So you're the kind of person that doesn't drink german beer, because Hitler did too?

Seriously.... if blizzard restricted it's products to 5 year olds or imposed barney logos then MAYBE you would have a point:

Point is that many, successful, adults (like myself except for the successful part) enjoy blizzard products.

Yes blizzard's track record will definitely play a role in my purchase of the game, but will I refuse to play a game because somebody in a different age group happens to enjoy the same product?

No. Why even make games for all ages then? Why not partition all games into bloody, gorefesting, hardcore pornographic, sex-fests and barney jump 'n runs?

I have more faith in blizzard, a company that is run by competent, wealthy individuals, than I do in a small percentage of the teenage population that feels like rebelling against the big labels will make them cool (what do you say nowadays? 133t?)

For the moment, I'll put my vote on WoW.

EQ2 is a little more realistic, serious looking type of MMORPG, and WoW has that sort of Comicbook-ish, fantasy feel to it that EQ2 lacks. It's just personal preferance, can't exactly say which of the two would be better. In my book, the two fall into two seperate categories.

    EDIT: When I voted, the votes were 50.0% EQ2 / 50.0% WoW. They're still fifty-fifty. LoL?

Seriously now,  The Hitler thing is un-needed.  My own opinion for what I want in a mmo differs greatly from many, I know.   L2, for example, was inundated with immature me me me players who had no respect for their fellow player.   This is why L2 will never succeed in the U.S.   It will maintain a small core following but most of the adult players who were playing eq and enjoyed the community aspect of it will be back for eq2.

Sorry got off the subject.  To each his own.  I never said Blizzard was a bad company.  It's not.  It's quite a reputable company.   I have no doubt that the finished product will be polished and an enjoyable ride for a time.   However, community is important in any mmog.   Community  and content is what keeps the majority of the player base intact and coming back for more.

Like I said before, the community in EQ did not tolerate childish crap and if you acted like a punk EVERYBODY knew it.  If you ninja'd you were marked, if you ks'd you were marked.  If you acted like a total tool  you were marked.  There were consequences to being a immature jerk.

    Just my two cents.

my money is most certainly on EQ2. Yeah it may not be that different from EQ1 but is that really a bad thing? I really enjoyed EQ and I really like the look of it, and lets face it, if i'm going to be spending hours a day playing a game then no matter how deep it is, how it looks plays a big part of that, and i just dont like the cartooney look of WoW.

I've nothing against blizzard, wc2 + starcraft + diablo1/2 are some of my fave games ever, but i just dont like the look of WoW and from the reports being forced to play a game in a certain style and being forced to rest before getting your XP again just isn't something i want to do if i'm going to pay cash to play.

    EQ2 hands down

Everyone has an opinion here and that is great but guess what both of these games are targetted to a little different audience which is great!  I bet there are no 2 people that want exactly the same thing from a massive multiplayer these days. But having such a variety of options coming down the pipe this and next year is certainly exciting for us MMORPG fanatics!

That blat aside, this is how I see the two games!

    --- EQ2 ---

Will not be Everquest plain and simple, so to make comparisions doesn't do EQ 2 justice. EQ 2 is a new game that is a little faster, a litte gentler to the newbs and will probably have just as much depth as Everquest eventually.

From what I have read, it appears EQ 2 will be a slower paced more involved game then WoW. This will certainly make some people happy and some less happy. I also believe that EQ 2 will have a better community and more roleplaying.

    --- WoW ---

A great new game that has a ton of promise. The more I hear and read the more I equate WoW to City of Heros, but in a fantasy setting. Why...mostly the pace and the questing. They are catering the game around a fast pace with quests being the core of the game (that is City of Heros). WoW will have the additional benefits (over CoH) of crafting and loot, which to me adds a bit to the game, but to each is own.

I personally love the fact that Blizzard has jumped into the MMORPG market with WoW, they turn out very polished, great games.

    --- My Preference ---

Each of these games will have their strong and weak pionts. Personally I will be trying them both. Which I will stick with is up in the air. Why? Becuase I tend to stick with the game that all my friends play and that usually amounts to 1 game. I mean MMORPGs are all about being social (for the most part). Anyone who plays one longer for a few months is usually doing it becuase they have RL and/or in-game friends to play with.

--- So my suggestions for those undecided ---

If you want the slower more involved more time consuming MMORPG probably go with EQ 2.

If you want a faster paced, less time consuming game try WoW.

If you really want a treat or can't decide yet, get them both and give them both a fair shake :)

Either way you cut it, both these games will make a ton of people happy!

