person who called her an arrogant asshat. I never got that vibe, myself.

Wasn't she there for several years? Not many jobs are worth keeping that long, especially stressful ones like being a community liaison.

No doom and gloom imo. Mythic is currently riding a wave of momentum.

Being a huge gamer I've noticed that EA has this 'King Midas' thing going on with almost everything they get into, and it's not gold they turn things into...more like feces.  So it wouldn't surprise me in the least that Sanya's leaving would have something to do with EA

Having joined right after the release of S.I. (also being my first MMO), I've grown accustomed to the "Grab Bag" amongst her various other postings. However, I'm just more or less glad that I had stopped playing before she left (really forced since Iraq doesn't have a way to play...well without insane lag that is).  Having been and seen all the seemingly uncalled for nerfings and over nerfings (though granted I'll admit some were called for, even ones on my own realm(s)), that would have added one more bitter taste to what was one a glorious game struggling to be what had once enticed gamers to pay the roughly $25 a month (I think that was what the price use to be).

However her leaving shows something, and maybe I'm the only one who sees this and I'm just crazy with "conspiracy theories" like that ^.^, but if a high profile and well known critic of gaming that is FOR your game (though I think her personal opinion has been known a few times which just means shes human) ups and leaves under "mutual agreement", and no other company is jumping for joy that they have a new, well known team member named Sanya, then that means my focus for her leaving would primarily rest on EA themselves.  Of course there could be other circumstances, but all the ones that I can think up would end with a bad employee being fired/let go (i.e. sexual harassment), unless EA lets stuff like that go on.  But I don't know, I don't work there, heck I have a serious distaste for EA.

I digress though, and like the topic originator pretty much said, I'm into the story behind the story.
