True immersion is...

True immerision is.... 1 character... first person view.   You play one character and see the world through your own eyes.

Multi-character play, 3rd person angle views, are all neat and fun, but they drive away from, not towards, a truly immersive in-game experience.

Well if you are talking about immerision than I do not know, but if you are talking about "immersion" then I can agree. I am not sure where you happened to have read "This game is the most immersive game from an MMORPG standpoint" though?

LoL... I'm not sure what the heck is going on with the topic of "immersion", but let's get real for a moment. To say that a 3rd person view will hinder a games ability to provide "immersion" for its user is down right crazy talk. I played Final Fantasy 11 Online for 3.5 years, during the beginning there were hardly ANY english speaking players. 98% of the time I spent in 3rd person view... I rarely ever went to 1st person view due to the fact that you can't really see everything around you. When you are in an area where space is tight and you run the risk of agroing mobs and getting your party killed. You DO NOT want to be in first person view, the risk taking a bad step is high. At least in FFXI it was, and I have played many other mmorpg's where the same applies. Guild-Wars is the only one I can think of where it doesn't really matter where you step because it's just hack-and-slash anyway. And I totally agree with the "it's a game" quote... immersion is totally up to the user... not the "view". Besides half the enjoyment of an mmorpg is looking at the armor/equipment you have obtained... don't like 3rd person? Go back to playing Virtua Cop for Sega Saturn.

I agree that first person is more immersive...but I still use third person about 20% of the time.

If this game is third person only, PnC only then screw it. We'll see soon enough I guess. But I like having options..in movement and view.

Ever tried playing an RTS with WASD? Asking for WASD in Granado Espada is like asking for WASD movement in a RTS game.

I dont see the point of having a game where you dont have to aim or dodge anything having only 1 character, having 3 characters gives you 3x as much interactivity which games like world of warcraft now a days seriously lack..

By immersion, I'm not talking about being into the game, I'm talking about feeling like you are the character, just a little bit.  To better understand, here is a scale:

    • play 1 character:  Most immersive
    • play 1 character with pet:  still immersive
    • play 2 characters:  somewhat immersive
    • play 3 characters:  less immersive
    • play 10 characters:  beginning to look like a tactical board game
    • play 100 characters:  this is a wargame, not really immersive at all
    • play 1,000,000 characters:  basically you are commanding an army; might as well be playing Risk or Axis & Allies.  Not immersive in the roleplaying sense.

Obviously, the more characters you control, the less you will feel like any one of their experiences are your own.  So, yes, more characters will make it easier to play and to level, but it might make it more difficult to get hooked, at least from a roleplaying perspective.

As far as my playstyle is concerned, I can fully agree with you.  I do not jump when playing a game in third person from a dramatic event, but I do in 1st person all the time.  I can really get into it.

You have to remember though, that each person has a different playstyle and taste when it comes to games.  Take my roommate for an example.   All he cares about is how many things he gets to kill and that the combat is fast paced.  He personally cannot immerse himself into a game otherwise.  Let's not even get into lore and background of games... he mocks me for ever reading it or caring about it.  heh....

So to each their own.  Each person has a different playstyle that unless catered to will not be able to immerse themselves into a game.

As for me? Bring on the lore, 1st person view, and old hooded story tellers in dark alleys...

Fugnudz why did you feel the need to start 2 topics on the same thing?

This game is not designed to be an immersive game ala EQ. It is more of a Diablo stlye hack n slash/dungeon crawl on steriods and is very enjoyable as such.

Do not try to pigeonhole every game into 1 set style.

I wouldnt call it a diablo style hack and slash, just not enough enemies to be that good.  And they are all rather cut and dry albeit the odd boss.
