LOTR Online - Returning

malfarionmalfarion Member UncommonPosts: 25

Dear LOTR community, I am calling out for a response, about how the current state of LOTR really is.

I have read that there have come player housing and updates and such, but what I would like to know more about is:

  • Can there be several of people in a house? I know you can in a guild castle thingy.
  • How is the community at the moment? great/bad?
  • Is it even worth coming back (I have the game, played it when it came out - didnt catch me back then, some things were missing, but perhaps I didnt give it enough time either):
  • Will my laptop be able to run it without the biggest problems?  (see laptop information below).

    ------------------

    System Information

    ------------------

    Operating System: Windows XP Professional

    BIOS: Ver 1.00PARTTBL

    Processor: Genuine Intel(R) CPU           T2300  @ 1.66GHz (2 CPUs)

    Memory: 1022MB RAM (DDR2)

    DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)

256MB NVIDIA GeForce Go 7300 TurboCache.

I hope you would please answer my questions - Thank you.

~Malfarion / Sacrox.

Here are my thoughts that I posted a few threads down. As for player housing, that is one of the main things they are looking to implement, and somewhat soon.

Having played MMO's since UO, EQ, EQ2, AC1, AC2, SWG, EVE, WoW and a few others. I'll admit, I had alot of fun when I played WoW, but I can say that LOTRO is the by the far most fun i've had in an MMO in many, many years.

I find my self reading and enjoying every quest. I constantly have at least 30 unique quests to do at any given time.

I don't feel the slightest need to power level because the game is simply fun at all levels. The music system is unique and the Lore inspired just about every fantasy MMO out. You wont find a better, more engrossing story in any other MMO. The classes are fun, the world is beautiful, the players are (almost all) nice and helpful, it's one of the best communities i've seen (at least on my server, Elendilmir). It's not an item grind like WoW, which is so very refreshing after spending 2 years playing it. There is practically 0 grind. You will never really be mindlessly killing monsters for XP. Monster Play, the 'PvP' system, is like another game in itself with it's own quests and areas.

There is so much about this game that I enjoy, and for just having been out a week, it's almost bug free. There are over 2500 quests givers at launch (most with multiple and chain quests), not to mention that there is already a large content update coming out next month.

I will admit, I thought LOTRO was going to be just another trash MMO, but I was absolutely blown away.

That's my opinion, anyway. I don't see why some are so quick to knock another game, like it matters if people think one game is better than another, especially when they never even gave it a chance. The whole, I play X game so Y game is stupid thing, is childish. Who knows, you might actually have fun if you can put aside the need to put down anything that isn't WoW.

The first time I saw the sunset over the Shire, my jaw dropped. This isn't a bash against WoW, i'm just trying to get people to stop being so judgemental.

    And now, some screenshots.

Hey i'll give you couple quick points:

    -Looks great

-Runs very smooth on a medium system

    -Follows tolken lore

    -only 9.99 monthly sub

    -easy to find a group

    -good community

    -awesome storyline

-Titles and traits from killing things

    -high populations

    -develop your own music

there a few that i like about it....try to find a buddy key, thats the best way to know if you would like it or not.

I also played wow and SWG and liked them a lot, but this game im having some actual fun with it just casually playing at my own pace its great.

The montly sub is 14.99 for anyone who didn't pre-order the game and thus was a founder. Just a clarification in case you go to buy the game and find out the monthly price is not what you thought it would be. Still worth it by far if you ask me.  I've been in many beta's and watched many games launch - none has ever been as ready as LotR:O.  Turbine is doing a great job taking care of their community and work VERY HARD for us.  So if you join in, welcome to Middle-Earth

BOYCOTTING EA / ORIGIN going forward.

Yeah that right 14.99 for non founders thanks for corrections, but still totally worth it, theres also a free content upgrade coming out in JUNE.

If u r looking for good graphs and good gameplay the game is for you.. There really aint any pvp, but the PvE content is kinda huge..

Thank you everyone for giving me those informations  I am so sure about buying it now and quitting WoW/SWG/GW/CoV and some other MMORPGS (even though I would quit SWG sooner or later, they ruined the bloody game -.-')

Just one quick question, is there a lot of people playing LOTR online? or is it dead like Vanguad is when you start? and is it beginner friendly?.

    Thank you everyone <'3

EDIT :  Buddy key not wanted any longer.

Yea it sounds intriguing. Does anyone have an extra buddy key I could try? I've been looking for the next MMO since I quit WoW about 6 months ago but most of the stuff out looks like it fell off the back of a dump truck.
  • harrisondharrisond Member Posts: 60
hey glad you like what you here, and if you get a buddy key i suggest you dont play on brandywine server, its also packed and pretty much always a queve to get in...and you have no worries about the population in this games very healthy, i would expect more servers to be launched by the time there expansion comes out in june.

Level 25 is hard lol . Almost everything is an elite mob Been in the Lone lands zone for 1 1/2 weeks leveled 2 times .To me that is a good thing cause it shows how the difficulty curve is going to be , like easy mode then a 90 degree to a harder mode. There was no real gradient, it went from lala land , to omg im going to die land

Yeah there lots of good group quests above 25, but what i noticed is that alota people are trying to group 2-3 level quests above them, and its just ruins the group, so i recommend group for the level its states unless you have a great healer and tank

So I would like to know what are the good things in LOTR Online, like "is there player housing - yeah/no" (I am a old SWG player ;p)

So if a few could tell me about the game, it would help greatly! oh and, is there any RP? ^_^
One thing i liked about LOTR's as an ex-swg player was the hunter class. It feels like playing a pre-cu ranger. Tracking, campfires for the group to regen or craft. Traps that work! Been a long time since i had that feeling if ya know what i mean. Housing is coming later i hear. There is a huge ex-swg population playing this game..just mention swg in OCC chat and you'll see what i mean. The community here is almost as good as the old swg community too. Closest thing since IMO. Ask for a buddy key if ya wanna try it..i gave mine out already but im sure there is someone who'd be willing. Other than than that its your standard MMO stuff..but its the community that makes it funner in this game than others imo.

    See you in the dream..
The Fires from heaven, now as cold as ice. A rapid ascension tolls a heavy price.

Finally a healthy post of LOTRO!

Not some whinners replies with overated concepts of others mmorpg's.

Hell yeah this game is awesome from so many angles!, try it out u'll enjoy it very much.

And a piece of advice try to get into the history, quests are amazingly done!. If u Role Play this is your game, if u enjoy nifty GFX's this is your game, etc etc etc... just if u like PvP, be ready to expirience a new system of it according to LOTR lore, it' sjust awesome!

    Cheers!

    - Yes there can be several people at the same house. YOu can make special permissions and access to anyone you like.

    - Community improved after the initial euphoria. It's stable now. Nothing exceptional, but not bad either.

    - It is surely worth to come back no matter at what stage. It's not an elitist game where people fight to be first. There are plenty of people at any level range and it's not a big deal to find a group. This is where the game shines I believe. The very casual attitude of the people playing it.

    - With your computer I don't know. The game is mostly about atmosphere and the graphics (at least for me). I enjoy the lore, reading the quests and get in touch with the atmosphere by the beatiful graphics. Personally I would probably not play Lotro on your computer, because I would lose that.

    REALITY CHECK
