Vanguard Patching...forever.

Hello everyone,



I just got a buddy key from my friend at work, he didn't give me his media, as I just assumed there as a way to DL the client online.  I found a link to it on the Vanguard forums, and started the patching process, it said on the forums to expect somthing like 8-12 hours depending on connection ( I have cable).



Well, I let it run over night, and through the afternoon, checked the status, and the time remaining seems to have gone...up.



Has anyone else had this problem?  I would really like to at least give this game a shot, but the whole patching forever thing is sort of...well, annoying.

It's a big game, 17 gigs+.



That download time may be a tad unusual but I probably wouldn't worry. Give it some more time. I can say I've seen time display errors before during installation/patching that weren't accurate.

I had the same issue, but my friend who I resubscribed with did not.  I had to cancel the patcher and restart it from time-to-time; I think it was my firewall and other security software but not exactly sure.





If you go to, I think, it is "view details" and look for it making progress; if it pauses, I would restart it.





Edit:  Oh!  You are downloading the game? It is MASSIVE!  Therefore, I am sure it would take a very long time on a digital download.  I bought the CDs for the game.

no I understand that its a big download, but its just really strange because the time actually goes up.



I restarted the Download and it has gone from around 6 hours to 7 hours and 38 minutes.  That just doesn't seem right.



I just wanna play, is that so much to ask?



I really dont mind it taking so long, I just want to make sure it..you know, works before my 10 day trial is up.

I had the exact same problem with patching EQ 2, which took me around 4 days. ROFL. 







It will eventually complete, still not sure if it is a patcher or digital download, but the patcher took me a while as well.  As I said, if you cancel and restart it that helped ME but I think it was my security software that slowed it down.  My friend repatched and it took him around one and a half hours.

the cancel restart thing actually does seem to be working, I closed and restarted and it went from 7+ hours to 4.  So I guess I will keep doing that, thanks a lot for the advice.

Try patching from Afghanistan lol. It's been updating since Saturday night and I am now at 124 hours remaining. That is after playing the cancel/restart game with the patcher too.

I recently re-subscribed today and I downloaded and patched, took about 6-7 hours.

I think it was around 7 hours that took me to patch; that sounds right.

Unfortunatly  I think you download it in parts so estimated time remaining is for each part.

There are 2 ways that I know of to D/L the game, using the launchpad method (it sounds like the OP is doing this) or D/L'ing in secitons from here

Back when I bought the digital download I tried the launchpad first, but had similar probs to the OP. I found the link above to be more succesful. The sections are still big enough that its worth grabbing a D/L manager like GetRight or some such so that you dont lose progress if things go awry during the D/L.

I would say as long as the file names are changing on your status screen it should be chugging along ok.  I had the media and patched the additional contents... I think that was 6 gig.  Took 5 hours I think.  The game might be much bigger that 17 gig now though, they've patched almost every week since launch.

D/L a 17g client? Not a chance.

I just reinstalled it on Fri. Took roughly 30-35 mins to install start to finish. Patching took around 1.5 hours, give or take 10 mins. All told, I was back in game about 2 hours after I slipped the first dvd in.

Thanks a lot, this actually worked much better for me, sounds like I am not the only one who was having problems with this, so thats good to know.