Beta'd: Neocron, Planetside, ShadowBane, Horizons, City of Heros, Saga of Ryzom, Lineage II, WoW Stress Test

Played: EQ, Shadowbane, DAoC, SWG, Anarchy Online, Asherson's Call 2. Earth and Beyond, City of Heros, EQ

Playing: WAITING FOR WOW and EQ 2

I will go for WoW, think it looks like a very interesting game, I'm abit afraid that the B.Net kiddies will ruin alot tho, but hopefully their parents won't pay a monthly fee for them.

I have never liked EQ much, abit too slow gameplay and too much camping and I don't have much interest in EQ2 because I think it's mostly made to get EQ with a better graphic engine, alot will be diffrent tho ofcourse, but I think the base will be very much the same, seems like it will be almost 100% PvM too, except maybe duels or arena fights and I think that can be abit boring.

EQ is the most successful 3D MMOG and the game that most companies follow as standard when making a MMOG and EQ2 will be a huge success too, I don't doubt that....I will try it if WoW fails.

Someone always has to write a super-long thread covering all political, racial, religious, and sexual points of view. WoW for sure people. Just because EQ was the first widely recognized doesn't mean they're gonna pull a rabbit, or any other furry mammal for that matter, out of their ass.

It's Blizzard for Christ's sake!! image

im not planning on touching either of them with a 50 foot poll, but i gotta say... WoW > EQ2...

the only thing i could see EQ2 having better then WoW is community...

WoW will probably have one of the, if not THE worst communities EVER... but from what i've seen/heard (which is pretty much everything aside from playing the games), WoW > EQ2...

... hey does anybody even talk about UX:O anymore?

i will be going everquest 2, now dont get me wrong im sure WOW will be a nice gam eand everything but there graphics are horriable. yes i know graphics dont make the game but think about how the game will look a lil down the line, new technology will be out that everquest can take advantage of but unless they do somthing big in WOW (yes i know they did a hug GFX upgrade in everquest) i dont see that game getting as good as it could get. but thats just my opinion,

many people might like WOw because it will have good game play and not everyone has good computers for everquest, but i know my computer should run everquest decently thats why im going for everquest 2.

Down with market-dominating business!!! Down with Everquest!!!!! Actually...you could say that Blizzard is a dominating business. Well, I still hate Everquest. It's so uninspired. SO MUCH TAKEN FROM LORD OF THE RINGS!!! image

If I was gonna pick on atm, i'd say eq2, just because, BUT I would only paly eq2 if they promised to stop at 1 or 2 expansions, they are up to like 8 now, thats alot of money to spend if ya buy them all right after they come out, 8x50 or 60 is like... alot :O. Thats only thing I disliked about eq, after the third expansion came out, I was like.. grr, and then I went back recently and gave it another chance, cant make any money because no one needs teleports and theres level 65 bards that can run through hg's and kill them in 12 seconds with their song. So, if you are rich and plan to paly for a long time, eq2.. if you jsut gonna paly until something better, eq2 :O

Sorry could you explain this statement please?  While your at it explain to me what mmo hasn't stolen something from Lord of the rings.  Besides the obvious sci-fi mmo's.    When EQ first came out it was awesome.   Great community nobody read the boards because everyone was too busy playing the game.   There was a real feeling of immersion, which UO didn't have nor did any other game.   Of course now it's all packaged and boxed up garbage but I don't feel the whole "they've taken so much from lord of the rings" argument floats.    Any game with an Orc in it has the potential to be called a LOTR clone.

I've been waiting for EQ2 for a long time.  I've tried a few other MMO's after I played EQ (which I've recently gone back to)  and nothing could hold my interest.

I think one of the best things EQ had going for it was the community.  For instance, playing FFXI I tried my darndest to find a player association (guild) to get into and there just didn't seem to be any.  I also don't like the trend lately that an MMO is released over seas first then brought here a year later.  So when you sigh up you're already playing catchup with the people in game.

With that said, WoW looks to be a great new game.  Personally I wouldn't mind giving both a try.  So if I don't get into the EQ2 beta, I'll get a couple months of WoW in before I try EQ2.

In response to your...uninspired message: You are correct. Many MMORPGs have something taken from LOTR. But EQ has more taken from Tolkiens classic than any other game I can think of. image

Theres no point in arguing with you I guess...Everquest people are very uninspired and it's probably beyond your possible dimension of thinking to comprehend anything being better than EQ. image

That "Nobody was on the boards because they were playing" excuse was a good try too! image Nah, I know EQ was popular I'm just kidding. I should never have gotten in to this argument.image

Hmm un-inspired?  I haven't played eq in about 2 years.  I've had a steady diet of AO/DAoC/FFXI/SWG and the like so I am not a eq fanboi.    The point I'm trying to make is that most fantasy based mmo's take from tolkien.   So your argument that eq steals from tolkien more than anyone else is pretty much null and void.  Unless in their new expansions they've got zones called mordor and npc's called Gandalf.
