I dount that the 100K figues are for the UK alone. Most likely it's for world wide sales. Still, that's not too shabby for only being available to the general public for a little over a week.
Codemasters Online Gaming today announced that the most anticipated PC title of 2007 The Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar today officially claimed the number one spot across the UK. Codemasters Online Gaming has seen unprecedented demand for the game since pre-orders went live last month with 100,000s of players already packing their bags and moving to Middle-earth.
Where does that say 100K? It does say hundreds of thousands, but doesn't mention a number anyplace. As for 100K worldwide....there were around 6-700 K preorders, and I'd guess at least half turned into actual sales (probably more, but may as well be reasonable). Odds are, from the busy servers (at least the US servers, which are all I can see) and the forum traffic, it's very likely topped 500K worldwide.

Not to mention, Codemasters only deals with European Distribution, so it can't rightly quote any worldwide sales. Likely the 100,000s of players is a figure restricted to European sales. Figuring the number of servers that Europe has and a cap population of 15k to 20k, the total is probably around 150k. It's all in the ballpark of what you'd expect.

anyway you cut it they are moving some boxes, I would love to see some hard figures but just guessing I would say appx 250 K worldwide plus or minus 50 K
According to Gamasutra Lotro has topped the US and UK PC sales charts the last two weeks. While it doesn't give numbers I would assume you'd have to be pushing a large number of boxes to do that.
I wonder how many of those 100k thought it wasnt an mmo and whined on amazon that it has a fee rofl.

But... mmo gamers are still the tenetiny minority in gamers world wide (ie. less than 19% of ALL gamers play MMO,) the majority of gamers are console owners (where one sees Sony 'winning' the console war in American and European regions with 36% of the market, with Nintendo 'capturing' second place at 34% and Microsoft finishing third at 30%. Japan, however, is expected to be "dominated by Nintendo [51% through 2011] and Sony [44%].)
