Short list of good games/ Industry failure illustrated

FPS: Battlefield series

RTS: Starcraft

RPG: Diablo 2

MMO: Lineage series

No other games even comes close to competing with any of these games in its genra.  Everything else is half assed at best.  I really wonder what has happened to the game development industry when the best games _today_ are the games made a decade ago.  If you have those 4 games, you have everything there is on offer.

you could double check if it's nostalgia that's keeping you to liking those games.

I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.

  • Actually, I would argue that Company of Heroes is in fact the best RTS out there. No offence to Starcraft, but COH is the very best of what RTS should be.

    Also you forgot Daikatana.

um... what about Baldur's Gate or Fallout or Planescape? How can you say Diablo II is the best rpg, when it actually is really very weak on the rp part. You only play a certain set of characters with a certain set of skills and always the same 5-8 quests in each chapter--wow. while these other games have in the 20's-30's of quests many different spells--though you usually get them all each time, the variance is nice. Diablo II was ok--nothing more. I would pick any of the games I've listed over it anyday, even Neverwinter Nights 2 , at least that game had an alignment system, several different skills and feats and prestige classes to really develop a character that you want. That's what makes an rpg and not an action game.

If only it wasn't yet another World War 2 game.

Your argument is like a two legged dog with an eating disorder...weak and unbalanced.

But it was the best, also a massive evolution of the coolness that Dawn of War offered us.

But yes,  there is a glut of WW2 games on the market. It's like turning on the history channel every time I walk into a store, every game is about WW2.

Aside from Starcraft, I'd go with wrong on all accounts.

Elder Scrolls series wins for RPGs, hands down(and I didn't even like it that much)
Battlefield series is meh. Plenty of better FPS games out there. Until Team Fortress 2 comes out, anyway.
MMOs? Well, besides the obvious answer that they all suck, I'll go with pre-CU SWG. Barring that, the character creation screen from CoX, which by itself is more fun than most MMOs.
