    I will admit, I am not very religious at all. Perhaps, so far as to be considered agnostic. Not for lack of understanding mind you. I have taken part in numerous flavors of christiantiy and taken the time to research various metaphysical disciplines. As such, I seem to be missing the point, if there is one, to the original post.



    How is WoW evil? I mean, what about having religious imagery makes the game evil? Religious icons are used in all sorts of art and entertainment. As a result, is all such art/entertainment then evil? What about playing the game further contributes to evil? If the "devil" portrayed as you point out, is portrayed as a bad guy, doesn't that merely enforce, and not damage, religious/christian opinion? I mean, if they wanted you to do the devil's work, wouldn't they make him a quest giver (perhaps the kid in SW keep)?



    As far as I can tell, and as your initial post illustrates, religious imagery is extemely effective in provoking a reaction. It seems, if Blizzard was consiously using christian imagery in their product, they are banking on the self-righteous follower wanting to destroy the evil character.



    Maybe the original post was a joke. As it has been pointed out, professing a belief in something and only putting forth a 25% effort in understanding it, definetly puts your convictions in question. I would think the people who only have knowledge of a 1/4 of any one thing could do more harm trying to make their case then had they spent that time further expanding their knowledge of the topic.

    A)  What message?  Last time I checked the players are fighting against the demonic forces.  The game must have some sort of villain for the heroes to battle against.  What better than big ugly monsters and demons?



    B)  The concept and image of a portal is as old as storytelling.  Fantasy and sci-fi have long used magical doorways or wormholes as a plot device to allow for instant travel between distant settings.



    C)  You want to see a game with a disturbing message?  Do some research into the "Left Behind" series.  The point of those games is to convert or murder those who were not taken up in the Rapture.

    Second, go find me a decent proof of "The Devil" being in the bible, I dare you.
    And don't bring me some half-arsed "Oh but this must mean the Devil because I think it's roughly close to my idea of what Satan should be"

    Religion is the worst invention ever, it has only brought mass murder and wars, nothing good came out of it, all what jesus does in the books are what should be "common sense" but since he was so special he was ofcourse the only one who had to be like that right?  Geeze.



    WoW is not the devil, Blizzard isn't either, they are just a bunch of money loving bastards that's it... learn to love/hate the moneymaking companies.

    Just some facts about that game that prove your ignorance.



    First off, Illidan was not invented in WoW. He's been in Warcraft lore since the beginning. So for Illidan's appearance to come as a surprise just proves you haven't researched anything.



    Second, the team behind Diablo? They don't work at Blizzard anymore. They left during the making of WoW (or whoring out warcraft, whichever floats your boat) to make Hellgate: London. Another game where you fight the devil.



    Thirdly, another Diablo thing. Did you ever get to the end? Notice how the last battle was the devil? Yeah, they're really sending subliminal satanic messages there.

    So again, being as you are "fighting evil" or what have you, what is the evil message and how are pixels rendered on a screen evil? So far, I would like to believe you are serious, but your technique is similar to that of a person who just wants to keep a thread alive. Obviously you've met with some success in that aspect.



    Assuming you are serious on some level, I am trying to understand what exactly is evil in all this. Can you be more specific then presenting people with a moving target of what you perceive as evil? If it is the message, then what is the evil message? If it is a character, then what makes it evil versus a tool to sell copies of a game? Can you spell out where the masses are being led astray rather then just saying "trust me, it's evil"?

    Yes, if the game has a demonic /evil message please enlighten us poor slobs that don't understand, your ever enlightened views of all things good and evil!  Make a point, so far all you have said is the game is evil well prove it!I am not questioning your faith just your rationality and the fervor in which you persue your faith! It is religious zealots like you that started the crusades and murdered thousands of people that did not believe the way you do!

    To the OP: Please, for the love of all that is good, type in sentences.

    I also highly doubt that Blizzard attempted to replicate Satan in any shape or form. Demonic, perhaps, but not Satan him/itself.

    Again, what message are you referencing for those of us who don't get it. We are asking you to elaborate on your point of view. Using all caps doesn't make vague answers any more clear. Referencing the Lore, it is fantasy. I don't think it ever claimed to be a factual history of events so I don't think you can rightly call it a lie so much as fantastic entertainment. For that matter, any fantasy or sci-fi focused game will have a lore that is made up in order to create motivation and provide a guide of things that might influence your character's interactions. So how is that evil if it merely serves to entertain and does not compel one to do 'evil'?



    I think, what you see as people "argueing beside the point of what (you) are saying" is more people trying to understand exactly what it is you are saying. If you can possibly state your thoughts in a clear and concise manner as opposed to casting a wide net of accusations and narrowing down from there, you might get more meaningful dialog.

    Illidan is a night elf who made a pact with the demons.  Satan was not banished for 10,000 years.  Illidan did because he's not trustworthy and jealous over a girl and is a selfish leader that did more harm to his brother than good.  Read the story.
