Ok so I am thinking of possibly buying this game. There are so many mixed opinions that I dont really know where to start. I played WoW and the leveling was fun at first but then got boring untill level 60 when the PvP fun started. Asheron's Call was one of my more favorite RPGs of all time. I am more of a PvP person but I realize this game doesnt have that much in it. I am a rather big fan of the LOTR series so I figured I would give it a shot. So I was wondering if someone could tell me what this game compares to the most. I hear WoW from some people EQ2 from some.
This might have been posted before but I've been looking through the forums for about 45 mins now deciding if I should take the ride to buy the game right now =D

This is a tough question you are asking. Cause everyone is differant. I could say it is alot like this game or that cause i draw comparisions from what i have played. Alot of people who have played wow say it is easy to get to know this game cause the UI and functions are so similar. Others say it is alot like eq2.
The only real thing i can tell you is you need to play it yourself. Do it with an open mind and try to set all of your pre concieved opinions of what a game is suppose to be like and enjoy this game for what it is. A great game. That is of course my opinion. If you know someone who has bought the game and they still have their buddy key see if you can get it from them. Or see if they will let you try the game out.
If you enjoyed the leveling portion of WoW I would have to say you'd probably like LotRO. It's similar to WoW in that it's heavily quest based, however the quests can be far better than WoW's. Sure, you have a lot of filler "Kill X, Get Y" quests, but you also have epic quests that simply can't be touched by any other MMO's questing system. You're also a big fan of LotRO so you will probably get a lot of enjoyment wondering around looking at stuff, which the game also rewards through it's deed system. Basically, most things you could want to do in an MMO there is a reward in the form of a Deed for. Want to explore ruins? You'll probably earn a trait. Want to kill mass numbers of wights? You'll probably earn a title and a trait.
The PvP system is underrated simply because the poor Open Beta people didn't really get to enjoy it as it's designed to be enjoyed. There is a LOT to the pvp system and it's a great deal of fun. The following link is probably the best in depth look at the PvP system I've read. And you don't have to be max level on your player character to enjoy it from the "dark side". You only have to get to level 10 and you get to experience end-game monster play as one of Sauron's. Within 30 days monster play shoudl be in full swing and we will see some really cool stuff going on in there. (Shores of Evendim, first update in June, will add a bunch of cool rewards for the player side of PvP, giving even more reason to battle it out)

What I can honestly say my friend, is that in my many, many years of playing MMO's has anyone ever once told me "you'll love/hate this game for x reason" and that reason be the reason why I do or don't decide to play it long-term.. Yes, of course this means you have to buy a copy, give it a whirl for 30 days.. But trust me, everyone is different, everyone has different tastes, likes/dislikes, etc..
What I will say though is that in my personal opinion, LotRO has some of the most amazingly in-depth quests I have ever seen, a storyline which shows the background concepts maturity and above all, a game which is actually ready to play upon release! (unlike some others which have graced our shelves recent *cough* VG *cough*).
Have a play, see what you like; you may have completely different tastes to me, in which case you might find the PvP Monster Play amazing.. either way, I think you'll find something you like, but try it
Thanks for the info guys. One more thing I havnt really looked at the box so I was wondering is this game able to run on Vista? Alot of my old online games are a hastle to patch on vista.
Edit: Also I was wondering How big is the weapon/armor database. Are there like 10 weapons for each class or like 100s.
What kind of end-game will there be?
As far as end game stuff goes, Turbine have already announced that there will be a large content pack released in the not-so-distant future, and that Monster Play will get a lot more attention, to make sure that it becomes a compelling PvP experience with real benefits for those that take part.
Thats about all I have heard... but it's Turbine... they've probably got more up their sleve
