Playing SWG again

WNxReflexWNxReflex Member Posts: 67

Wow!!!!

Okay, it's been awhile since I've played SWG, but I resub'd today and holy heck, this game rocks.  I don't know what to do now, Vanguard or Star Wars Galaxies, I am leaning towards SWG because I love Sci-Fi and Star Wars much more over High Fantasy.

The game is much more action orientated than it was in the past. granted it's not the old game, but it's Star Wars, and I am actually enjoying the game.  I got to level 7 in a few hours and I look forward to playing more tomorrow.

I've got to agree with you.   I just started the 14 day trial and I'm very impressed with a lot of the things I'm experiencing.

And no matter what people say about the game, it's STAR WARS!

For someone who was seven when Episode IV came out, that alone is enough.

... even if I can't jump over a 2 inch curb.  What the heck were they thinking with that?

This guy is on the SOE payroll, you don't even see the NGE'ER fanboys on the SOE forums spitting dribble like this. The Old version of SWG is the best MMO of all time. If you took the time to master it. The new version of the game is a dumbed down version for 12-15 year old waterhead babies.

well, im waiting for chapter six to come out, they seem to be adding tons of new things and bounty hunter would finally be a viable class to play so that'll be very nice if it turns out to be=)
  • BelzybubBelzybub Member Posts: 20

Oh one more thing to add to that. The old version took skill the NGE does not, maybe that is why you like it. Everything spoon fed to ya.

To own the game now, all that is needed is a beer in one hand a cig in your mouth and the other hand on the left mouse button. You can macro everything in the game. I held the only place where pvp ever happens by myself for 5 hours. I got called a hacker for another month after that. Macro and point. Oh you want to change to the new flavor of the month? 3 clicks your done grinding. GG SOE.

When you get to about lvl 40 let us know how you like it. Let me guess, you took the Jedi or BH profession too, right? You are making a snap judgement on very little knowledge. Be better informed. Try all the profs and everything, then I'd love to hear your opinion.

To put everything to rest about 'Old game was better' 'You rolled a BH or Jedi'

    I am playing a Smuggler

I played old SWG, I was there since launch.  I agree, this isn't the old SWG I loved, and most of you loved, that game is dead to me, but this new SWG really isn't as bad as y'all make it out to be.  Granted, I need more time with the game, but what I have experienced so far has been FUN and that is the whole point in playing video games.

Guys- Jules Torres is no longer on SWG- things have changed for the best. Let time show us this. Chapter 6 is for  the win- we are getting a profession that many loved. Don't expect the servers to be packed but things are finally coming around for vets who still play. But when you do hit lvl 40 something -- you will need to hit Kashykk. Talus will be the last stop for the legacy quest system.

Lol, it always amuses me to see all the "vets" come out of the woodwork to put in their 2c.  Yes, we know you don't like the game, but is it really THAT much of an issue that someone else does?

I started playing the game about a year ago i think it was but after 2 days i thought  what the hell is this and gave up, i recently got offered the 14 day trial so i thought hey why not lets see if things are better. I am loving it im finding the quests fun not to mention the professions and being in space,  The community is excellent i met a few people in my first 15 mins of play who were really helpful and friendly and now im in their guild and im having a blast, i will never understand why the game gets slated all the time or why the rating is so poor

Because people are narrow-minded and immature.  Nothing more to it.  Glad you are enjoying it just like I am.  It is actually a fun game again, which is all that matters!!!

    Quite the contrary.

I'm looking for something unique and innovative. Something SWG used to offer. I hate watching SWG become part of the "narrow-minded" and linear form of MMO's.( i.e. levels/loot system.)

    I'd say that's hardly narrow-minded.

Well, the game is getting better :D And in this forum i actually see more and more posts on how good SWG is getting.. I mean.. did u see any of them 5 months ago? Naaaaaw...

