OK you mgiht say I have been watching too much football, WWE, or playing too much street fighter or something. but from my perspective america has produced some of the toughest people the world has ever seen. Not kung fu wise no, but in toughest, being able to withstand pain long enough.
The fact that we are the fattest nation in the world has nothing to do with the fact that we eat a lot of meat...it has to do with the fact that the American work weak is one of the longest in the world, and there is more fast food readily available.
It does have to do with eating a lot of meat. Americans eat more meat than is healthy and not enough veggies. Rather than 1 serving of meat at a meal in the US people tend to eat 3 or more and often with less than a serving of veggies. Work week has little t do with it, poorer countries work more and have access to less healthy food and yet there are almost as physically healthy often, which is pathetic.
There isn't much faster and easier to store food than fruit, but Americans hardly eat enough. The american diet is seriously messed up. Nothing wrong with eating meat, but don't eat so much and eat grains/veggies/fruits for more of your caloriesyou will quickly become healthier.
Do you have a single statistic to back any that up? Or are you just assuming because it's the fun thing to do?
Your argument is like a two legged dog with an eating disorder...weak and unbalanced.
I don't think that starving a baby to death has anything to do with being vegan. Breastmilk is free, and it is right there all the time. It doesn't oppress animals in anyway. It's just a nice thing you can do for your kid. Outside of that, there's soy formula. I am not sure, it may have some milk protein (casein or whatever) in it, but keeping your own child healthy > staying true to any idealistic principle.
They should have read a book or two if they weren't going to consult a pediatrician or even just someone else who had kids. You don't give juice to infants that young. At that age, it's breastmilk or formula, and that's all they need. You *might* be advised to give them a little juice if they were constipated. MAYBE. I buy soy milk on occasion, and it says right on the freakin' carton that it is NOT to be used as a substitute for baby formula.
Not eating meat doesn't make you stupid, but it sure doesn't automatically make you any smarter, either. Perhaps one should substitute the word "dumbass" for "vegan" in the article. Then the whole thing makes more sense.
... This is where I draw the line: __________________.
"they're not vegans, they're baby killers" are they not allowed to be both..... (poor joke i know) yea anyway why on earth did they not just breast feed? or ask a pro for feeding advice
Granted, I think vegans are as much a bunch of overbearing extremists as those that deride them. Being an omnivore, I eat raw vegetables, and raw meat. I've also been known to get some exercise in, as well.
However, as I am allergic to wheat/glutten, and there are more than a few others that are as well, I'm going to state make believe theory as fact, and say that humans are clearly not meant to eat wheat/grains.
As to the parents in question, I don't see why the article specifically pointed towards their being Vegan as if it were the cause, rather than just their lame ass excuse for murder. Had they used regular milk, and apple juice, the child would be just as dead. I don't even think a newborn would be able to digest milk, let alone apple juice. There is also, as stated by at least one other person, soy based formula they could have given the child, or possibly breast milk, though it's possible the mother was unable to breastfeed.
As for the excuse that they knew nothing was wrong until the child died? Bullshit. 200% Pure. Unless they both spent their entire life living in the dark under a rock, there is no way in hell they would have missed the telltale signs of starvation, unless they did so purposely.
http://www.ted.com/talks/view/id/92 It is part one in a series, educate yourself on the myths of the "Western World" compared the "Third World". You believe a myth that the "Western World" is healthier and lives longer even even with a higher quality food source.
1: Don't tell me what I believe
2: You just wasted 20 minutes of my life by posting a video that had nothing whatsoever to do with the types of food consumed by the populations of countries. He didn't even mention what foods the people in these countries ate. If you're going to post a 20 freaking minute video, at least make it be somewhat relevent. He talked about the relative health of the different countries, not which countries ate more or less meat/dairy.
I'm seriously pissed...why would you have me watch a 20 minute video that didn't even MENTION the disparity between countries that consume a lot of meat and those that do not? How can you watch this video and automatically assume a corrolation? Because you want there to be one?
Your argument is like a two legged dog with an eating disorder...weak and unbalanced.
My god, you do know that it wasn't veganism itself that killed the baby don't you? It was ignorant parents, not veganism. Seriously for some of you who claim to be so well educated and open-minded. Reprimand the parents for their stupidity, but don't give them a life sentence unless they purposely killed the baby. Sure they were ignorant, but hopefully they will learn. If not then give a life sentence, I'm pretty certain that these parents are incredibly sad that their child died. I seriously doubt they're just sitting around eating salads and saying, "Hey where'd they baby go?"
Unfortunately, ignorance of the law and life is no alibi. They should and are receiving the correct punishment for their crime.
That said, unless they were mentally retarded, they knew the child was starving.

Well maybe they should give the guy a mandatory vessectamy(sp?) or if you really want to be teach him a lesson, how about we cut his balls off.
Excellent suggestion. Of course, the PC liberal crowd would oppose it as being "inhumane".
hay, im pritty liberal and I say a mandatory vessectamy would be great, heck do the same to the wife, after all She gave birth to the child, and is in some ways more responsable. (maternail instincts anyone?)
as for death sentance... not sure, I would have to see the child around the time of death. if it is horrably skinny then yes death would be apropriate. because that means they basicly tourchered a baby to death through starvation. (babys cry when their hungry right, how could you ignore constant crying??)
as for veganism as a hole... I don"t see how it helps the envroment, after all how much jungle is destroyed for soy plantations?
If you really want to help the enivroment eat "Rats" after all their are billions of them. and they have hundreds of baby rats each year (most of which starve or are killed buy poision and such) go out and harvest some from the streets and have your self a feast.
sure people make mistakes but when the mistakes result in the end of a life there punishment is magnified. and in this case id say it is oviously not a reasonable mistake, there for the parents should be blamed fully for the death of the baby, as if they murdered it.

Some people think Vegans are off their rocker.
Perhaps it's time to rethink that
