Your girlfriend is nothing but a copycat.  Ahh crap, I had a cup of coffee today too.  Damn, and i thought iwas being original for once...sniff :-(

I don't want to write this, and you don't want to read it. But now it's too late for both of us.

I have played both DAOC and WOW, I think wow stole most of its main concepts from DAOC and they forgot many of the ones that count.

Here is a list of some concepts in both games and how they are implemented:

    1 RVR

in daoc, 3 realms alb vs hib vs mid

    in wow, hoard vs alliance

Wow doesn't have actual RvR there's no large scale battles that affect the world in the fashion and you have to be on a PVP server to even openly fight against the opposing faction in DAOC pvp is on all the servers if I remember correctly (not totally sure on that one)  (they had talked about doing rvr but it got left out permantly).  There's just some battlegrounds and faction verses faction which is completely different.

    2 battlegrounds

in daoc, everyone goes to the same bg, spaced apart by 5 lvls

in wow, you go to instanced bg's spaced apart by 10 lvls, very difficult to play if your -9 lvls from bg cap

I'm still not seeing how what wow has is related to daoc's since how their systems work and what they're made to do are completely different.  Wow's battlegrounds are strickly for rep grinding and gear.

    3 crafting

both you aquire mats and spam a button 5000 times blowing alot of money rarely making any money

This is in pretty much in any game and wow's is the easiest i've ever dealt with.

    4 instanced pve

yea, but I never liked instances

games have had this since eq1 and im pretty sure (i could be wrong) that eq1 had it before hand and honestly some pve needs to be instance it cuts out the complaining griefing of spending hours trying to get to something only to have a group that tailed you run up and polish off the mob you were hoping for.

    5 pvp raids

daoc has relic raids as well as player organised "camping"

    wow has mostly organised camping

what pvp raids? I mean their pvp server is pretty much for pvp so thats all you can do with it is organize camps. It is techincally a pve game

    6 market/auction system

both have some npc you access a market listing, but daoc doesnt have bidding

    again not really a copy

    7 mounts

daoc has customisable mounts and you can get them earlier

wow has a smaller amount of mounts available and they all look like everyone elses-no mount gear

wow's mount concept is more akin to eq1's basic some are faster thats the only difference. (well they do have flying ones thats a plus for wow i suppose)

    8 interuptable casting

daoc if your hit without some sort of counter-interupt, you cannot cast -  very annoying

wow has a cast timer bar that goes backwards if you take hits - still annoying

eq1's casting interrupts and failure rates are way more annoying.  WoW's is annoying because there's no chance of fizzel as far as I know and you can't counter interupt.  DaoC's is so much better than wow's

..there is more but my fingers are tired

there are things that didnt carry over to wow such as player housing, frontiers seige, pvp ranks (well, wow had them but took them away), pve ranks, and IMO fun.

I know wow had some doing in DAOC's decline, but I think some of the patches as well as the illegal free shards are the real culprits to blame. To tell you the truth, most of wow's playerbase consists of newbs who did not come from other mmo's. It was wow that put mmo into their vocabulary, right after frag and wall hacks.

    Now to the poll....

Wow didn't rip off DAOC honestly they were an EQ clone that was simplified and the interface majorly improved apon, course they've spread out into copying things from several other games over time which is honestly just the nature of the game business.  You see something like an interface that works really well and you copy it and make it better (or just flat out copy it).

Please Refer to Doom Cat with all conspiracies & evil corporation complaints. He'll give you the simple explination of..WE"RE ALL DOOMED!