This game is getting better and maybe in a few months we will have a little bigger player base :D That is going to make the game better, And when people think it is getting better.. more people starts to play, that means SOE gets more money, When SOE gets money they can hire more people.. if they notice that they'r still getting some income from SWG they might actually put some of the workers to make more updates to SWG, that will result in a better game.. that makes everyone happy :D

Hehe.. im srry for the bad english but i hope u get my point :D

    Or,

People continue to leave as newer and more innovative MMO's come on the scene. After all SWG is nearly 4 years old now. I know I wouldn't want to join an MMO so far into its lifecycle. The first year of any MMO is it's formulative year where it's community truely begins. Anything after that and you're just joining someone else's community IMO.

I'd agree, but most of the old-day vets are gone, and are returning, like myself, and various friends from Warrior Nation that played in the past.  We are enjoying the new game, we are anticipating the demolition of the old houses so we are form up again.  It's exciting, lots of new changes are coming and the community is going strong again.  Right now, in Mos Eisley about 30-40 people right in from of the Space Port, last night was the same.  The population is growing, I guarantee it!

Sure, I can appreciate that you and some others do like it.

But last time I logged in I saw 1 person on my friends list that remained. I logged into a friends account who has a much larger friends list then I do and I saw maybe 2 people logged in. I just don't see that many people returning.

Secondly if the subscribtion numbers pre-CU were not as high as SOE wanted to see, what does that say about the current version? Certainly SWG hasn't surpassed pre-CU in sub numbers. As a matter of fact because of this I personally wouldn't trust SOE to maintain this current version. What happens when they don't achieve the numbers that a Star Wars MMO should have? Are they going to try another direction? Keep swinging their bat until they get a hit?

Yea like any business in it to make money, they will keep trying till they find something that sells.  Cant really fault them for that.  I know we want the game to be the way we want it but they need to do what they think will make the most money.  Yes believe it businesses try to make money.  I know that is  but that is how it works.

I am going to download and play the 14 day free trail tonight when I get home.  I have never played SWG before so I dont know about the pre CU.  I have been wanting to try this game for awhile but never did due to all the bashing this game recieved for the changes.  I have played alot of SOE games and I honestly have never had an issue with them,

EQ1 = GREATEST game I have ever played to date.  it had it all but it is old and I need something new. (5 years is a long run for me in a game)

EQ2 = not my cup of tea,

Vanguard = not what I though it would be (yes I was hoping for more out of the game.)

    Sooner or Later

Glad to hear that you're coming to give us a try.  I dout SOE will change the game again, they have what they want, now they are going to work on this and continue this build of the game to become a great game.

For your sake I hope you're right, but I did hear the same assumptions after the CU.

    I was a SWG/NGE/SOE hater for a long time.

But unlike some vets, I actually gave it a fair go again. And man, I'm glad I did.

Back in my old guild from 2003, DUNE. It's great to see lots of folks busy in guild chat.

    Star Wars rocks.

As a vet, I have never said that the NGE is a bad game. It is fun. But I can't play SWG how it is now, almost the entirety of the community I knew has up and left. The last time I logged into SWG it was a very indifferent experience for me. I didn't hate it, but I do miss the old game too much. I am not saying SWG was a revolution in the industry. It wasn't. It had its ups and downs but its communtiy was amazing back in the day. So like I said, NGE is probably great for those people who are able to enjoy it, and the newer players. But for me, and I think a lot of vets, it is more about SOE/feeling very nostalgic about the old game than anything.

Man is born, man lives, man dies, and its all vanity.

I can agree with you on this.  I played this game when it first came out.  I can say this is not the same game.  And it hits me the hardest when I realize that I can only do one thing, and not like most other MMOs do multiple things with one character.  That is the main problem, everything else (Even the Legacy quests) are good but there is really no freedom to do anything else but what is on the path before you. Most MMOs I've played do have a degree of where you can stop questing and go do something else.  I have not seen that yet. And I shouldn't have to create another character to attempt to get this lost content back. Even Auto Assault allows crafting for everyone, races, and PVP tournaments.  Even with the GCW there just seems to not be much to do unless your in the Legacy quests or Piloting missions.  Not much else is pointed out for the players at the beginning levels.

If you need to know where to level your toons ask players in game I am sure they will help you, of course there are a few lazy ones who will point you towards the legacy but that is exactly what they are lazy.
